  1. Thanks for that. Nice to see that ROM was acknowledged. When I think of Marvel in the early 80s, I always think of this character (technically the title started in 1979, but the Spaceknight was part of the zeitgist of the 80s).
  2. You need to be careful. Many people are leery of signed copies and there's no guarantee it will sell at the price you want. As it is, ASM #129 isn't the best long-term Bronze investment as prices are dropping. First and foremost it is IH #181 and then GS-X #1. Prices hold on these two gems, so perhaps sell your copy and upgrade to one of these?
  3. While I always appreciated the ROM mythology, I believe it was hampered by the bad Al Milgrom art. Had the series been drawn by Golden or Byrne/Austin, I think it would still carry some gravitas.
  4. The character is also on the cover of Avengers #221.
  5. Nice. All you need to do now is upgrade to a copy with White pages - that's where it's at. We receive free beauty treatments, backstage access at all concerts/signings, discounted flights and a chauffeur when travelling in major cities. My GS-X #1 in 9.8 W also garnered me my trophy wife and her family's fortune. Yes...that's where it's at.
  6. Bingo. It's been happening for the last 3 years. The time to buy is now, before the next hibernation and subsequent price rise in the next "spring."
  7. Glad you liked them. Yes, it seems to be a complete original comic novelette. Thank you so much for the viewing. A refreshing change from the price wars on the Silver/Bronze threads.
  8. Definitely. I would very much welcome a Platinum forum, even if it gets very low traffic. My main motivation is that there is far too much talk about prices and values for my taste in the Gold forum: all those threads have less than zero interest for me and they are the reason I have largely stopped reading the CGC boards. On the other hand, I have a strong impression that platinum collectors generally are far more interested in history. Thus, such a forum would likely be a very convenient filter for the kind of posts that I find interesting. I couldn't have said it better myself.
  9. So there is. I might ask the Moderators about a separate Forum as it seems to be here in all but name.
  10. Yep, complete lack of common sense on this issue. Obviously no one noted the declining prices for Ms. Marvel #1, a actual CONFIRMED character. A lot of people are going to be left holding the bag...
  11. Obviously these gems are very scarce, but as the era is referenced and therefore considered to have existed, it should be worthy of some discussion. Someone who participates here may even have an original they wish to share with the group. I feel it is an interesting period as one can see the experimentation and then trends beginning to emerge that eventually culminate in the beginning of the Golden Age. Does anyone else feel the same way?
  12. If you're really clever you'll use this and some of those other issues in your signature to trade up to an even better copy.
  13. Heh. No 9.8s for MS #2 (which is very under-valued in the 9.6) and Batman #238 has to settle for 9.4.
  14. True. The Golden State copy in 2008 for $5,000. The June 2015 sale for a 9.6 with WP ($2,272) was the ONLY high-grade sale of this issue for several years. I know this because I purchased it, and had been waiting for a copy for some time. These early 70s gems are rare (and on gems, try finding a Richie Rich Gems #1 from 1974 in 9.6. Not expensive but scarce).
  15. There are some exceptions: Avengers #93 The Cat #1 Marvel Spotlight #5 Marvel Team-Up #1 try finding any of these in 9.8 with White pages.
  16. Agreed. Just look at the decline in interest on Ms. Marvel. Not only are prices dropping on #1, but going further back Marvel Super-Heroes #13 has risen and fallen in the 9.2-9.4 grades. The 9.6-9.8's didn't appear during the speculative period so they have "missed the boat" for now.
  17. Excellent perspective. Hmmmmmm..... First appearance of Wolverine or Moon Knight in 9.8 for comparable prices. Yea, I'll take Hulk 181 ever single time even if 181 had a 1000/1 print run. There you go. For Bronze, you csn't go past AM129, GS X-M1 & this gem.
  18. Whoever paid $14,550 for a 9.8 is a fool. They will never see that money back. I suspect they jumped on the character bandwagon and thought they would get in early. Investing based on possible appearances is high risk with no guarantee of return. This is especially true when considering that issues featuring characters that have (eg. Falcon) or will (Ms. Marvel, but looking more tenuous) appear in the MCU are not holding value. Even Werewolf By Night, the host title for Moon Knight, commands little attention. The 1st issue and Marvel Spotlight #2 can still be purchased for a moderate price. I believe the best investment was, is, and always will be the Silver Age. For $14,550 I can have several key SA issues.
  19. I agree completely. Quantity plays a part every time. Another good example is Fantastic Four #48 - very common in the high grades. The only two books that come to mind that constantly defy the quantity hypothesis are Incredible Hulk #181 and Giant-Size X-Men #1.
