Witchblade #76 Wizard World Texas 2004
I noticed there has been few journals about rare comics. Many rare comics are the ones from years ago that are hard to find, but now days it's the limited edition comics for the Modern Age. The Witchblade #76 Wizard World Texas from 2004 was limited to 100 and I was lucky enought to score the one that was labeled #1 out of the 100 that were issued. I had it graded via CGC and it scored a 9.4, which I was happy with due to being able to even find these comics and in NM condition. I believe this is the only one that has been graded. The last couple of raw copies that sold on ebay sold for over $130.00 and $150.00. Attached a picture of the comic, but my scanner is bad and doesn't scan well. More of my rare comics to come. Thanks for reading.

Back in 2004 or around that time period, I purchased the Witchblade #75 variant New Dimension Comics Exclusive with the David Nestler cover.  There were 3 different covers, which included 2 limited edition covers.  One was the Wizard World Philly Cheesecake & Cheesesteak Gold Foil Edition limited to 500 copies and the other was the Silver Foil Edition limited to 99 copies.  Well I had purchased one of each and just recently sent them in to be graded.  I sent all 3 variants in and all came back with a CGC 9.8 grade.  The cover art is very cool and something to look at.  I love these new cases that CGC is using and maybe it is me, but the clarity through the plastic is extremely clear.  Thanks for looking,  109

    Grifter and WildC.A.T.S.
I'm a fan of Jim Lee's art and comics. I enjoyed the WildC.A.T.S. series and was big fan of Grifter. I got back my copy of Jim Lee's Sketchbook with Grifter on the cover from CGC. It's a very cool cover. I was hoping the comic was a possible 9.9, but it came back as a 9.8. Hopefully, one of these days I will get back a 9.9 or a 10.0.

Labeling Errors, which keeps you from inputting your comics in their intended slots.
I collect the modern age comics primarily Image and Top Cow comics. Many of these comics have numerous variants at times. I like variant covers, but sometimes they produce too many different ones, which just seems ridiculous. I have had numerous comics graded at CGC and I have purchased numerous CGC graded comics on ebay. When I first started collecting graded comics, I did not pay much attention to all the labeling information, because I got the comic I wanted in the grade I wanted.
When I became a member of the CGC Society, I started entering the graded comics into their intended slots. I noticed several of my comics were not accepted for their intended slot. Unfortunately, several of the comics I have purchased and few that I had graded were labeled wrong. I would image with the bronze, silver and golden age comics you probably don't have that problem do to there not being any variant during the timeframe.
Some of the labeling errors I have come across are the variants being labeled as the regular comic or even variants being labeled as the wrong variant. Some of the labeling CGC has is the labeling of a comic having 2 or more different covers, instead of labeled the others as variants. I have seen comics that have the handwritten numbers on the cover for example 5 out of 100, where some of these comics were labeled as Universal and others labeled as Qualified. Due to these many errors I have comics that cannot be placed in their intended slots. CGC has offered to fix the problems with ones I had sent in, but I guess I'm just not willing to part with them, after getting them back or to wait a lengthy period to get them back. Not to mention shipping costs. As long as I know I have the comic I wanted in the grade I wanted, I'll just keep it as is.
I also collect Wizard comics and found CGC has slots for the regular cover and the Wizard Authentic issues. The only difference I can see is that Wizard placed a hologram stick on the cover. I don't know if these should labeled different or not, but I think they should be in the same slot. Even though CGC make errors, I'm happy with their overall service they provide and I will continue to be a customer. I'm sure there are more interesting stories out there in regards to labeling errors and I'm sure we would all like to hear about it.
    Thanks for reading, 109

Is it really Qualified or is it Universal??
I recently submitted 2 very rare Tomb raider #46 Wizard World Texas Comic Con comics with the great Michael Turner cover art. This comic was limited to only 100 copies, which were all hand numbered from #1 to #100. I believe there are a few AP (Artist Proofs) out there. These comics are very collectible do to the fact they are very rare and have a beautiful piece of art by Michael Turner. Both of these comic received a CGC Qualified 9.8 grade, which at times is very difficult to receive with these type of variants. I was very happy with the comics receiving the 9.8 grade.

