Well. Still 3 weeks left until the HA. Ms Marvel #19 is already at $15.6k. I said $25-30k. I could even be low. This is getting high quickly. But, dang!, it is a pretty one!!! Ms Marvel #4 is at $10.8k. I said (a big range here...) $18-21.6k. I might have underestimated these pieces. I guess it could be a situation where there is a very small supply of these first run covers, so they could be tough pieces to score. Only 23 of these bad boys out there for us to scrap over... My sweet spot is the X-titles from 1987-1992. I think it is the same for a lot of people. And I think that a lot of dealers/collectors realized that the stuff was too cheap and would would be worth far more when that generation started getting comfortable financially. Allen

The best cover by far is the #18. Cockrum is the superior artist. The book is a key issue and the cover is a “classic” (via Overstreet). No one cares about the vellum anymore. 10 years ago, the vellum would have made a huge difference. Not now. I have seen too many pieces sell for top dollar that were vellum. I can’t remember the last time that a piece of art sold cheaply because of vellum. A Cockrum Ms Marvel panel page is $3-3.5k now. I say that equals $35k on this cover. Could go higher. The next best cover is the #19. JRJR is the second best artist here. The cover has Capt Marvel as well as Ms Marvel. It is the next best image. Again, a quality Ms Marvel page is $2-2.5k. $25k. The least desirable is the Hannigan. Anyone who says that Hannigan is a more desirable artist than Cockrum either has a personal vestment or is trying to mislead you. There Is no decent Ms Marvel page under $1500. I say $15-18k on this one. i am normally low in my estimations. I hardly ever win any covers. And I always bid what I think is FMV. So, expect these prices plus maybe 20% for the auction burst. The HA will set new records and the Comiclink cover will follow. i am one of the biggest Ms Marvel collectors out there. So, I feel like I have a very good handle on the market. Allen

I have made probably 6 or 7 deals with the Donnelly’s. Nothing was cheap. And at least a few of the deals took time. They would initially give me a price. But, then would email me back a month or so later and tell me that they needed to raise some funds. And the prices would get a little better. I would say, on average, that I got a discount of about 15% off the ask price. But, this was in a group deal involving 3-4 or more pieces. I have only once done a deal for a single piece. I got a 10% discount. But it took an all cash payment at SDCC. My advice on dealing with the Donnelly’s. Be polite. Ask for prices on multiple pieces. Pick whichever pieces that you feel are the most reasonable. Then, ask for a group price on those. Make them an offer. And wait. When/if they need the cash, they will get back with you. In my experiences, I had one piece that they allowed me to return because it had a ton of white-out that did not show up in their scan. And I had one piece that they “lost”. But, they eventually found it and agreed, eventually, to sell it to me for the original price. I will say, their prices will be at a minimum about 50% above FMV. So, expect to pay top dollar. But, they haven’t been unreasonable to deal with. For me. Personally.

Also, pretty sure that the FF Art Adams splash from this last HA was in the Feb auction? Could someone confirm that? Also, for the record, personally I don’t care if people shill their items as long as they have to pay the 19.5% or 10% or whatever the commission is, if they win it back. But i seriously doubt this person/s are paying 19.5% and immediately re-listing the item for sale in the next auction. That would defy logic. Allen

Anyone know what is going on with Heritage? Are we back into shilling again? i bid on one piece and was watching another in this last big auction. The Longshot page by Art Adams that I bid on, it had no reserve. Now it is up for auction in the next big HA. It says “Not Sold” on the piece where I bid on it. The Not Sold explanation says that it did not meet reserve. another piece that I was watching was a Conan 23 page. This one sold as well. But it is up for sale in the next big HA as well. i was only eyeballing about 20 art pieces. So for 2 of these 20 to be back up for auction, is scary as hell to me. Anyone noticed this or have any input? Thanks Allen

I just got a whole list of their recent XMen prices. If anyone wants to see them, I will post. I have done several successful deals with Steve in the past. But, these prices just elicited a “no thanks” from me... Allen

I seriously doubt that this is the new price/point for a Tec 33. My gut is that owners will hold their copies at that price level. I will. I agree wholeheartedly with all of those who have said that this was a supply/demand issue tonight. Too many copies of pre-Robin (and 1st Robin for that matter) Tecs being sold all at once. Flooded the market and overwhelmed buyers.

The offer was on my 1.8. I have a couple currently, as I am a big believer in this book. Actually, it might have been a $20k/point offer. It came via HA. Seems that I remember thinking that the $18k/point would be what I would receive. I turned it down as I still think that the book is undervalued. Kicking myself for not going higher on the Tec 27 tonight. I was the underbidder. Just not good timing for a big purchase.

IMHO, the clapping is for the buyer tonight. I bet the sellers of these books aren't very happy. Lots of bargains relative to recent sales. For instance, that Tec 33 has been hitting $16k/point consistently. And I turned down $18k/point for mine about 2 months ago. Guess that was a mistake... I was the underbidder on a couple of the big books. Just wasn't really in a buying mood. Guess that was the case for a lot of people tonight...

