  2. Well, according to GPAnalysis, the Northland 9.2 copy sold in August 2002 for $51,900. And there are only 3 copies graded in 9.2, so that's a killer in grade, for sure. There have been 3 recorded sales of 9.0s in GPA (there are 6 in the census) : June 2002 = $23,521 Sept 2002 = $13,600 Dec 2006 = $33,378 It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Northland copy. Hard to say because there's not a lot of data to extrapolate trends. (Note: edited to reflect current bid on C-Link of $80,000+) As far as the 9.4, sky's the limit. Tough book....
  3. Yes, that's exactly what I meant by my posts above. So.... it's ok for YOU to post non-serious stuff, but nobody else? It's on now. Let the pet story postings begin!
  4. I disagree. As a seller I have no problem doing time payments or installments -- as long as it is discussed in advance of the person pulling the trigger. In fact, if I'm selling a big ticket book I'd expect people to ask about time payments. I don't want this to be a thread that makes people think that if they can't cough up the dough right away they'll end up in the public square stocks with people throwing tomatoes at them As long as it's approved up front there should no problems with paying over time. Communication is the key to any successful transaction. But even with time payments...you do expect part of the payment to be paid right away don't you ? Not necessarily. If somebody contacted me and said they were sincerely interested in a book or art but needed some time to come up with money, and they were someone with a good reputation, I wouldn't need a downpayment immediately. But again, it depends on the situation and the buyer. If somebody pulled the trigger on something and then after the fact said they couldn't pay me for a month, well that's a problem. If they pulled the trigger and tried to string me along for weeks that would be a problem (and that's what this thread is for!) But if somebody contacts me and says they can pay but they need time, and I say ok, then I it's all good. As long as they make payments when they say they will, I am willing to work it out to both parties' satisfaction. The bottom line is that payment circumstances can be flexible, and things like delayed payments or installments should be worked out in advance. I just don't think this thread should be a place where people try to imply that their own payment policies should be everyone's policies. If a seller only wants immediate payment, they should say so in their FS thread. I'll do the same with "Time Payments happily accepted if worked out in advance"

  6. Don't worry Divad, I won't turn your beloved personal crusade thread into a beloved pet story thread. I was only 'splaining that Fay's situation is well understood and trying to allay her fears of reprisal. She was concerned and I was trying to show empathy. And now back to your regularly scheduled witch hunt!!
  7. Hey Fay, we're all good -- as I explained in my PMs, they're only funny books and real life has to come first. I wouldn't WANT you to buy the book if you're in a bind and would have felt bad if you thought you had to put yourself between a rock and a hard place over a comic book. It should be clear that "outing" a non-paying buyer should be done as a last resort when there's clearly been a breach of trust or a flat out abuse of the . It's one thing to say you'll buy something and then blow somebody off -- that's an "outable" offense. It's another entirely to want to buy something and then have a family (or pet) crisis divert the funds away. Real life takes precedence over the purchase of a comic book, no ifs, ands, or buts. I would never hold a grudge against someobody putting their pets before their comics. We have 3 great danes have probably spent more money on their health care than our own...
  8. Oh, and the packaging....bombproof....no, I mean really, really bombproof. Took me about 15 minutes to unpack it!
  9. Kudos to Greggy for a sweet, sweet Jack Kirby Unleashed portfolio!!!
  10. Kudo's to you for the ASM's Rhino! And the freebies Glad you like 'em!!
  11. If it's green, it spends well. Thanks for paying faster than Petey can wolf down Aunt May's wheat cakes!
  12. Kudos to Rich_Henn for purchasing a nice lot of Spectres
  13. Thanks back to Pedro for closing the deal. Sorry for the shipping snafu and glad it all arrived in sweet shape!
  14. I've re-read this thread about 10 times. Every time it blows me away. And it helps to have the Flessel appreciation thread open at the same time for those of us not as intimately familiar with Flessel's work Flessel tribute Scott, that's an amazing account of an amazing day. It would be for me, like spending the day with Steve Ditko. Wow. And I bet he's got a million more stories about what working in comics was like both pre-superhero and when it all exploded. If you put a lunch together sometime let me know. I might just come out for it...
  15. Congrats Scott!!! That cover recreation is even nicer looking in person! When we went to dinner on Friday night, after Scott's day with Flessel, he was SO pumped up about it. That had to be just an incredible, incredible day!!!
  16. Kudos to Stronguy -- spot-on grading, superb unbendable packaging! Ok, well, HE could bend it, but not anybody else.
  17. Kudos to the following folks for fast payment and general good karma: TheWatcher Flee-Marquette Pirate Rich_Henn Old Man Chromium thirdgreenham comcasthawk JonJesper
  18. Thanks Andy -- I'm all about reader copies...
  19. I always loved the Star Spangled War dinosaur covers. Just picked up these low-grade readers, they may be beat up but they're fun to read! I especially like 102 -- robots AND dinosaurs!!!
  20. It matters to some people, and I don't begrudge them that, but it's not mattered to me. I've passed the 1,000 milestones a few times and it never occurred to me to start a post celebrating my post count or calling attention to it. Usually what happens is I'll go to read something and notice that I just passed a 1,000 anniversary. Oh well. I'd rather be engaged in posts or conversations rather than monitor how many posts I've made or are going to make. I think early on it was en vogue for people to start a thread for a major milestone number of posts and use it say something profound about the boards, what the community has meant to them, and what they've learned from their participation here. At some point it seemed to devolve into a contest to see who could have the biggest post count and now you see people patting themselves on the back for posting 1,000 times. Oh, Hooray . Unfortunately, quantity too many times has taken precedence over quality. I'd rather have people post less and say something meaningful rather than post constantly while saying or contributing nothing.
