1. I'm waiting for the Ghost Busters vs. Godzilla trilogy to come out
2. I'm willing to bet my book was purchased from one of you guys..since you seem to have all the rest
3. BTW - It is still tied with 2 other books for highest CGC graded at 9.2. No telling if there are any nicer raw copies out there, but your is still top of the census. I have the Okajima 9.2... How cool is this book; the cross current of messages on this cover are simply amazing. Captain Marvel Jr. sits in symbiotic protest with American Indians on Wall Street. The original aggrieved American minority cradled in the lap of capitalism! And they predicted Occupy Wall Street seventy years in the future! Then this book gets sold to another aggrieved minority in an internment camp no less. Irony thy name is Captain Marvel Jr. 20!! Yup!! and this is why I love the Okajima books...they represent something very different from the guys who had the money and just bought the best books
4. very cool...I love Okajima and I love your book. Thanks for sharing.
5. Thanks CROC...I'm psyched...but I see STRAW-MAN's point...it is a pretty big stamp. Now I just have to sell my house and buy the highest graded Captain A #1 ..well, may have to sell my wife too. Again, appreciate the help...never knew what the stamp was ...I actually bought it in 08 (I think) because of the stamp...figured it meant something ...oh well...at least the 9.2 means something .
6. ...kk...thanks...so it's a big old stamp on my cover that says it's the one and not the other. And this stamp can be a "blemish" for some collectors otherwise there's no real difference in value..just preference ? Some collectors want a 9.x while some want the 9.x, but with perfect wrap or WP instead of OW ? I'll take pic and try and load it in a few minutes...because I just looked up this book after I stumbled on this thread last night and had to join the GPA site to get an idea . I found mention of there possibly being no higher grade but it's only a 9.2 so unlikely and I think the post was 2004. Either way, its not an expensive book by any means, I just thought it would be cool to have something at the top of its grade for once (considering some of the collections I've seen in here ) Thanks for everyone's help...
7. Hey guys...would one of you mind explaining the difference between a crowley copy and a crowley copy/file copy? I just signed up on the GPA site to look up a couple of my books and I see 2 different types listed on this particular book. I'm guessing the file copy (mine)..was kept in house and never hit the stands . Is there a difference in value between the two types ? Thanks
8. Anthony is fantastic to work with. Communication was exceptional and the book was perfect . I bought it on a Friday night and had it in my hand on Monday morning . Oh..and did I say bullet proof packing and great prices ? Well, I did now...will definitely buy from again. No worries at all with this guy !! -Darrin
9. Got these back last month...They're pretty mainstream books but I was happy with the grades..except for my incredible hulk 103 and ASM 28 which came back ridiculously low . but can't do a "pgm" post until I figure out high def scans so leaven em off for now. ]photobucket.com ]photobucket.com ]photobucket.com ]photobucket.com
10. Awesome books !!! you're killing me too. I just stumbled across a little shop down the street with a room full of junk. Asked if he had comics...he did...1000 junk books from the 90's . He just said he did a clean out last month of an attic belonging to a guy in his 90's who died. Don't know if I believe him, but he said there was a box of about 100 comics all in dust jackets front he 30's and 40's. Said they looked like they were read once and stored . He tried to get them but the son in law showed up and took them and now they're going around town saying they have a batman 1 . I'm waiting to see if these books show up at auction assuming he wasn't exaggerating. He said he was sick he had them in his hand . I don't know if I love hearing these stories or hate hearing them
11. Ha ! Thanks...believe me I know...so I just sent 79 books out in august and when the mrs finds out how much I spent she's going to sell half . So...I have just enough room for the other half . None of the 79 out are worth much but my hulk 180 raw sold for 75.00 in auction and my superman 33 sold for 30.00 raw..cmon now ....I'm forced to slab everything ..i'll be sending in my 1.00 box of scooby doo and richie rich next ...oh...and i'm PMS'n today so sorry about the whine...I just saw a guys collection on here of AMS 1-50 all 9.6 WTF!!!! who has this kind of cash flow..you guys kill me
12. Actually, once I figured out what I wanted to use it worked out perfectly. The first day was trial and error with different sized and shaped wood (I'm not the guy you come to if you want something fixed ). But, I found those white pieces at home depot in wood and the white plastic (like pvc) . I decided I didn't want to cut anything or paint anything so I picked the plastic (also, the pvc has a nice sheen and no imperfections that you might get with a cheaper wood ) . Each row has a ledge top and bottom that secure the books . I grabbed (through more trial) the perfect maple strips that were 1/4" thick each and the same length as the white beams. found the studs in the wall and used finishing nails to secure 2 maple strips doubled up to give me 1/2" depth. When the white is placed over the maple it is about 1/2" lip on top and bottom . I grabbed a deep purple felt at a hobby shop and lined the maple strips (before securing the white to the face of it). So, the short answer would be ..yes...they slide in and out with ease and no catching or scraping because of the felt. I also decided that the pvc would prevent any damage to the slabs like scraping as I removed them. The top rows have 3 maple strips because the golden age books are a little thicker slabbed but it's imperceivable . Each row has a 1/2" lip top and bottom so the books are secured on both ends . The only challenge was keeping it all level. The whole thing ran me about 100.00 dollars. A beautiful mahogany would be sweet but all my trim in the room is white so why buy high end wood and have to paint it . Plus some of those books are barely worth the slabbing price so spending 500 on wood wasn't worth it
13. Thanks !! My wife said no way unless it looks "clean" . Took me 2 days not including the time spent yelling at my 8yr as he kept throwing his football up in the air and falling into my wall (this may have been a bad idea ) . The light thing ? is reflective sunlight an issue ? there's no direct sunlight ..just what's bouncing off the floor and walls but it clearly reaches the books....I was hoping these damaging rays just absorbed where they landed and didn't bounce throughout the house....dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not a astrophysicist . I'll have to look into this since i'd trade my kids before my books ..well, not the kids...but my wife maybe . Thanks regarding LED light...need to change bulbs in that room ps. psyched I got to use an old kirk quote with your user name "james" .
14. this was some of the other side...man I wish I knew how to navigate through a computer so it was on the same post...but without the help of Matches Malone I wouldn't even have made it this far (that's his beautiful NYX in the first pic...he let me buy it - super guy and very helpful ).
15. No idea if I did this right , but spent the weekend putting up my first comic wall ever. Not awesome stuff like I've seen in some of these posts, but they're mine so I like them ....the Mrs. has her reservations considering it's the main hallway.
