  1. I picked up a Haunt of Fear 17 from Rick over the weekend, and I couldn't be happier with every detail of the transaction. He replied very promptly to my PMs and invoiced, shipped, and supplied tracking info for my book all in the same day. 100x smoother than the majority of eBay transactions I've had over the years. I will definitely be a repeat customer. Thanks Rick!

  2. To preface, I'm newer to the PCH genre, and I'm finding that I'm having a hard time reeling in my focus with so many options peaking my interest from which to choose.  I have both books on my radar and was seeing if there was a consensus from other collectors on their preference.  I will eventually own both but just looking for opinions to help guide my decision on which one I should seek out first.  I appreciate everyone's input thus far.

  3. I can only speak for the Memphis/Mid-South area, but the shows here just aren't worth my time anymore.  Spending $40-$50 a few times a year for the opportunity to go flip through the same late-Bronze, Copper, and Modern books every time does not interest me.  If I'm walking in with a few grand in my pocket and then leaving with a few grand in my pocket, something isn't working for me.  I'm quite sure the selection at the bigger shows you all can attend/have attended blow these shows out of the water.

On the flip side, I do enjoy taking my kids to them so they can dress up and learn more about the hobby.  They love going every year, and I let them pick out whatever toys they want while we're there.  But dangit I want to see some GA/SA books! :frustrated:

I need to bite the bullet and hit up a bigger show one of these days.

  4. I won a Batman #4 (CGC 3.0 OW/W) for $950 two years ago.  I think guide was $1500 at the time.  There were a couple of other early GA Bats (#5, 15, 18) in that same auction that I was actually planning to bid on in the first place, but after winning that one I bowed out:whee:Several books in that auction sold far under guide, so I wasn't the only one who had a big win.

  5. Bourbon! :x  I have some harder-to-find bottles in my collection that I tell myself I will never open (Maybe on my boys' 21st birthdays? My daughter's wedding day?), but I do drink most of the bottles I buy.

I guess there's a bit of a similarity to my comic collection:  I have some books I will never open (CGC slabbed books), but the vast majority of my collection I can crack open and enjoy after a long day at work :tink:

I wouldn't recommend your box at all, or any box.

Personally I use magazine holders on shelves. Keeps them from stress, and makes em very easy to organize each title.

Very cool for display, but what do you do in the event of a fire? :baiting: (I'm actually a glass-half-full type of guy, believe it or not.)

They already have multiple options. I don't know of any stores that have separate rooms for different publishers, which is the actual closest equivalent to what you're asking.

Well, I'm glad you understand that. :nyah:

Realistically, the marketplace forums are already too fragmented and I doubt anybody with the power to do so is in any hurry to change that for the worse. Especially right now with so much work to do because of the software change.

I guess my LCS has spoiled me:x.  You all make very valid arguments, so I can see from the sellers' side how it could be quite a hassle to separate books in that fashion.  I've only sold books on occasion, so I will defer to the experts in this case.

I'm sure you can gather from my username the titles that I collect.  My older son is a Hulk fan, so I had no choice but to disinherit him:baiting:, but my younger son is a Bats fan like his dad.  Some would say my collection is limited in scope, but I prefer the term 'focused':insane:.  I may eventually broaden my horizons (i.e., when a certain place freezes over), but I'm glad to have a place like this in the meanwhile to give me some perspective and provide sound advice on collecting (and put me in my place when necessary).  Thanks guys and gals.

As a seller, if I wan't to sell Marvel, DCs, Dells, and Harveys, I'd have to start three different sales threads? Yeah, no. Way too time consuming.

Too time consuming for who?  Your customers or you?  :jokealert:  For some perspective, imagine walking into a shop and seeing every different publisher and title jumbled together into the same long boxes.  Yeah, no.  Not an identical scenario here but close enough to illustrate my point.  Shop owners take the time to organize their books for the sake of their customers (as well as to help themselves with inventory tracking); why can't we give sellers on the boards the option to do the same?  As a customer, I think it would go over well (and no better time than now when we're all still in the process of figuring out the new boards' idiosyncrasies).  Again, it was just a suggestion.  No harm, no foul (shrug)

  9. This request is just from me being selfish more than anything.  I get irritated having to scroll through 10 pages of Fantastic Four, X-Men, and ASM books because somebody included 'Batman' in the title of their sales thread.  Again, no offense to anyone who collects any of those titles :hi: As far as the Archies, Dells, Gold Keys, and other books of the world, they could have a separate 'other/miscellaneous' listing option.

  10. Would it be possible to separate DC and Marvel books in each of the sales sub-forums?  I don't want to get into a :slapfight:but it would save those of us who have no interest in one of the publishers (cough...Marvel...cough) from scrolling through dozens of sales threads to find books that we want.  All of the DC books listed for sale would have a home of their own in each sub-forum and so would the Marvels.  There could be an additional miscellaneous option for the other publishers.  Just a thought :foryou:
