  1. One or two of the later Terror Stories digest covers look like they were taken right off the Terror Tales or Horror Stories pulps. The one I posted is the fifth detective issue and first one that doesn't have "Saturn" in the title. I guess for some reason they kept the Vol & No the same as the last to launch it with a new title for some copyright reason Anyway, a fun set of digests and another reason to regret opening my wallet for this because now I want more
  2. Picked off some rare 50's crime digests. Manhunt was the standard for these but they're almost all pretty common. These imitators are the ones to find. Suspect and Accused have better authors but Web Detectives are collected by crazy people who drive up prices The only cover art credit I have for ya is Robert Engle did the creepy GGA cover for Suspect Vol 1 No 3 June 1956 Lasted 5 issues. This one also has cool interiors by John Giunta and others. Accused Vol 1 No 4 July 1956. The last issue. July 1959 Vol 2 No 3. I give the full date first because this confusing series has two Vol 2 No 3 issues in a row. It doesn't get much more hard boiled than "Hot Slug- Cool Dame" Killer cover art doesn't hurt either.
  3. Not a paperback but... part of a paperback digest sized series so... I was lucky enough to acquire another copy of the first printing of the 1954 1st Edition of Charles Schulz' second Peanuts collection. Only the second one I've come across in over five years of searching. After pricing the 1952 first "Peanuts" softcover at $1.00, I think they decided to go for a hardcover at $1.50 and sold very few of the hardcover at that price so went to the second and later printings in softcover for $1.00 like the first collection and all subsequent Rinehart digest sized Peanuts collections. After viewing hundreds of copies of the softcover "More Peanuts" on the web over the years, I've never seen the "R in circle" Rinehart first printing mark on a single one so I believe that the hardcover is the only "true" first printing of "More Peanuts" I'm kicking this knowledge on this little thread because I'm pretty sure that my next attempt at publishing some information will be the 1st Print ID points on these digests. The first editions/first prints are criminally misunderstood, unknown, underpriced and unavailable for such a monster property and worldwide fanbase.
  4. A couple of nice recent pickups I didn't have. Been looking for a nice copy of "The Junk Pusher" for a long time. Pyramid 126. Cover by Frank Cozzarelli Adam and Evil, another tough Berkley with one of my favorite Charles Copeland pb covers.
  5. My focus has been elsewhere lately but figured these two recent mags might be welcome over here The more I look at this Bad Girl's proportions, the more I'm convinced she must be a statue, like a six-footer in high heels and ready to feel the heat *Note added: Cover art by Norm Eastman "Real" nice Bullet in the Head cover
  6. Some Friday mail love. Lucked into a group with this JD/Drug rarity that I didn't have. This just doesn't appear often. I'm sure the print run was low from a small sleaze publisher. Then some very high grades with great cover art. 1984 is a 1st print and probably the sharpest front cover I've seen. Unfortunately there's a "bundling ding" on the back that looks like where bundling cord dented and bent the top of the back cover but It's still my new favorite copy of the several I've held on to over the years. Cover art by Alan Harmon Cover art by Robert Stanley. Yes, he did Beacon's too! Cover art by Barye Philips, "The King" of PB cover artists Uncredited but looks like Mitch Hooks maybe? Love Ozaki so I may try to carefully read this one Uncredited but a beauty. Looks like one of the unidentified True Crime mag cover artists I'm not usually stunned by sharp cornered books but this one could cut ya!
  7. I love finding receipts and/or other OO ghosts in old books! Very cool!
  8. Lou Marchetti masterpiece right there my friend. He needs a shrine somewhere. Another incredibly versatile artist!
  9. The Screaming Mimi by Fredric Brown. Stoked to find this incredible copy of Bantam 831. Always found trashed, this copy has a teeny tiny left lower corner impact but unread and glossy. Just never see this one unread. Everyone I know loves the Hound! 🥳
  10. One of the things we notice/remember when looking at zillions of vintage pbs is that these artists were working under deadline for low pay. That is not the best hand position lol! But the Art Director likely got him paid because the other "elements" were superb 😁
  11. Some nice Ace mystery doubles in the mail today. I noticed they have a "light side"... and a "dark side"...
  12. I'm an Avon guy from way back. Nice group there. I see Stahr, Randall and Johnson covers there. Plus Avon has the most colorful spines
  13. Good eye! I didn't even notice that. It's highly likely that they were on the stands at the same time so they probably did change it to avoid confusion.
  14. Some friday fun. Picked up a bunch of nice Berkleys recently. They must've had much smaller print runs than the big publishers because I have alerts on and look for them all the time but only a trickle show up. Some great art by Johnson, Nappi and Copeland here as well as some cool photo covers.
  15. how often do you see D-2? Never... Nice pickup as well as the smorgasboard above. "Strangler's Serenade" has disappeared from the marketplace. It's the only Popular Library Woolrich title I haven't found a nice copy of in 5 years of looking 😪
  16. Pretty sure this edition of "Food of Death" was the first Dunsany collection I ever bought and read, after reading something in an anthology.
  17. It's always a good day when you add a Woolrich vintage pb you didn't have to the collection. Decent copy that can still be carefully read, which I started doing yesterday
  18. I have a few others posted already but Pat didn't post these two by Walter Gibson. Like "Murder With Long Hair" posted above, these have the Atlas globe on the front cover, which makes them extra appealing to my eye, as well as Driben art on "Blonde" and creepy Lee Ayres art on "Looks"
  19. Picked up a few more "...Girls" 😊 Both Venus Books are Rudy Nappi art. This was the first copy of "Honey" I've seen for sale in years. Call Girl and Overnight Girl artists are not known although Call Girl looks a lot like Bill Randall to me.
  20. Those Atlas Digests are fantastic covers and are tough. Although the cardboard covers are thick, they crease easily because they're so stiff. That's quite a run you've rounded up Pat!
  21. Been looking for one of these since pulp prices popped a couple of years ago and kept getting shut out. Finally got lucky. One of the last of my "must have" Conan story cover Weird Tales. Everything about it is creepy, "eery", weird and beautiful to my eyes.
  22. Pat posted his copy recently and it had me realizing I've never owned a copy of one of the most famous and desired Sci Fi digests. Situation corrected It's such a cool piece in many ways. Great Ray Harryhausen monster. Classic cover, movie tie-in with actor bios in the back and even a great back cover advertising Asimovs "The End of Eternity"
