Incredible Hulk #181 - is it *that* red-hot?
mattn792 replied to Getoutandstayout's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
$59,000 final price. Just imagine if it had the extra special CVA Super Duper Exceptional sticker. You know, the one you get if you pay up for the 10 minute eval versus the normal 5... -

You said what now?????? And 6 hours to go... -
I say if you ever find yourself dealing with that dimwit again, tell him you'll accept his offer just as soon as Cody Parkey makes another field goal in the playoffs. As a pragmatic Bears fan, I thought the end of the Eagles game was funny. But something tells me Mr. "dabearsfamily" will stroke out over a message like that.

Maybe I can break that streak with ASM 380... (BTW - I didn't even include my SS 9.8 copies of 361-363)

My road to success (Moving Update 2)

Correction...death spiral...all semantics I'm sure. BitCon's price is no longer even covering the cost to "mine" it in most, if not all, countries at the current time. You'd have been better off buying into the recent correction in the legitimate stock market. -

I've actually never looked at their pricing structure till now. Its an even bigger scam than I thought, people are actually paying that much for a 5 minute evaluation they could do themselves? CVA's profit margin would probably make the Shark Tank blush. -
Nah, he'd complain about all the asymmetrical rocks...

Moving on to... X-Men 130, SS 9.6, w/p. 1st appearance of Dazzler. Signed by artists John Romita, Jr. and Terry Austin as well as writer Chris Claremont. CLink has two SS 9.8 sales for over $900 (one Stan, one JR Jr.), and a Claremont SS 9.6 went for $350 on eBay. With three signatures on this one... $450

I think "that's just me" is what it comes down to. I'm with you in that I wouldn't bid a penny extra for a CVA sticker, but like you highlighted, how many inexperienced potential bidders might do that? Maybe I'm just bitter that the CVA people are running a what I see as useless enterprise from their kitchen table and apparently keep getting clientele. -

Haha, that's a good point. To your question, when we're talking about graded books in a vacuum, I take a "to each their own" stance. If you want to chase 10.0s at any cost, get signatures, buy only date stamped covers, low grade copies, whatever. You do you. Its when CVA gets introduced into the equation that I get wired for sound, largely because in my opinion they're a total scam and shouldn't even exist. Every comic collector already has their own built in CVA (i.e. their eyes) which they should be using to judge a potential purchase. There's zero reason to pay up for a certain book just because it has an extra sticker on it that would probably turn up on a bowl of chili if someone were to submit one to CVA. -
@Convention dude94 - I remember this book from another thread, and if memory serves you severely overpaid for it back then. Maybe someone desperate for a Stan signature with an itchy mouse finger will give you $500 on eBay, solely because that would look like competitive pricing compared to what a number of other sellers are asking for on other SS copies of #87 signed by Stan. I've had some success selling Stan Lee signed books at a premium since his passing, so it can be done, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Hey, for all we know there could have been 25 ASM #361s in that grab bag! The listing said so!

And I just got licensed to sell real estate on the Moon. Get you some beachfront property at the Sea of Tranquility before it all dries up! Heck, once @BITCOINSWAMI gets his billions from CGC, he should buy the whole darn thing from me.
