For a while people were coming for him on twitter about the Black Cat variants selling out in like 2 mins.  Suggesting that he needs to find a different way to limit peoples' orders because they are all ending up in the hands of flippers and speculators. And Campbell was trying to be apologetic and saying he loves his fans and wants his real fans to get his books.

A couple days later he posts a link to a spec site popping off about how well those same books are doing on Ebay lol

Yes, I have noticed this lately, too. He didn't even speak about his books or anything before, but now he's pumping his books a week before they are released and then every time some variants are out of stock. Same with the Arthur Adams comics he's now promoting.

I know I'm bitter because the way he handles his variants lately has left me out of the completionist faction, but I don't like that there's not really some added value now. I still love his art, but this year was the last I could get all of his books.

    Sad.

    Agreed...

Dont get me wrong I love JSC, I have over 800 of his comics (covers) but, his exclusive covers seem to be getting cookie cutter in appearance-very similar in appearance. And with the increase in run size and the Convention only issues (which really bugs me that you can't buy the full set anymore from his site) is making me rethink what use to be automatic purchases on my part.

    ...just venting, thx

Sadly I agree. It's getting pretty expensive to be a Campbell collector, not to say a completionist. Add the fee for international shipping and that they decided not to combine shipping anymore and it goes crazy... it is bad for my wallet. The con exclusives are a pain, too. I like them and would be paying resellers elevated prices.

    Sigh...

Does anyone know if it usually takes a long time for the J. Scott Campbell store to ship? I ordered on May 13 and the items have still not shipped. That is over two weeks (ten business days). I contacted customer service and they responded quickly: "We are experiencing high volume of orders. It's taking us longer than usual to fulfill all orders. We wish to apologize for the inconvenience this is causing you." This is my first purchase from this vendor and I was wondering if this was a typical experience.

No, the service used to be better. Sadly, it's really crappy now.

I was one of the first to buy and sent them a couple of emails. I sent another one last Friday, as they escalated to their manager, and the next day I got confirmation from both my orders but no reply from them, which could've saved me shipping costs.

As lately the sets are not being sold out, I will see if I continue to buy from the store... love the covers and the guy, but service is not what it used to be.

The ASM order that I received had about 0.5 cm cut off from the top (I can actually see page 1).  I emailed the website store. We've been emailing back and forth last month. After I showed them a picture and requested a replacement books, they never replied back..... anybody experiencing the same thing??

I emailed them about combined shipping as I placed my order for the X-Men covers (Gold and Blue) and the Jean Grey set. I have to pay international shipping for each separate order which is $20+ per package and it's an even bigger hit on my wallet (they do not combine shipping anymore). They supposedly put me in contact with one of the managers, but haven't heard back. The Customer Service used to be top notch, but now I'm not feeling that.

Also, my order is 191xx and have not shipped, but may be related to my email.

Ok, so they reached out to me a couple of weeks ago and asked if I would be interested in helping their online customers obtain copies of any JScottCampbell.com Con Exclusives at upcoming shows. Pricing and availability will be determined shortly.

I'd be interested in knowing the prices for international customers once they are defined. This is better than just ebaying!

Their packaging are great, I never had a problem with that. My books always arrive in NM cond or better. It's just the way they handle things that disappoints me. I've always ordered almost immediately when the product is up, but when the book is finally released I never get a shipping notifications. It is after I see everyone else gets their book that I realized it has been shipping and I always had to contact them, then they finally fullfill my order. This really annoys me, since I actually like alot of the covers from the store and am a Campbell collector myself.

I get it. It must be to some customers. I usually get notifications right the day they start shipping. This time  I have not been notified for the X-Men books yet, but, as I said, it seems the amount of orders is getting out of hand. I also don't like that they do not combine shipping and it is even more of a pain for us who buy internationally and have to pay about $20 each time a book is released.

Hope they can work on that, as I don't like to pay resellers unless necessary.

If you haven't got a shipping confirmation for blue/gold, email them. They NEVER fulfill my order for shipping up until I asked, then they start shipping mine. It's pretty annoying because I have to email them every single time to remind them that they should ship mine. They should really fix their customer service, I think this will be the last time I ordered from them I guess.

I never really had any problems and my packages arrive well internationally. I do agree that lately, maybe with the number of orders increasing, their customer service has been impacted. I used to receive a nice long reply every now and then, but now they don't usually reply.

