I've had a few inquiries about the next batch of books, and honestly, I feel like this is the coolest set of books from the whole show this year. I've fallen in love these, so I picked up a couple more sets and have a little more information. These are the convention exclusive Star Wars: Forces of Destiny comics featuring all the female powerhouses in the Star Wars universe. I was told that these virgin covers are limited to 200 each. Each set was prebagged at the show, but I scanned about 20 sets and picked out what I thought were the best copies.

I've already sold a set here. I'm keeping one for myself, and I have two additional sets available. (That means that I've accounted for a 2% of the total print run!!!) I can't stress how cool these books are!

I won't be individually scanning these again, but will use my original post as a reference for what you'll be purchasing. Each individual book within each set is graded/described below.

    $125 - Set 2
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Rey (Virgin) - NM+
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Hera (Virgin) - NM+
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Ahsoka & Padme (Virgin) - NM+
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Rose & Paige (Virgin) - NM+
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Leia (Virgin) - NM+

    $100 - Set 3
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Rey (Virgin) - NM/NM+
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Hera (Virgin) - NM/NM+
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Ahsoka & Padme (Virgin) - NM+
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Rose & Paige (Virgin) - NM+
Star Wars - Forces of Destiny: Leia (Virgin) - NM

The lone Image exclusive I picked up at the show...
I'm gonna call this issue NM, as there is a slight manufacturing crease that runs horizontal at the very bottom of the book. It appears on every copy I screened, so it was either on the whole run or maybe it was just an unlucky box I pulled. I'm not sure how this would be handled by CGC if it was the whole run. Regardless, calling it NM to be on the safe side.

    $35 - Isola #1

Don't assume #3 is always fake transactions either.  In my 15 years of buying there were several times I arranged locally to pick up an item the same day I paid for it.  You can find nearby listings by sorting search results by distance.

I will add my thoughts on safely selling:

You cannot control who bids on your items so give up on putting things like "no bidders below x feedback".  it is now against ebay rules and your listings will be cancelled.

Anytime someone buys from you that you are uncertain of/do not know, take pictures of the item during and after packing the box, ALWAYS PAY FOR SIGNATURE CONFIRM and tracking.  This along with the pictures will be your only defense against false chargeback/not-received claims.

Is this against eBay rules? Can't you build right into your listing who can and cannot see your posts? Damn. Is the exclusion part of the listing template gone now?

    Buyer: heeroyuy777

First, my charge for shipping is super clear in my Ebay listings, I show it in at least 4 different areas.

I had a bunch of silver DC books up for auction and a buyer makes a great deal on a HOM #143 5.0 ($23.49 shipped to his/her door).  A week or so after delivery they contact me and begin attempting to leverage me to refund some of the shipping charge as it ended up being less than I had listed clearly in the ad.  FYI, I am in Canada and I do North American shipping for up to 4 books for 11.95.  Actual cost is usually higher and fiscally I lose money on shipping.  I told the customer that I would do a full return and full refund but they declined, knowing they had a very good deal I would guess.  After wasting two hours messaging back and forth He/She finally said that "sorry I am forced to make a complaint and leave negative feedback."

Really bothers me as I have had nothing but great feedback, I could have just gave them back a few dollars but it became a matter of principle when they called me "dishonest" in their opening message.

I don't know how convenient it is for you, but check out ChitChat for shipping. They have a shipping depot in Vancouver (Commercial area) and Richmond.

Yeah, it was a last minute auction that I came across so I didn't do a deep dive of his feedback.  Just saw that they were all positive at the time.  I'd be more upset if I was at risk of being out money, but eBay (and my credit card company) are good about these things so I didn't stress about it.  I told eBay I was more upset for them because the scammer no doubt withdrew the money from the account already and eBay had to reimburse me so it was eBay and their insurance company who were really affected.

I also came across his screen name mentioned in the thread below after I started digging around.

Shouldn't be upset for eBay. eBay does a crappy job of monitoring both shady sellers and buyers.

To hopefully clear things up a bit, the main point is that buyers hold all the power on ebay.  If you want to be successful as a seller on ebay and save a lot of headaches, it's a fact that must be recognized.  So yes, you technically did nothing wrong.  No one is arguing that you did.  Done deal.  Now realize that if the buyer doesn't like those terms, they can still buy your item and trash your feedback/seller rating.  Is it a perfect system?  No.  But it's how ebay operates.

