  1. Bump! Looking like we'll have a pretty good turnout... Hope to see some local boardies there!
  2. Bump for price drops! Taking these books down on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 3:00pm PST.
  3. I recently stopped by a small shop in a small town on a road trip and thought it was interesting they only had back issues, no current issues. The owner told me they only order new comics for pull list subscribers, which I thought was interesting because they don't get stuck with non-returnable merchandise that doesn't sell. I don't think it's a stretch to say that it's very tough running a healthy, profitable comic shop these days, so the idea of only buying new comics for pull list subscribers seemed very interesting to me. Does anyone else own or know of a comic shop that does that? For comic shop owners, what percentage of comic sales are pull list subscribers vs non? I found this blog post from 2014 that a shop owner wrote showing their sales stats, and roughly 55% of comic sales (periodicals, not trades) belong to pull list subscribers, and 45% come from off-the-rack sales. Sharing this single data point, but it's a few years old and only represents a single shop, so I'm looking for other data points.
  4. Many of them probably are. I simply don't like having my stock depleted before the doors open and enjoy having all the books I brought available to con attendees when they arrive. I often sell online and I will pause any and all online sales in the weeks leading up to a con, just so I can have a nice selection of books for people when they attend the con.
  5. As a collector first, and occasional dealer second, I hate this practice. At nearly every show, all the "good stuff" is already picked clean by the time I walk through the doors when they open. And when I have set up at shows, all my good stuff is picked clean while I'm still setting up, then I see the book(s) on the dealer's wall for double my asking price, where it sits unsold, of course. As a result, now whenever I set up at shows, I DO NOT let any dealers look through my books, ask about wall books or even entertain offers. I keep the lids on the boxes and only remove them once the doors are open and attendees are let in. This may seem counter-intuitive because I'd be missing out on potential sales to other dealers, but I take a lot of pride in sourcing these books and making them available to collectors at fair prices.

  11. I sold an FF1 0.5 Universal for $1,500 in March 2018. It was $400 over last recorded sale on GPA. The same copy just sold for $3,500. I can understand a gradual increase in demand but this run up has been ridiculous.
  12. There's one guy coming who collects DC Bronze Age Horror! Definitely bring those. I'll point him to this post (he's not on the boards).
  13. We're hosting a comic book trading party in San Francisco on Sunday, August 26 from 12:00-3:00pm. This is the 3rd time we've done this event, and the last one drew 20+ people who brought a mix of everything from every age, raw and slabs. There was something for everyone. It's a few blocks away from Powell BART, or if you drive, there's a paid garage across the street. No need to register, just show up! But if you are coming, leave a comment or shoot me a DM so I can say hi. Check out some pics from the last comic swap!
  14. After two years of hunting, finally added a Mask 1 to go with my Mask 2.
