  1. I hadn't thought about it until I read ThreeSeas' post, but the roof guy cut off his hand. I wonder if that's the same hand Rick lost in the comic. If I remember right, Kirkman regrets having Rick lose that hand. Maybe this is a sort of inside joke way to keep a lost hand in the TV show without it being Rick's? hm

  2. Do we know for sure that Tyrese will be in the show? I'm guessing that Morgan will be back before the end of this season, and I sort of expect him to play the same type of character as Tyrese.

This is what Maloney said. I am still very unhappy at the mere thought of Tyrese not being in the show.

What I loved about this version in the TV show was the setup that Morgan will probably be back. Going back for the radio to warn and talk to Morgan totally is consistent with the idea that Morgan will replace Tyreese. This was mentioned waaaaaay back by Kirkman as his original plan for the comic.

I love this idea since I think the guy who played Morgan is a fantastic actor.

Ah, good to see everyone's on the ball here. I obviously haven't read the entire thread.

I'm starting to warm to more of the characters now that I've seen #3. I still need to stop asking myself who this or that character is supposed to be and trying to remember the early stories of the comic. It's getting in the way of enjoying the show for what it is.

  3. No Tyrese = Crappy tv show! :sumo:

This sucks for me. My two fav characters completely butchered by the series. Tyrese and Andrea.

I'm hoping we see Tyreese by the end of Season 1. I know there's an African American actor that was cast that isn't T-Dog. But I don't think his role was ever disclosed.

  4. Is T-Dog supposed to be Tyrese from the comics? If that's the case, that's the worst casting ever.

I sure hope this is not the case. It can't be Tyrese. Impossible.

    Tyrese wasn't a puss. :sumo:

Kirkman said they are different characters.

    Whew!

Of course, that doesn't make up for the fact that, at least based on one episode, this T-Dog character clearly isn't a fan favorite.

  5. Finally got around to watching the first two episodes. Digging some of it and will stick around for the first six episodes.

They have to make Morgan a bigger part of the show, right? I can't imagine them hiring a great actor only to use him in the opening show.

  6. It probably won't be added in the registry but I still don't like it. It does seem like they are trying to take advantage of the completest (and I am far from a completest). If they want to expose people to the comic who didn't get a chance before there are a ton of ways for a person to catch up. Compendiums, hardcover, deluxe hardcovers, tpb's, omnibuses... am I missing anything else?

I have yet to see this format work. Essential Sandman and Cerebus Bi-Weekly didn't work so well. I see this weekly Walking Dead failing after they take a few more bucks out of people's wallets. It just reeks of greed to me.

How many completists are out there do you think? Sure, Image will be happy to take their money, but I can't imagine that these few people are what's driving the idea of reprinting these issues.

  7. The idea of adding additional content is a great one. However, I don't think they're marketing these books to those of us who are already fans. I think the goal is to get non-readers heading to the shops after watching the show each week.

Then again, I've stayed spoiler free and don't know if the show will follow the same storyline as the comics. If they are similar but different enough, it might be a bad idea all together.

  8. Chew news:

John Layman gave "Chew" fans some great information to, well....swallow. The audience got to see the cover to issue #15, a trifold image based on Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" featuring every character from the series. Two of the characters on the cover will be new to readers since they're being introduced within the issue. Layman also shared that issue #27 is going to be released in between #18-19, explaining that while "it will seamlessly fit in" with the narrative arc of the book, it won't actually be collected in the trade in that order. Also? It's going to involve psychedelic frogs.

  9. I need advice. Would you send in copies of Chew #1 if you weren't 100% sure they'd come back as 9.8s? I've got two copies I'll be selling shortly, but my grading skills aren't always perfect, and the differences between a 9.6 and a 9.8 are so minute. Or would a 9.6 Chew #1 sell better than a raw copy?

I know they can prescreen and not grade them if they don't get a 9.8, but that costs money, and I don't want to "waste" the money I'd be getting if I sold my books raw in the first place.

    Thoughts?

If the only issue with pre-screen was cost, I'd pre-screen every single book I sent to CGC. At $3/book for the ones that fail the pre-screen, it's a bargain compared to paying the slabbing cost for a book that's coming back lower than you expected to be.

Alas, the real issue with a pre-screen is that it requires a 50 book submission, which is a bit out of reach for most non-dealers who send books to CGC.

Anyway ... much like Walking Dead #1, I wouldn't hesitate to slab 9.6 & above copies of Chew #1 - you never know, you might get lucky and have it come back a 9.8.

Whoa, I was totally off on my idea of prescreening. I thought the cost was more but the total needed to get it was less. doh!

  11. Is there much of a market for raw Chew issues? Anyone think that the hype will continue so the first issues will continue to grow in value, or has that time passed? Or is it pretty much to the point that only CGC 9.8 copies are selling?

I'm asking because I've got two sets of raw copies of issues 1-10 (I'd say all are NM+ or better, but if I were to inspect closely, I'm sure some would be closer to NM).

Anyway, I'm toying with the idea of selling, but also wondering if maybe I should keep 'em.

    Suggestions?

What do you want for them? :gossip:

That doesn't answer my question. Or maybe it does. hm

  13. With that said, there's a huge debate about whether buying graded 9.8s is worth the extra money for moderns or coppers and some bronze books. Supposedly, you can find 9.6 or better pretty easily for most of the books I'm interested in. At least, that's what I'm told. But I sure as hell don't know where to find them. Late Conans or John Carter of Mars or Warlord, or X-Men and ASM from my youth are supposed to be plentiful in high grade, yet I've never found one that wasn't already graded. Instead, I find 9.4 or less. So for me, I might as well pay the extra money for these "common" books just because I can't find them otherwise.