A few years ago, I submitted 2 other Tomb Raider #46 Wizard World Texas Comic Con comics to CGC and both received a very nice Universal 9.6 grade. Maybe someone can answer my question regarding the way CGC graders evaluate if its a Universal or Qualified grade. I realize this comic has handwritten numbering, but the way this comic is designed is just for that. Each individual comic has a space for the number to be written and they all come with a handwritten number. So should it be a Universal or Qualified grade? Does CGC have a guideline or policy which states it is a Universal or Qualified or do they leave it up to the individual grader? Let me know what you think or what you know. Thank you, 109

Tomb Raider #46 Wizard World 2004 Limited Edition of 100 with a Michael Turner Cover Art
The Tomb Raider #46 Wizard World Texas 2004 variant edition with Michael Turner cover art is a very rare modern age comic. Many collectors seek out any Michael Turner art and these comics were limited only to 100. CGC Census shows 10 out of the 100 have been graded with the highest grade at 9.6. Three were graded at 9.6 and I'm lucky enough to have one to show you. Thanks for looking and check out the attachment below. Sorry about doing this twice, but the picture did not download at first.

What's the benefit of not selling your overpriced comic?
I know the topic of overpriced CGC graded comics on eBay has been discussed on a few different occasions. Some of these sellers ask for an arm and leg for these graded comics that are not worth a quarter of what they are asking. Some of the same comics have been up for sale for past few years. Why would these sellers continue to ask for ridiculous prices for these comic? Sometimes I will find the same comic in the same grade with a much lower asking price and many times the comic isn't selling at that price. How does it benefit these sellers?

Michael Turner's Fathom 1/2 Wizard Special Edition CGC 9.8 Signature Series
Michael Turner is definitely one of my favorite artists and one of the modern age comic fans favorites. When I first started collecting comics, I started with Michael Turner's Witchblade series. I loved the tasteful art that he created and after a while, I could recognize his art no matter what it was. He is a great loss to the world and will be missed by everyone that knew him or like me, some who just enjoyed his art. I was lucky enough to get a copy of his Fathom 1/2 Wizard Special Edition CGC 9.8 Signature Series and it is one of my favorites. See attached picture below and enjoy. Thank for looking.

    I miss the WWLA Con
I can't remember the last time Wizard World Con came to the Los Angeles area, but I did attend one or two of them in the past. Looking at the Wizard World Con Schedule for 2015 and 2016 it does not appear they will be coming to the Los Angeles or southern California area. They did have the Con in Los Vegas this year and have it scheduled for next year, but still that is still a drive for the southern California collectors, who love to attend the cons. Maybe they believe there are too many cons in southern California already. But, Wizard World Con did schedule cons in Sacramento and San Jose, which is located in northern California and way too far for most southern Californians to drive. What do you think? Do you think Wizard World should bring the LA Con back?

Witchblade #95 Midtown Comics New York Comic-Con 2006 variant comic
The Witchblade #95 Midtown Comics New York Comic-Con 2006 variant comic is another fan favorite. This rare comic is limited to only 500 copies and has beautiful cover art by the great artist, Michael Turner. I had this comic CGC graded a few years ago and it was graded at 9.8, which I was very happy with. This is another very sought after Witchblade comic and is very hard to come by in graded copies. I just wanted to share. Thanks for looking.

    "Hero Initiative" Benefit Book
Hero Comics 'nn' 2014 IDW Scott Campbell " Hero Initiative" Benefit Book helps support struggling artists and writers working in the comic book industry. I love the J. Scott Campbell covers and this 2014 edition has to have one of the best covers. I try to purchase multiple books for each year they are issued to support the struggling artists and writers, plus the covers are just killer. I don't have all of them yet and I am currently still working on it. I was able to score a CGC 9.8 edition, but I'm still looking to score one that was signed by Campbell himself. Thanks for looking, 109

