Sold, thanks, Tomo:)
That's an awesome cover. I usually don't like detached covers, but I'll make an exception for that one.

Nice pick, tomo! I thank you for taking away the temptation!
No problem, happy to help!
Now, I just need to temper my enthusiasm so I can still hope to have some funds left for the early ones.

DC Special Series.
I'd love to have a slabbed run of this one... it's so wonky, it's great... some issues are reprints, some are all-new anthologies. Some issues are book-length standalone stories, and some connect to other ongoing DC titles. Some are digests, some are treasuries, and some are dollar giants...
There don't seem to be many people looking for these, but they're pure copper awesomeness.
That makes two of us, at least!

I've been a lot happier reader since I started the "build your own canon" philosophy. If I read it and enjoyed it, then it fit in my own version of what's canon. If it conflicts with something else, oh well...
As as for a collector, wouldn't they both be important, as at one time they were each the definitive version?

There is a lot of bad art out there, but I don't believe Tocchini's art in Low is an example of that... certainly not across the board, though there are some panels I'd point out that just don't make any sense (to me) no matter how long I stare at them. Most of the art is actually beautiful, but often abstract and softened, an effect that I imagine they went for due to the setting.
I held off on reading Low for a while due to an initial opinion of Tocchini's art from a DC superhero book from a while back that was a complete mis-match for his style...Ion, maybe...or Infinity, Inc...I can't remember.
I'm glad I took another look however, as this title I find perfectly matches his style. Yeah, it can be confusing at times, but I just chalk that up to living underwater and roll with it. This is one of those books that I usually go back and thumb through after the initial read to appreciate the artwork again.

Here's an interesting one. Not exactly Silver Age, but he gets grandfathered in with his first appearance.
Metallo. First appearance in Action Comics #252 (over-shadowed by Supergirl, naturally) in May of 1959.
Second appearance in Superman #310 in April of 1977...18 years later!
Two thoughts popped up as a result...
1) What other characters out there have a decades long wait for their second appearance. Groot was the only one to come to mind so far.
2) There were so many (so, so many) one-off villains with a shtick back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I wonder how many other undiscovered gems are out there waiting to be resurrected.

I used to visit this store. As a young teenager, I would have my dad drive me from Windsor to buy some SA ASMA etc. It was the first store I remember going to that had older books worth buying.
I'll be back home to visit my folks soon. Are there any shops worth visiting in Detroit these days?
Back To The Past is one to keep an eye on, as they hold 3-4 auctions a month that usually have some good stuff. Definitely worth hitting their website or proxibid listings to see if they have anything scheduled during your visit.
They had a barn-burner of an auction that was chock full of golden and silver age Batman books at the end of the year, but I haven't seen what's on tap for March yet.

It's posts like this that make the new forum upgrade worth it. In the old days, these post would cause the font size to become subatomic in size and become unreadable.

This wasn't my LCS of choice, but I'd always swing by a couple of times a month. I vividly remember walking into their adult section to buy Preacher #1 when it came out.

I miss knowing how many replies are in a thread since I last looked at it. It's Bolded, sure, but no way to know if it's been bumped, or something exciting is going on without checking every one.
Seconded!

I agree: "waste" seems the policy of a lot of new software and internet means now.
Having such a wasteful layout pretty much hinders most of the new benefits…What are "swipes"?
