  1. Let's start talking about my crack first.

I think if I take a few pics in Chicago this year and put them in my con report, we can really open up a discussion about it.

Hopefully you won't chicken out like last year.

You know what happened last year. I just don't announce everything on these boards.

I'm often amazed and befuddled the amount of highly personal stuff that some people post on the internet. Just don't get it

That was my point with deleting.I made that post late last night, didnt mean to say this thread should be deleted....meant to say the Chip Go Fund Me thread should be deleted, for Chip's sake.

Of course his name is still plasteted over the internet elsewhere but those other threads are several years old.

In any event, my job advice was solid.

Construction, as an entry level laborer ( no exp needed) takes the cake over a McDonald's or Walmart job.

His own feelings of self worth will NOT be positively effected by slinging fries at Mc D's or stocking shelves st Walmart.

A manual labor job, will require a lot of hard work on his part, which will help him mentally in terms of self respect.

The job I linked to offered benefits, as well.Any job in construction, starting out as a laborer has room for advancement to a crew foreman, if you pick the trade up and work hard...expect to put in 1-3 years of a laborer before becoming a crew foreman.

There is also comradery with the guys you work with while you're busting your a** , under the sun in the summer...and in the cold of the winter months...

.......you don't get any of that when you take a job where you're stocking shelves in a soul crushing Walmart warehouse or asking a 15 year old kid if he wants to super size his value meal for an additional 99 cents.

As far as the comment by another boardie about deletingChip's posting history on here as "hiding" the facts from a potential employer....I'd say that his posts here are really just embarrassing, and if he truly wants to get his life together, and is eager to work instead of asking others for money, you should not have issue with his taking steps in that direction.

There are a million other reasons why he shouldn't have his life spilling out over a public forum, as well.

And based on the completely inaccurate and asinine things you continue to post here, I wouldn't hire you to fluff the most syphilitic on the set of a porn shoot.

1-3 years to go from no experience to foreman of a crew? Is that how you ended up building a fire pit the size of Rhode Island?

Haha...pray tell, what is your work background?

How many years of experience do you have working construction?

    Do you have any certs?

I've got 20 years in & have ran 2-6 man crews for almost 18 years.

    ICPI & NCMA certified installer.

...oh and yeah, I have a job.

    But thanks ;)

    lol

  2. hey guys, when CAK is forumite of the year, then you'll all be looking like the fools.

CAK don't let these guys push you around, you got what it takes,

    charm

    talent

    smarts

    tenacity

    skilz

I'm betting on you to turn this around and be the man you were meant to be.

I made Harveyswick the forumite of the year, I see you being not only this years FOTY but possibly the Bill Russell and winning the next 10 years in a row.

    CAK these fools CAK

Ain't nothing but a thang for Big Poppa C.....to CAK these fools, all day long. lol

  4. Good call. I'm sure most employers check the CGC Boards before hiring.

A Google search under "Chip Cataldo" showed the Chip Go Fund me thread as the first result, top of the page.

An employer sees that, looks pretty odd so he clicks on it...said employer sees a middle aged man's tale of woe, spilled out over a comic book forum....not good for his job prospects.

Maybe not, but why take the chance?

  5. I want the three of us to be a family again. There's no hope for that, and that's not a life I want to live.
You will stand a good chance to lose visitation speaking like this. Smarten up Cataldo.

    Right.

Those comments should be deleted, as should this thread in its' entirety.

What happens if Chip goes to apply for a job and his prospective employer decides to google his name +town/state?

The prospective employer sees this thread and within 10 seconds, Chip looks like a less than desirable employee.

    Here you have it, Chip:

Apply to this job listing/company for the Laborer position.Expect to make around $15/hr, to start.

    http://myrtlebeach.craigslist.org/lab/5614822845.html

The construction trade is one of the few areas where you can make a decent living in this country without a college degree.

