  1. We flew from Seattle and shipped our booth and slabs. It wasn't cheap, so thanks to everyone who picked something up
  2. Just the two wall displays plus 3 short boxes (hard to see on the table). We only brought slabs.
  3. One customer literally asked, "Your prices are really, really fair. Why?" My response: It was great meeting you @1Cool! Thank you @comicjack! Always a pleasure seeing you at cons - looking forward to seeing you again at Terry's show in Jan. We've been to the con as just attendees the past few years, but this was our first time setting up at the show as well as our first East Coast show (we're from Seattle and San Francisco). It was so much fun meeting people from the boards and Instagram and just having a ton of fun after the con, too. Thanks to all the boardies who stopped by to say hi! Here are a few shots of our booth, as well as some fun pics we took with cosplayers holding their first appearances or key issues:
  4. Added (I'm Gene). I actually have no problem being referred to by my online handle, and likewise I don't mind calling someone by theirs - most of the time it's all we've got to go by! Admittedly, I often forget people's "real" names and only know them by their online handles. Sign of the times, I guess.
  5. We'll be setting up at Baltimore for the first time! We're traveling all the way over from the Bay Area and Seattle. Super excited - this has been a favorite show for years as an attendee. Our booth #1309 will ONLY have graded books, nearly all of which are CGC. So please do stop by and introduce yourself - would love to meet more people from the boards. Here's a preview of some books we're bringing as well as our booth location. We'll be super easy to find, just right off the main aisle in a corner spot - look for the big Shortboxed banner pictured below. Looking forward to meeting some of you! My real name is Gene, btw There's a lot of pics, so if you reply to this post, please don't quote all the pics and flood the thread!
  6. I unfollow anyone that posts raffles or mystery boxes, problem solved.
  7. Scored this at Rose City Comic Con 😍 3rd-highest graded, out of 22 Universal.
  8. I don't use a scanner - I use my phone or a high-quality camera. Below are some examples of pics I've taken with my phone, an Android OnePlus 6T. The current-gen iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel have marginally better cameras than my phone. The colors on these photos have NOT been altered, the only editing done is brightening the lighting digitally to lessen shadows and obviously editing out the background to create a pure white background. I use a lightbox and a tripod. The most important factor is having good, even, studio-quality indirect lighting. You want natural white light, not yellow or warm lighting that most home lamps use. Use a board or backdrop in front of your camera so there isn't any glare or reflection. This takes a lot of experimenting and futzing around with the setup. A tripod is necessary to take still photos. Using this setup I can snap multiple photos of a slab in a few seconds. Then I swap it out for another book and repeat. Editing the photos takes a few minutes per photo. Have been experimenting with photo setups for months and have tried almost everything. It's not quite perfect but I'm getting closer. Need to perfect the angles so it shoots perfectly flat, and optimize the camera settings. So far this setup delivers the best/most accurate results with less work compared to a full blown studio setup which I don't have space for in my city apartment. I typically shoot with a Sony RX100 M3 post-and-shoot camera but these photos I took with my phone. Edit: the boards compress the photos so they look more grainy than the true, hi-res photos. Example: the small text on the labels are blurry but in reality they are super crisp. But this should still give you an idea.
  9. I bought a used Nexus 7 for super cheap, literally just to read digital comics. I think I got an older generation one for like $50 on eBay. It's the perfect size with a 7" screen and small enough to toss into a backpack. Really any 7" Android tablet will work fine. That seems to be my sweet spot for size and readability.
  10. Darn, which I saw this earlier! Seems like a good time. Any pics from the meetup?
  11. The Star Trek Hall H panel was great! I'll be giving all 3 shows a chance, including the animated series - seems hilarious. And of course getting to see and hear from Sir Patrick Stewart was awesome.
  12. I'll definitely be stopping by to say hi to you all!
  13. One more week! Best time of the year - can't wait!
  14. Here are some more slabs we're bringing. First time we've brought these out for sale. After the show, back into the vault!
  15. Here are a few slabs. About half of these we've never put up for sale before and only making available at Berkeley. More to come.
  16. I've been to both C2E2 and ECCC and I travel from out of state. I only went to one once, and the other I've returned to multiple times - ECCC. C2E2 is a great show, though. Reasons why I like ECCC: Seattle is a gorgeous city. The pacific northwest is stunning. It's right by the water, and you're surrounded by nothing but mountains and trees. If you like the outdoors, spend a couple extra days going on hikes. The convention center is right in the middle of downtown and that is a bonus. If you stay in a downtown hotel, everything is walkable. Lots to see and do in downtown Seattle - great food, bars, nightlife, touristy stuff like Pike Place and Space Needle. The Museum of Pop Culture is amazing and is worth spending an entire day there. Comics - Baltimore, Heroes, and others are better for pure comics but let's not act like there's one comic book dealer in the room - it's a massive con and there are lots of dealers. Artist Alley - ECCC has my favorite artist alley and it's in its own building/floor so it's super convenient. All the creators are in one place. The only other shows that rival it are Baltimore and Heroes. The convention center is massive but it's very well run and organized. Cons against ECCC: Seeing Seahawks fans everywhere Since the OP has been to C2E2 multiple times and never to ECCC, my recommendation is to change things up and explore a new city! Stay a couple extra days and enjoy the city as well, not just the con.