I recently purchased this Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Wonderland #1 CGC 9.9 graded comic with Greg Horn variant cover.  The comic is signed by Greg Horn and has a beautiful and fascinating cover.  I really don't collect the Grimm comics, but I paid $105.00 for it and will hopefully be a great investment in the future.  Just want to share.  Thanks for looking, 109

    How does CGC determine points?
I was wondering how does CGC determine how many points to give to a particular issue. I understand that older more rarer comics would receive very high points, but I collect modern age comics and I have a few graded comics that are very limited variants. These variants range from a limited edition of 100 up to 500 and they seem to receive a very low point count at even a grade of 9.8. I've seen modern comics that were hot issues and not as limited, but still may receive a high point count. Maybe someone can inform me on how it all works.

    Witchblade 100% ALL-BEEF Editions
Hello! Iv'e been reading the journal entries for a while now and it seems to me much of the talk is more towards Golden and Silver Age comics. I collect Modern Age comics and I'm a big fan of Top Cow / Image Witchblade comics. My primary collection is Witchblade, but at times it is hard to keep up due to the fact there is so many different variant editions. Some of the variant are rare and are limited from 100 to 500 copies. Jay Company produced the very limited edition Museum comics, which range usually from 25 to 50 copies. Some of my favorite variants were the Witchblade #125, #126 and #131 100% ALL-BEEF editions, which were very limited. I'm not sure how many of each they produced, but the #126 seemed to be the hardest to come by. I was able to collect all the currenty ALL-BEEF editions and I was able to get them graded. I was very happy to get them returned at a 9.8 grade. I downloaded the Witchblade #126 100% ALL-BEEF edition to share with anyone that wants to see it. It is one of my favorites. Thanks for looking.

    Do you have a Diamond?
Diamond Comic Distributors have been around since about 1982 and I believe they are the primary delivery company for most comic books to retail comic shops. I collect Witchblade comics and years ago I was able to purchase a Witchblade #1 with the Diamond Distributors emblem stamped on it. I would image these were given to retail comic shops for ordering a certain amount of Witchblade #1 comics. Witchblade is the only comic that I have ever seen with Diamond Distributors emblem stamp, but you would think there are other comics that have the same stamp and maybe there are.

I don't remember what I purchased the comic for, but I believe it was a fair price at the time. I don't see these online very often, but when I checked in the past it appeared they went for about $100 for a raw comic. It appears that most of these comics were sent to the retail comic shop signed by Michael Turner and David Wohl. It appears there are harder to find without the autographs.

I sent my Witchblade #1 Diamond Distributors to CGC for grading and it came back with a great 9.6 CGC Qualified Grade, which I was extremely happy with due to the fact they are hard to come by. I recently checked the CGC Census and found there was a total of 14 graded. The highest grade was only 2 at a Qualified 9.6 Grade. There were 6 at a 9.4 Qualified Grade and 5 at a Qualified 9.2 Grade. There was only 1 with a Universal Grade and it was at an 8.5. With so few being out there and with a grade of 9.6, I wonder what the real value would be on it.

Are Comic Book Dealer's trying to inflate comic book prices?
I search and purchase comics books off ebay all the time. I primarily collect Modern Age Independent type comics and few Marvel and DC comics. The comic books that I collect don't have the demand that Marvel and DC comics have since there is a smaller collective market, which at times makes it easier for me to purchase at a lower cost. Some of the bigger online Comic Companies which sell everything sometimes ask 10 times what there actual value of the comic is. I don't believe they sell at these outrages prices. I know some sellers do this to show off their collection and are in no rush to sell their comics, unless they get the high dollar price they are asking. But I don't understand why the bigger Comic Companies are doing this unless they are trying to set a higher price for these comics. Maybe after posting these comics for a high outrages price they place them on sale at 50% off and still hope to make a killing. Let me know what you think. Thx, 109 P.S. Check my Supergirl #1 signed by Peter David.