If you don't get hired, or while you're waiting to be hired, apply to one of the landscaping laborer jobs on this same page.

I saw 3 landscape laborer job postings without even scrolling down the page.

If you want to work, you can get started on Monday.

I will tell you that I have worked in all phases of construction, for the past 20+ years of my life and at 40, while it has taken a toll on my back,I can tell you that you can make a good living doing honest work.

To reinterate, send a PM to Arch and request that this entire thread, and any reference to your full name on this forum, be deleted.

If you want to get your life back, this is how you do it.Getting emo over a comic book forum is not how you will gain control of your life.

    Good luck to you.

  6. Hey, guys, Mile High's offering a super deal on Preacher - 40% off the entire run. And with the already bargain price of just $182 for a Fine copy of issues 2-10 (only $93 for Good!) how can you turn it down?

That is not a discount, by any stretch.I'd say they are manipulating the buyer into paying a premium for lesser demand ( read as unslabbable) copies, in one fell swoop.

That is the oldest trick in the book, when it comes to moving off lesser grade books, in one shot.

They take a set of 66 issues, none of which would really justify grading fees, and jack the price as high up as can be....and then advertise a "40% off clearance discount".

They know that they have a wide enough of a cutomer base , that they will be able to capitalize on a sucker who has money to burn and....whammo-they rake in a thousand dollars(or whatever the price is on the set) for straightup mid grade/reader copies of books that would be difficult , and would take a long amount of waiting time, to move individually.

  7. Yeah, I remember you getting $66.66 + priority shipping for a 9.8 raw Preacher 66.

My chest swells with pride, my good man....

I just checked GPA on the last few sales of Preacher 1 in 9.8....and the book has broke a g-bal, not once but 3 times, this week....with one sale at $1215.Hell yeah, son.

All were universal copies, not SS copies.

  8. I actually like Jennifer Lawrence, but agree that she was miscast for X-Men from the get-go.

That said, as amazing as she was in Winter's Bone, Silver Linings Playbook and the first two Hunger Games movie, she was by _far_ the weakest link in American Hustle.

It was almost laughable how much better Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Robert DeNiro and even (improbably) Jeremy Renner were than her in that film.

Granted - it didn't help that her character was 10-plus years older than her IRL but I was _really_ surprised how she paled compared to virtually everyone else.

Same thing - go back & watch Glengarry Glenn Ross.

Superb multi-Oscar winning cast but it's like literally everyone's an A-Lister (Al Pacino, Jonathan Pryce, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Alan Arkin, and Jack Lemmon) and then Kevin Spacey opens his mouth like a cardboard robot.

He improved lightyears between that film & The Usual Suspects but it's incredible to see how he looks like he's reading his lines off a cue card vs. literally everyone else.

Sorry, I gotta call a big meh on 99% of this post.

Kevin Spacey is great in every role that I've seen him in.

"Improved in light years since Usual Suspects"????

That is a classic 90's flick and Spacey was damn good in every respect.

Jennifer Lawrence was also great in Silver Linings Playbook, that happens to be one of my fav recent movies. She only had a supporting role in American Hustle, and for what her role consisted of, she did pretty well IMO.

Granted, I have not seen the new X-Men movie.

I don't really care to see it, either.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Lawrence and Spacey gave subpar performances, considering it isn't the sort of movie that requires any real depth and they both surely took their roles solely for the paycheck involved.

As far as this movie is concerned, all I care about is being able to sell the 9.8 raw copies of X-Men 316 (or 317, whichever is the 1st Blink) out of my $10 boxes at shows, that I never subbed to CGC before DOFP was put out....and selling a couple copies of X-Factor 5, after I get them graded at Wizard Philly. lol

    Johnny-cab-001.jpg

Well, what scathing insights you have to offer....

  9. lol For your sake, I hope you're kidding around. No one thinks that the Tron variants are actually Venom variants. I've heard these Apocalypse variants are actually Venom variants though. And you should look at Ebay again. The Cap, Spidey, Hulks, Secret Avengers, etc are all selling for $20-$60 raw.