What people here are saying is that a 9 day handling time is too long for any respectable seller to take to ship out an item (barring extenuating circumstances, which should be clearly communicated).  The fact that immediate payment was required was just salt in the wound.  So people are trying to tell you that your handling time should be reviewed and refined.  You can choose to heed that advice or ignore it.  But if handling times remain long, expect to have similar issues moving forward.

I wish I had some tips for shipping from Canada.  I'm of no help there.  :sorry:

All good. The handling time on this one book was longer than my norm, so I have learned my lesson. I will not be dong that again. Thanks for the advice and for clarifying intentions. On a happier note, eBay removed the negative feedback.

I would also like to add that sellers who say they just "don't have the time" or are "too busy with life" to ship out product in a reasonable amount of time should probably not be selling stuff IMHO.

I have time, which I calculated into my shipping settings. The buyer could have chosen not to purchase. I am a little confused as to why it's an issue. If you don't like the clearly stated terms of the sale, don't but. How hard is it to read and understand the simple listing interface on an eBay listing?

  9. 3 minutes ago, Turtle said:

I've found that ebay buyers will often buy an item they want even if they don't fully agree with (or read) the terms.  Plus, the buyers have most of the power on ebay.  If they're unhappy for whatever reason, they can do damage to your rating.

What has made my life much easier is USPS's carrier pickup service.  So long as you send 1 item via priority mail, you can schedule your carrier to pickup your package at your door/porch/mailbox.  So I can order free boxes/mailers from USPS and have them delivered to my door.  Then I can print postage via ebay so tracking is automatically uploaded to the ebay transaction.  Then I schedule a pickup and leave it on the porch on my way to work.  And when shipping slabs or smaller batches of books, the cost is pretty similar and much faster when compared to first class or economy.  Plus it comes with $50 of insurance right off the bat.

I tend to offer free shipping on my listings and just incorporate the shipping cost into the initial listing price.  This way, they can't complain about shipping cost.  Then using the method above, I get the items out in a timely manner.  So long as the tracking is uploaded within the timeframe, I'm golden.  That's 2 out of 4 categories that I get automatic 5 star ratings on.  Switching to this method has improved my seller rating and eliminated a lot of headaches.  I also have 2 young kids and work full time, so I feel you on that.

I was just looking at your post objectively and trying to understand the situation and provide feedback.

Unfortunately, I live in Canada. I wish we Canada Post offered a similar service.

Is there a reason your handling time is so high?  I'm no big seller, but I always schedule items to end when I know I have time to ship them out the next day if immediate payment is received.  Over the years, ebay buyers have become more and more impatient, so to keep a good rating, I stick with 1 day handling time for all my listings.

If you are on vacation or otherwise out of town, I'd recommend you put your listings on vacation hold or take them down.  If it's just that it takes 9 days to carve out the time to pack up an item and ship it out, perhaps step away from ebay until your schedule frees up a bit more.

You technically didn't do anything wrong.  Ebay allows you to set your own handling times and you made them clear in the listing.  But know that many buyers aren't going to have patience for that.  I'd say 3 days or less for handling time is reasonable.  More than that is not.  And maybe you're able to ship out in two days most of the time but you set the handling to 9 days to give yourself a (big) cushion.  If that's the case, I'd say suck it up, remove the safety net, and hold yourself to your new higher standard.  (thumbsu

I don't have a store, so vacation is not an option. If the buyer was uncomfortable with my handling time, he shouldn't have purchased. I simply do not have time to go to the PO every time a purchase is made.  Two young kids with lots of activities, run my own business etc., and that specific time, I had obligations that I knew would interfere.  I normally put five days handling, but consistently ship in 3.  I have had no problems with this set up.  Anyways, another reason to keep my sales moving over to the non-commission Facebook groups.

  11. this guy: larryg5.

Bought 2 books off me with extended handling time, which is clearly stated in the listing.  The extended handling time has me shipping October 13th at the latest.  Send me numerous annoying messages about shipping date etc.  I sent him a message telling him that I am shipping tomorrow, but I could cancel the order if he preferred.  He sent me this message: "Oh I understand .. you can see my feedback and know I have been doing this a long time .. quoting rules and guidelines from ebay at me means nothing to me .. Yes I want you to still ship me my items .. but I had question/concerns which I am allowed to ask .. you don't want to answer that's ok.
Seems pretty crappy though to ask for immediate payment and take 2 weeks to ship + not all your auctions have the same timelines .. inconsistent .. but hey no worries .. your stuff you do what you want but I will voice my displeasure regardless of the fine print.
Will look for my books in the next week or so .. last time we talked you said Wednesday but now maybe Thursday .. like I said .. its your world ..
    Regards"

    I cancelled his order.

