I agree these don't look like gripper holes that I've been educated about by other board members. You've done a good job pointing out defects. I would call those tears a moderate defect, so that's 8.5 tops. I suspect the other little dings will be enough to drop things to 8.0, but 8.5 is possible. I think this looks better than comics in the 7s though.
Thanks. It presents well so we will see, and it will look nice in the slab regardless of grade..

It looks a little weird because of the lighting but there is a very slight bit of color loss on the corner. It's not very noticeable in person but it's there if you focus in on it.

I would think at least a 9.0-9.2. Nice

Yeah, just the chip and what looks like light impact to the surrounding edge

7.0 cond
Thanks. would you mind elaborating a little more on the flaws? I know about the one spine tick but in my head i had this at a higher grade. I am learning and want to make good decisions on what to submit and what not to submit... thanks

Are you talking about the ink/surface itself or the little small chip on the side? You had me worried about the ink/surface so I looked up others on google images and whatever is there seems to be there on all the ones I found, The small chip is there but its pretty small so not sure if it would have a large effect on the grade or not. thanks

I see something 9.2 or higher. You're lucky to have the Pulse-Pounding PREMIERE Issu
I know I noticed that too.. lol. I even searched others on Google images to see if the overwrap is the only reason and literally every image I saw of it has at least half of the "E" cut off. They didn't think that one through at the time 🤣

9.4 at least.
Thanks for posting.
Thanks, that's what I am thinking. I don't think it would be worth grading if anything less... 2nd app of Ant Man is hardly a major key...

8.0.
If you really like this issue, I’d try finding another copy worth grading.
Ya, I figured that. I just thought it might look cool in a slab and it literally cost me $5, so I thought for $30 bucks all in it would be a nice little deal overall. Even at an 8.0, it still a pretty cheap investment but possibly not worth taking up a slot on my first 25 book submission.

>9.2. Double check the back cover, but I'm pretty sure the deviations from flatness are a light/photo thing, not real.
Thanks, ya I think its just the lighting as it's totally flat/pressed and has no stains.

Thanks for the explanation. Rust is weird. I'm glad you quit because if they detect removal you could get a Restored label, and then it doesn't matter what the grade would be
Ya, it's such a nice book minus the staple rust. In person it seems fairly minor and not very noticeable but I am glad to get some thoughts from the board on this. If I need another book to throw into my submission, I might include it and then report back so we can see how this effects a bronze/copper age grade... we will see. Either way I think I did ok for $5 bucks.😀

Ok. Did they start out entirely rusty?
No, not at all. I don't think anything I did with the q tip made any difference at all, so I quit while I was ahead...

I never got a response, but I was trying to say that your book PROBABLY has been pressed, so the staples MAY have been cleaned. Rust can occur in silly ways, so who knows really, and I don't know what criteria CGC uses to determine rust removal, but it's perhaps something to consider given how they look.
edit: caveats
Sorry, For some reason my response to your question didn't post but I bought the comic for $5 bucks at a local comic shop. I pressed it myself as I just recently bought a press and have been playing around with it for a few weeks. I didnt really touch the staples beyond poking them with a q tip and realizing that not a lot could be done that I had enough experience to do.

I should also add that any discoloration you may be seeing in the shots can be attributed to lighting as this book is pretty clean from that respect, aside from the staple rust that is.

Agreed, 8.0, maybe 8.5. I wouldn't submit this, if you are considering it.
Understood. Just so that I know, is this grade deduction estimate based solely on the rust issue or are you seeing other ussues with it? Only asking so I can learn because I don't see any other issues. This one was on the bubble for getting sent in because it would have decent value in a high grade plus I thought it would look cool in a slab if I just wanted it for my pc, but if it's not going to get over an 8.5 I think it will look cool on a regular bag and board too!! 😀

Is this your comic and if so where/when did you acquire it?
Yes, it is mine. Acquired at a local comic shop a few months back.
