  1. Thank goodness! This thread needed some levity...
  2. The sensationalism is getting out of hand. We're comparing action comics #1 to AF15 now? There are 67 AC1's on the census...there are 2745 AF15's (US edition) and counting. Rarity of the AC1 is in a different league...yea yea, I know...AF15 demand is in a league of its own as well, but rarity is much more static than demand.
  3. Just watched the latest American Pickers on the History Channel. They found their second AF15 "in the wild"...killer copy. Guy wanted $10k, they called their appraiser and he valued it at $40k-50k. He paid $1600 for it 30yrs ago...the look on his face was priceless.
  4. Thanks guys. It's an odd eBay listing. Guy with low volume good feedback (says 100% but I see a negative review) without history of comic books (multiple shoe sales though). He's advertising it as 9.0, but with a buy it now at 7.0(ish) prices. I've got a couple questions into him (most notably the back scan, loose page?), but don't think I'm going to gamble on this one... If someone here pops on it let me know how it turns out. I'm curious... C_
  5. Interesting. Does the census really justify/support FF48's lower price compared to the others, considering its importance? I always read how common they are, especially in mid-to-lower grades... C_
  6. Look on the bright side. At least this phenomenon results in subject examples being more affordable and available to folks that appreciate them....
  7. I also read Stan Lee's wife passed a couple days ago. Not to be morbid...
  8. Apologies if this belongs in the WTB thread, but if anyone is interested in pulling some cash out but still staying in the club...I'm interested in upgrading if the deal is right. My book can be found on page 69, well presenting CGC blue label 8.0 WP. I'd be happy to get into a 9.2 WP, and really like the idea of a signed blue label...but I'm open to conversations for anything in that ballpark. I have a TMNT #3 CGC 9.6 OW/W & TMNT #4 CGC 9.4 OW/W that I'd be willing to include as a substitution for cash. PM me only. I don't want to highjack this thread.
  9. Thanks for taking the time to express your positive experience with our transaction!
  10. Finding books with a high floor and high ceiling relative to purchase price, that you personally enjoy, and within your budget is easier said than done (for me anyways). Almost everything's future potential has already been priced in to some degree. I for one am more comfortable as a buy and hold guy. I'll admit I've tried some quick(ish) flips (still years for me) to help fund my long-term buys but am not very good at it. Seems no matter how quick I am, the pros (aka you guys) are one step ahead...
  11. Am I the only one who thinks this book is undervalued? Or am I blinded by nostalgia? Update: Apologies, I was on my phone and didn't see the hundreds of pages of traffic on this thread. Apparently this conversation is already in the works. Disregard...
  12. In my opinion AF15 is in a textbook bubble. Yes, in a free market price is determined by the correlation between supply and demand. However, demand is being artificially inflated by greed (speculation/flippers), and the "if I don't buy now I'll never be able to" mentality. The sense of urgency to buy, the hype, and the sky rocketing prices, coupled with no REAL change to any of the variables, are all indicators. One of my favorite quotes is from Warren Buffett: "Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful."
  13. Sniped this one. Overpaid but, I like what I like...and the pedigree is an interesting bonus. The 9.6 went for crazy money.