  12. I have an arc (mostly in my head and notes) that I hope to turn into a comic one day.  I think Kickstarter is the way to go, but I plan to network like crazy for some time before I start hitting people up.  I would start with Facebook groups.  There is a pretty large community of independent creators helping one another. There are the Facebook groups, Creator owned and independent comics hub,, Independent Comic Coalition, and Independent Comic Takeover, for example. I am sure that there are a lot more social media watering holes for independent comic creators, but these are the ones that I have found with cursory research.

I don't think I'm seeing what you're seeing.  I'm seeing 2 Walking Dead books that sold to the same buyer with 17 feedback.  It looks like they were relisted pretty quickly.  Perhaps the buyer backed out at the end for whatever reason.  The books were relisted and didn't get any bidders.

Fill me in.  What am I missing?  (shrug)

Sorry, the books were listed a 3rd time (not sure why they have disappeared from the 15-day sales history) with that same 17 feedback buyer winning a couple and bidding and others. However, I looked at the pictures more carefully, and it seems the seller had 2 copies of all the books involved, including 2 Red Foils.

I too have had problems, but not selling but buying, so yes it happens...

I'm planning to get a IH 181 in cgc 7.5/8.0 range and some IH 181's would show up if I put the whole phrase Incredible Hulk 181 cgc 7.5 rather than just Incredible Hulk 181 cgc and listed it from lowest to highest or vice versa, :)

I had a similar problem with my Walking Dead 100 Red Foil CGC 9.8.  If I searched without the CGC 9.8, it wouldn't come up even though there were 3 or 4 others for sale on eBay,  All my issues have been with selling Walking Dead book, which is a little strange.

Have you ever had an Ebay listing that just won't show up on a search? This has happened a couple of times, once last year and once again this week.

It's like there's a glitch in the listing that won't be read by searches. It shows up fine on my side in preview and if I click on my own listings, but it never shows up on any search listings.

I've called Ebay once before and they said just cancel the original listing and start a new one - that worked the last time it happened but not on this one. Started a whole new listing and it still has a "glitch" somewhere in the listing. Can't figure it out.

    Weird.
Anyone else have a "glitchy" listing that will not show up on a search?

Yes.  I had a Walking Dead 19 CGC 9.6 that would not show up no matter what I did. I also had a Walking Dead 2 CGC 9.6 that would only show up if I searched "The Walking Dead 2 CGC 9.6"  All of those words had to be in the search including "The", which was not even in my listing.  I got so frustrated with the 19 that I traded it for a raw BA 12 and sold that on eBay instead!!!! lol

  16. When people post incredible $1 bin finds, collectors in Vancouver cannot even relate.  LCS here are way too on top of it not to get market rate plus for any book. I have pulls at two places.  Big Pete's in North Van and 8th Dimension on Main Street in Vancouver.  8th Dimension used to be RX.  RX closed and 8th Dimension was opened in the same spot by former RX employees.

If you are staying downtown, Big Pete's is easy to get to.  You can take the sea bus from Waterfront Station, which is right beside Canada Place. The sea bus crosses over to North Van and docks at Lonsdale Quay. You could grab lunch at the Quay, which is small market/restaurant area and then walk like three blocks up to Pete's.

Other things to do: Walk the trails of Stanley Park.  Rent bikes and ride around the Seawall in Stanley Park.  Visit Granville Island, which is a public market.  A fun way to get to Granville Island is to take the Aquabus from under the Burrard Street Bridge.  On Granville Island, you can also hire a small boat to take you around False Creek.

Go to Spanish Banks, which is a pretty damn nice beach.  If you go to Spanish Banks, try having dinner at the cafe/restaurant at the Jerico Sailing Club. It is called the Galley Patio and Grill.  You could combine a trip to Spanish Banks and Galley Patio and Grill with a stop at the Comic Shop on 4th.  Spanish Banks is very close to the University of British Columbia. If you wanted to add a museum visit, I highly recommend the Museum of Anthropology at UBC.  It is top notch.

Lynn Canon in North Vancouver is very nice and it has a pretty spectacular pedestrian  suspension bridge.  It is free. There is also the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver, but you have to pay for that one.  All the local mountains are also in West and North Vancouver.

A nice place for dinner is the Cactus club in English Bay.

    Enjoy Vancouver!!!