Tron variants are 1:15....and they are *Tron*....not Venom.

I've never seen them, or heard of them, intil now.

Looks like they sell for about $15 each, raw NM-ish.

Yeah, I know that some of them are selling for $20-$60 raw, especially Moon Knight and ASM.

Most of them aren't but are definitely picking up....and I know that noone thinks the Tron variants are venom variants.I meant that Tron variants have limited appeal to them, compared to Venom variants, which I am sure you know and we both agree on.

FWIW, I found a seller offering a Spiderwoman tron variant , he had it graded as a NM/M...at $19.99 OBO, sent him a ofer on it....and I made him an offer that he accepted on some Deadpool #1 variants...he passed on the Spiderwoman tron offer I sent, I assumed he woulda taken it.I probably shoulda just paid the $20 for it, it looked like a 9.8....just needed a bit of dry cleaning on the BC at the staples and I coulda had it graded onsite at Wizard Philly in June.

He pulled the listing off eBay with the notation "item no longer available"... :roflmao:

So yeah, my thoughts are that the seller probably read the CBSI write up on them and pulled the listing to have it graded or will be relisting, at a higher price. They definitely are heating up.

  11. I checked GPA on a couple of the Tron variants. Not many sales.Only 9.8 sales I saw were for around $50-$60, couple years ago.

There is a tron Wolverine 4 CGC 9.8 at $85 with best offer, currently unsold.

I'd pay $10-$40 for unquestionable 9.8 raws, don't see any point to buying lesser copies, considering demand and grading costs.

  12. I'm not anywhere near selling these yet. Some stuff is flash in the pan. The Walking Dead is a great series with major character building. Even when someone dies, their first appearances hold value. Look at Bernie. :D

Dunno about all of that...the Governor's 1st app has signifigantly dropped in FMV.

    Sell, Mortimer....sell ;)

WD is a strong book but the inherent problem with holding WD's is that there are effloads of others out there who have the same outlook.

When the WD hoarders decide to sell, there will be a massive glut of WD's all over eBay.

A lot of them will be listed auction style, and since there will be plenty to go around, they will close low...then the BIN prices will have to be dropped.

If I had a WD 132 CGC 9.8, I would just list it now on eBay, at $75 higher than the highest sale in GPA.I'm guessing that'd be around a $200 BIN.

It likely won't sell for a while but the more copies listed at higher BIN's will effect the perceived value.Betcha it would sell in a month or two. After that 9.8 sells, rinse and repeat.

  13. Of my entire McFarlane submission, that is the book I was most proud to get a 9.8 on. Purchased raw from Bob Storms at WWChicago the year he brought all the $2 Copper books :cloud9::cloud9:

    http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=26573&GSub=1827

I bet Bob loves reading posts like this :whatev:doh!

The issue of mud in Bob's eyes aside :jokealert: ...

Congrats on snagging a raw 9.8 out of a $2 box at a show. :applause:

I effing love scoring books like this at shows.

Snagged a V For Vendetta 1 for a buck a while back, had it graded at 9.8, onsite at the last Baltimore. Can't think of any other raw books offhand, that I just subbed without pressing

    Living the dream....

It's not that I dislike Millar, I think most of his movie adaptations have been good.

Good post, some of these I didn't know about.

More books to add to my list of "will buy 9.6/9.8 raws out of $1 boxes, in case they get hot".

  15. The last ss1 9.8 sold for a little over $200

It's a completely different market. Someone paying that much for a set is a manga fiend. Most likely they would have no use for a slab. It's a perfect illustration of why you shouldn't have slab blinders on. Sometimes raw is the way to go.

my apologies Sean. I was responding to CAK who has since deleted his post. He was pumping up Suicide Squad 1 going back to $400 dollars and that "daddy needed a break"

    :hi:

I didn't delete the post, also didn't say that SS 1 9.8 was hitting $400.

There have been a few sales of blue 9.8's at $300,$325 and $350 in the past week.Since the 30th...new SS trailer or whatever promo material was put out by Warner Bros.As well as 2 copies via auction, which were the last 2 copies that sold, which didn't do so hot.

  16. Hi first post of account, likely another of Jaydam's aliases. Welcome to the Boards!

    You write like him too.

Indeed, now there are to of them!

So, we can add that to the list with Rick moma and thewallcomics?

Now your just paranoid. :insane: ...your

    So what!?

    Did I do something wrong??

Please whoever you are stop harassing me.

You are probably soft as baby mess in the street. Please don't be on here trying to "on-line" bully people.

    Not cool man. Not cool

This is a comic book message board, dunno how soft most of dese peeps be in the streetz but muthaphukas be roofles up in this jawn....roofless, mag man.Stine cold roofless.

Keep ya head up with some Geto Boyz, playa.... cuz it's all good.

  17. Starlords pappy is the new Hyperion (Marcus Milton). This should be known by now and I'm suprised it has not been spoken about yet. Doesn't matter who believs it or not nor what "forum wise guy" will try to pick this apart. I've not the time or energy to show why I know this. Realy anybody that pays aren't in to detail should know this already. This is not a "pump and dump" it is only a public announcement to the collecting community. Do what you will with this information and make some money$$$ I'm not going to name modern issues of interest. You should be able to figure it out. Issues and variants are readily available and found dirt cheap. If you have something negative to say?? Please...have a great evening ;)

:gossip: I don't think anyone cares

Oh ok..and who are you exactly?? Ummmmm nobody, whom seems self entitled to speak for everyone lol. Funny little man.

Your post is about as pump and dump as can be.

You cite no references, instead you offer this up as a "public service announcement".

1+1 reasoning informs me that you likely bought a bulk collection, you have a stack of whatever 1st book is a character that you can loosely suggest is Starlord's father.

You don't specifically state what book you are referring to, leaving potential boardies (chumps, in your estimation) to wander onto eBay and type in "1st app Hyperion Starlord's father" into a search and bam, your listings will pop up.

That sucks a bag of .

  18. Bingo !

    "New message from: stujamw1971

    Hi

I'm so sorry my autistic son got hold of my tablet and bid for this and didn't realise that he had bought it ,if possible could I cancel it please as it is not needed and he's not even old enough to read this comic

Sorry for the trouble and I would greatly appreciate it"

I do think it's a terrible thing to use disability (genuine or not as an excuse for your failings as a human being.

Funny how his son can't read, but he can click on Make Offer, then figure out a reasonable (25% in this case) discount off the price of a book is, and manage to hit the submit button....his son's reading is obviously better than the guy's lie-inventing...tool.

That is a class act, 5 star human being.

Do not accept responsibility for this tool when you cancel the transaction, mark it down as "buyer changed his mind".

  19. I bought this raw Astonishing Tales 1 off ebay recently with no COA. Can anyone confirm that this looks like a genuine Jack Kirby signature? Thanks in advance.

    IMG_0542_zpsrett2xoi.jpg

    IMG_0541_zpsf6bcl3lb.jpg

Most of the Kirby sigs I have seen were located on the first page, under the indicia. It looks legit, but you'd have to have pay a handwriting anaylist to compare it with Kirby's verified signature examples , and run a spectrum analysis(or whatever sortsa machine they use) to make sure.

Costs $40 or $45 to have one signature verified.Tt could be more, can't remember offhand... plus the cost of grading fees.I can't imagine you would get hammered on grading fees for a 7.5-ish Astonishing Tales #1 as it is probably worth about $50 in Overstreet, tops.

It would be a cool signature to get verified though and it sounds like you got a good deal on the book, to begin with.