Graded comics with variant covers or are they really variants?
In the Modern Comic World many of the independent comics like Image / Top Cow, Dynamite and even Marvel and DC make variant covers for comics. Many of the CGC graded comics that I have come with 2 or more different covers. Some issues can come with 10 or more different covers. Many of these covers are equally distributed in count with some of them listed as an "A" or "B," etcetera covers. Realistically, I believe the first cover is the regular cover and anything after is a variant. Now CGC will list on the label that there are 2 different covers and then list the cover artist names. These comics will fall into the same slot in the registry. Is this the correct way to do this or should the secondary covers be listed as variants? Like so many of you, I like a different slot on the register, so it shows an accurate account of my collection, plus the additional CGC points that comes with it.
I guess CGC could add a slot for the different covers and break it down by "A" or "B" covers with the different cover artist name, but some of the other covers have the same artist. In other cases I've seen CGC list these equally distributed covers as variants. I realize CGC grades thousands and thousands of comics, but it doesn't seem impossible to fix this problem and have some consistency. I have a Witchblade #116 variant comic with Greg Horn cover that is not equally in count and is an actual a variant. CGC has this comic listed as one of 2 different covers. I would have never thought this comic would have fallen into this multiple cover mishap. Well I'm just frustrated with these little things. !!!

My first graded Modern Age Comics
I attended the Long Beach Comic Con this year and submitted several comics to CGC for grading. In the past I have only submitted Modern Age comics, but for the first time I submitted 2 Bronze Age comics, Incredible Hulk #181 Wolverine and Superman #233. I purchased both several years ago and I paid around $125 for the Hulk #181.
I just received both of them back from CGC and it was like being a little kid again opening presents on Christmas. The Superman #233 is really the only old Superman comic book I have. When I was a kid, I received a Superman #233 jigsaw puzzle for Christmas and from then I have always loved that cover. I still have the puzzle and it is framed. I was hoping the Superman #233 would come back with a 9.0 grade or higher. I was very happy to see that it came back with a grade of 9.2. The Hulk #181 came back with a grade of 5.0, which I'm also very happy with. It has white pages and the value coupon is still intact. Thanks for reading, 109

Michael Turner's Witchblade #25 German Splitter Chromium Edition Comic (Fathom)
German edition comics continue to pop up on eBay with many of them having different cover art. Most of the German editions that I see are limited variant editions. Some of these editions are 1 out of every 100 they produce. Some are limit to 333 or 666. I'm not sure how or why they were limited to numbers like 333 or 666. I collect the Witchblade and Tomb Raider editions and some of these comics can be pricey at times. I believe a couple of the more popular German comics are The Incredible Hulk 181 with the first full appearance with Wolverine and the Michael Turner cover of Superman / Batman #4 with Supergirl. Most of the re-makes or re-issues were produced many years after the original issue came out and were probably produced due to that particular comic being extremely popular amongst collectors. One of my favorites, which I had graded, was Michael Turner's Witchblade #25 German Splitter Chromium Edition, which was graded at a 9.8. I was very happy with this high grade and it's one of my favorites in my collection. Thanks again for looking.....

Why are there, so many 9.9 and 10 graded comics?
I have submitted numerous comics to CGC for grading and have never been lucky enough receive a 9.9 or 10 on any of my comics. I have a few 9.9 or 10's, because I purchased them from someone else who had them graded. I have noticed a rise in 9.9 and 10's in graded comics, but many of them appeared to be from the independent comics. For example Grimm Fairy Tales and related issues that are published by Zenescope and a few other publishers that I'm not too familiar with seem to be producing a higher grade comic. Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems that way.

DO YOU BUY CGC GRADED COMICS FOR THEIR REGISTRY POINTS?
I recently purchased a Wizard X-Files ½ CGC 9.8 graded comic via eBay. I was very happy to be the winning bidder and I purchased it at a very reasonable price. When I entered it into its designated CGC slot under the Wizard ½ category, I saw that it received 200 registry points, which is a lot for a modern age comic. Most of my modern age comics receive 35 registry points on the average, so it was a surprise to me to receive 200 registry points. It made me wonder if there are collectors out there that actually look at what their comic registry point value, when making a decision on what comic to bid on or to buy next. If your someone that buys comics for the registry point value first, please tells us about it and why.