+1 movies effect the price of comic art where the supply is limited and the demand increases... i.e. Drax, X-23, Squirrel Girl, etc if the Cloak and Dagger tv show is any good, same thing could happen. Silver Sable is another example of a character whose comics and art have recently jumped up in price due to a movie announcement. Wonder Woman just has too much art out there. I would only expect Key issue prices to rise. And we won't ever see these available most likely. And for the vast majority of cases, sell the sizzle, not the steak. So, sell before the movie actually comes out. Most often, we are disappointed by the final product. No matter how good it is...

Congrats! And what was the level of restoration on that Tec 28 7.0?

I think this is def true for the more common books. But maybe not so much for these rarer Golden Age key superheroes, i.e. Batman and Supes. God knows these pre-Robin Tecs haven't dropped in price since the release of BvS... at any point in time.

The trimming kept me from bidding on it. And I would have bid more than what it sold for....

You are correct. I was looking at my bid. ? Although i still think $8k is low for a 7.5 white PQ book selling for $1k per point. Should have gone for over $10k. I was told it was the Voldemort holder that kept it from over $10k. Someone told me that $8k was actually a good price for that book in a Voldemort. That sale has motivated me to consider deslabbing my Voldemorts and having them CGC'ed. If I think they would "cross over" well. And that WW7 book looked like it would.

That WW 7 cbcs 7.5 was one of the books that I thought went for a "SONG"!!! these issues have been selling at $1k per point very consistently. $5.7k for a 7.5 is def not a healthy amount in my book. I was upset that I didn't have the cash to buy this one.

Still a newbie here. So, I am probably off. I just utilize what I see sell publicly and what is offered to me. ComicLink sold a 5.0 Cr/Ow SC1 for $30k in the past 6 months or so. ComicConnect had a SC 1 cgc 1.8 ow/wh sell for $12k in their last auction. They had a WW1 cgc 1.0 sell for a little over $10k. I agree that I have been seeing the higher WW1s go for $8k per point. But the lower grades have been selling for $10k per point publicly pretty consistently. But, given that you are getting $10-12k per point on the SC1 then I am feeling pretty good about my new 5.0 at $40k that I have coming my way soon. I honestly thought that I was paying 33% over FMV. ???

I think what we have happening in the market right now for AS8 is a typical "profit taking cycle". Most people bought these cheap. And they stand to make a LOT of money (esp percentage wise) on selling their AS8 at $14-15k per point. Once the profit taking has stopped (if it does, of course...), then the book will again be harder to find. And will continue to increase. Sensation 1 is not being seen because people are not willing to sell at $6k per point, which is what I have seen lately. As the price goes up to $8-10k per point, these books will start showing up as well. i bought one at $8k per point a couple of months ago. Seller didn't feel inclined at current prices. Thought $8k per point was a good sell level. And I took it. Because I think Sensation 1 should at least be selling at WW1 levels ($10k per point).

Appreciate the feedback. But, not exactly apples to apples. I heard, no proof, that with the success of the GOTG movie, CGC was flooded with copies. There were huge piles of these books in warehouses. So, supply and demand was a def factor. Market got flooded. With WW, there are roughly twice as many CGC copies of her 1st app relative to Bats and Supes. Supply is a huge factor. And you could buy 5 copies of each of her major books (SC 1, WW1 and AS8), for the value of one Tec 27. That is a huge price discrepancy STILL for one of the big 3 of D.C. Now, we have a situation where WW has outshone Batman and Superman on the big screen. We have more money in the hands of women than ever before. (In fact, a single powerful female/male could change the whole market if they decided the alter the unfair price discrepancy.) And a society that appreciates these female driven comics and their historical importance more than at any past time. maybe I am crazy (my wife says I am, quite frequently)... but for investment purposes only, I would take the 15 WW books over the single Tec 27. EVEN after the recent run-up. There is just a whole lot of potential there. Just my thoughts.

So... now that D.C. Has actually done Wonder Woman justice (how many of us REALLY expected it to be this good?!?!), what happens to valuations? historically... comics will drop once the movie finally comes out. But, rarely has a movie exceeded expectations to this degree.... Personally, I was advised to sell my early books before the movie came out (by a very knowledgeable and old-school collector). So glad that I didn't. Because I think that we might actually see a rise in valuations. I think some sellers might decide to keep their copies. Wonder Woman seems like a helluva solid investment to me, at this point. A lot more solid than Superman or Aquaman (Supes = many not great movies. Aquaman = tbd). Wonder Woman could be D.C.'s "Iron Man". She has proved so, both in BvS and the solo film.

In my early collecting days, WW1 was at the top of my list. Then, AS8. However, once I owned both of those, I had to have the SC1. And now, it is my favorite. Due to the cover and scarcity. No way that SC1 should be that far behind WW1 in valuation. If only because of how scarce it is, relatively.

Dear Mr Gator, Given the fact that many collectors seem to "poo poo" Voldemort holders, in your humble opinion, is it worth the money and trouble to have these books CGC'ed? i have always heard that you should "buy the book and not the holder". But this ideal could be on its way out. What is your opinion? (And forgive me if this has been previously discussed. I haven't found it, if so.) thanks for your time
