  1. Yes, they are very skinny, stapled digests. I had never seen them before. The first one I got was the Schomburg cover, when I saw it I had to win it. Then of course my OCD set in and had to find the other two. I've won 3 out of the 4 copies of any of them that I've seen for sale in the last 2 years. I lost out on a spectacular copy of #3 that someone was willing to go to the moon for (and they did) so still looking to upgrade this #3 but it ain't easy and just glad I got one. They are in Bookery's Pulp guide (complete listing) and in Warren's PB Guide (incompletely listed)
  2. Just finished this reading copy of one of Paul Whelton's Garry Dean mysteries. Yes the cover is a scene from the book - Maida Hazlitt tied up in bed and a burglar running out with her husbands briefcase. It's kind of a fun rollicking ride with lots of 40's wisecracking. Garry was a news reporter trying to stay a step ahead of the police and rival papers to figure out the scheme, plus he was fast with the ladies, so it would have made good B movie material. Kind of surprised it wasn't. I'd read another 👍
  3. An off-hand pickup. I never had a copy before so didn't appreciate how warped Howard Wandrei's cover drawing was! Spirograph on Acid Looking forward to reading this one!
  4. A little bump for finding a decent copy of The Weird Shadow Over Innsmouth. This copy has nice color and centering as well as minimal creasing. The spine is faded as usual but that gives me something to hunt for The Bart House pair... The four original 1940's mass market Lovecraft solo paperback set is complete
  5. Finally obtained a copy of the 3rd and last of the "Army Romances" series to complete my set. Bondage/whipping cover art by Warren King. King also did the cover to #2. Alex Schomburg did the cover to #1. Showing a few of Kings eerie interiors as well. I think he did all the art in this issue. Not easy pulp/mags to find!
  6. One of the few Frazetta's I didn't have yet. Some surface wear but it's flat and uncreased and one of the better raw copies I've seen recently. Price was good too so took it home.
  7. When this came up I had to have it. My final upgrade on the 1st Paperback, 1st Print of "The Hobbit". The Ballantine's file copy. My undercopy is extremely nice, but not unread publishers file copy nice!
  8. Not a comic mag but a mag. I posted her in the pulps and figure this dangerous dame might be appreciated over here ...
  9. Been away on a work trip but got back to a couple of boxes of cool books of various, mostly sleaze, interests. A couple more nice Canadian Gold Medals Pretty sharp Beacon Sci Fi with Emsh GGA A crazy Monarch title with a Robert Stanley cat fight cover A pretty rare hot rod/gang title The world is going "Crazy Town" so I had to have "Crazy Street" A classic non-Rader Midwood A sweet Maguire Gothic Midwood Rader cover on a Lez fiction pioneer Sloane Britain Midwood And another, slightly suggestive, Rader cover on a Lawrence Block Midwood classic
  10. Another Leland Gustavon Blue Book pulp interior done in crayon on window shade that I just got a mat cut for. The window shade fabric literally creates shading when they filled in backgrounds. Pretty damn clever (and cheap!) Simple but plenty dynamic and i'll take any drawing at sea
  11. Couple of real nice Handi Books in by two of my favorite noir-mystery writers, Milton K. Ozaki and Harry Whittington. Some light wear but not heavily creased like usual. I really need to up my game on the Handi Book series...
  12. Pros: Peter Driben signed cover... #1 factor imho...
  13. Sweet, I didn't know Hard Case was doing comics... With McGinnis supported to boot 👍
  14. That is some world class material you have and thanks for sharing it here BTW, book related toys are welcome Especially minty and with promo stuff!
  15. Here's another late number Beacon with great cover art and blurbs. I posted this on Facebook just because I knew a whole bunch of numb nuts would make stupid jokes that were only funny to themselves. Of course, the Facebook crowd obliged me as usual This board is truly one of the most mature places to share our treasures, not that we aren't above the occasional bathroom humor
  16. When you think you're laying down the hammer bid and it was really a wet noodle https://www.ebay.com/itm/325311187048?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=615Ols_BT_q&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=XwvppebcTg6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Seriously I should've known and bid higher in retrospect since it's the only one I've seen come up for sale in years and I already have two of the Army Romances
  17. Haha - you're original post still said the D word when I just looked but my comment just got filtered so I guess the water cooler boys found out and ran wild, prompting the censorship again
  18. Yeah, aside from the two pervy Cultists in the foreground, Johnson often painted a figure in the background peeking into the scene like this guy. This was one that we pointed out has a fantastical back cover too (not my copy, swiped for convenience). It was around this time that Popular started featuring separate back cover paintings and this one had a lot of effort. I've never seen an original painting of any Popular back cover but I'd sure love to if anyone ever gets wind of one. There is one by Johnson, I forget which, that he actually signed the back cover painting, which is rare because he hardly ever signed the front.
  19. Thanks! Seeing it all in one place is eye opening. It was a lot of work but well worth it. The livestream was fun, Ruben is great to banter with about this stuff. He knows so much about art technique.
  20. I meant to say 89's but was typing on my phone last night lol. Eyesight is the first thing to go That is a beauty of an 87 you got there tho!
  21. Steve's collection of raw Vampirella 87's alone is probably enough to make most pretenders throw in the towel YMMV
