  1. That sux sorry to hear you have a bad taste in your mouth Art buying is supposed to be FUN !
  2. I dated a girl that found out I was into art, so she told me all about this Kinkade guy (whom I'd never heard of)...interesting...then I saw the images online, the lame hand-touched "print" marketing scheme, the glossy brochures and catalogs, and finally the many franchise stores scattered around the country. Mostly God's Country. I was -like- "wow" and couldn't believe anybody could fall for that. It was really too bad. She was not stupid, athletic and rather sexy; we parted ways soon after the person in my office is of faith as well. Kinkade made inroads in that market I guess. "Of faith", a very kind way of putting it. Sometimes I forget there is a gentle touch that can be employed This one, seemed a good catch upfront (no pun, but still there for you Bronty), but ended up she could only receive pleasure but not give it...because she wasn't certain she loved me. Seemed pretty selfish to me! What would Jesus do? sounds like she broke your heart.
  3. I don't buy that at all It got a good price and IMO a fair valuation relative to ASM 121 cover that sold recently as well. Not every swing at the plate has to be a grand slam. No way to prove a counterfactual. That said, the Romita ASM 111 did $77,675 and its just an OK cover. My guess is the artist really helped out a lot in that instance. Also, if you look over Kane results they are pretty weak as compared with Romita.
  4. I dunno. Sounds like something I'd read from somebody with a lot of color guides for sale. I don't know you, but did I nail it? I've focussed much more on buying color guides than selling them this year and have had WTB threads running here on the boards and elsewhere. My issue with color guides is Authenticity. Why cant any whack job with a xerox machine just crank them out? Is there not a whole market for these fictions on ebay? Seems owning would be an authenticating nightmare.
  5. If the ASM 98 was Romita it would have probably gone for more. The limiting factor on this piece in retrospect seems to be that it was Kane. I do believe this is the highest $ amount ever paid for any Kane. And Yes, I would take the 98 over the GL any day of the week, as well.
  6. seems the Schultz Foundation is done. was bound to happen one day.
  7. Winner of the cover did not get the color guide. Oh. Gawd. Two people actually fought over this up to $10k?? I was certain it was punishment bidding too. Nobody was as down on Color Guides when the Watchman # 1 one sold
  8. Were you sitting in the front row with shorts on? No, was in the back. Were you checking out the underground collection and mainly standing in the back? Yeah, I just wanted to come by and check out some of Howard's items to see about bidding on them and find out how it all worked on the floor and how it goes when it's only online auction like tomorrow. I remember coming to this place when it was Superior Coin and Stamps back in the 80's to buy stamps with a friend of mine. When I first came in and was standing there, I wiped my brow and then realized that that could cause a bid on my unintentional part and tried to refrain from doing that. But not long after I got there, a guy standing next to me was bidding on a piece and bid $18k I think, someone elsewhere bid $19k and the woman asked if he wanted to go to $20k (not really sure of the exact amounts) and he gave her the cut throat sign and won with a cut bid. He turned to me and said, he was telling her he didn't want to go higher not to give a cut bid. I didn't know if he was joking or if that was a very expensive mistake. Good experience for me to learn what not to do. keep your hands in ur pockets
  9. yes. they really do need to be together. display would look sweeeeeeeeet.
  10. 59 is twice up, I believe. No its just at the start of the change over to standard size. Listed in auction as "The page is produced in ink over blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15"" Ok. Think you right about the interiors. The Covers are larger I believe going to 61. My bad.
  11. 59 is twice up, I believe. No its just at the start of the change over to standard size. Listed in auction as "The page is produced in ink over blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15"" Ok,..its not #39 twice up size but still considered twice up as #61 is the last twice up. Not sure of the gradations within 1 - 61. 62 is very small.
  12. yes. soft auction. think the Yellen better step in soon or.........