X-Men Gold #3 is going to have a JSC variant. I don't know the ratio but DCBS is already charging 4X what the (likely same ratio as Dan Mora variant is.. whoever the hell he is) preorder price for X-Men Blue #3's variant. Dammit... I really don't wanna pony up $50 for the preorder for a variant I haven't even seen yet. But my anal retentive main-X-Men-series complete-ism is demanding I do so.

If you've seen JSC Instagram or FB, I'd say he already has shown some of the cover, including: Colossus, Storm, Old Man Logan and maybe 2 more characters. It looks nice, but $50 is a lot... again.

  9. He is indeed raising his prices and it's getting, at times, hard for [completionist] collectors like me to buy all his work.

I hate flippers, but my only option to try and make a stand is not to buy from them.

However, I think that if you don't want to buy his stuff anymore, just don't, there's no need to attack the community or the artist. He is making money from his work, which is all we want to do and I don't blame him, even if in some cases, like this Venom cover, i had to pass due to the cost.

JSC did not set the bar and he limboed under that bar with ease.

Who are these "flippers"? A lot of the early sales are from dealers who either sell online or even have brick and mortar stores.

Well if I see an exclusive from any store or even JSC store, and then suddenly pre-sales in ebay with inflated prices, I would assume they are flippers.

As for him, I'm a huge fan of his art and try to buy everything he releases, but when I simply can't afford it I don't buyt it. Easy as that.

  10. He is indeed raising his prices and it's getting, at times, hard for [completionist] collectors like me to buy all his work.

  11. Is it just me or did JSC increase their price for the signed venom 3 from $175 (pre the delay) to $200. Maybe they want a slice of the pie from the pre-sellers?

Damn! He did increase the price to $200. But now there is an option, not for collectors obviously, described as variant with "some imperfections" for $100.

Too bad he's increasing the price to an already very expensive cover.

  12. Question:

I purchased the Gamora JSC Exclusive from the JSC Store Online.

They shipped it fast, kudos to their fulfillment system!

However, the books came not damaged per se, but not in 9.8 worthy condition with obvious indentations on the spine, enough to say it's probably a 9.2 - 9.6 candidate.

I eliminate the postal delivery and packaging as the culprits since the box is nice and sturdy, a very high quality comic book mailer.

So, I'm of course assuming it was either the nature of the beast, and the print run was subject to flawed production of the books with dings, or possibly the handling on the fulfillment side where maybe it was bent in the process of the handling and packaging (which I sort of doubt since it's their business to cater to nit-picky condition queens).

    My question is...

Is that just the way the cookie crumbles and how the dice rolls?

Or, is it a reasonably inquiry to the JSC store for some sort of replacement or partial refund or some compensation?

I do realize not every book is going to be a 9.8, otherwise the 9.8 wouldn't be so coveted, but I also hear so many good things about how the JSC store delivers top quality condition books, and my 1st order here came in shy of those expectations.

I've ordered many, many times and always got my books in great condition. However, I must also say that I've never graded any of my books (but I do identify when there are folds, spine indentations or other minor details with the books).

For this Gamora cover I've heard that there are some complaints in how the books are being shipped now, so maybe you can also complain directly to their site.

I still have not received my copies, but will let you know how it goes. As I'm outside the US, maybe it'll take a month or so. =/

  13. Is the Venom 3 signed worth it at $175?
I think so. I know it's all relative to opinion, but I think the cover looks great personally. From a value/collectible perspective I think it's a good buy also. I tried tracking one down before it hit the 'bay with the markups to no avail.

Venom #3 1:100 J Scott Campbell SIGNED WITH COA LIMITED Variant pre sale

    :roflmao:

I so hope this person doesn't get one.

Same... and if he does, that he never sells it.

  14. I love the Vampirella one, I must say I like it better than the Venom cover (and I do like that one despite all the hate I'm seeing =P). However, I do hate that they have 3 different covers for the same issue. They did the same for Red Sonja #1 (which I bought) and Red Sonja #2, and they just change the image zoom or the virgin thing... that's not cool.

Still, with the issues coming the first three months of 2017, we will have a pretty active Campbell year.

I don't blame Dynamite for using variations of Red Sonja #1 cover art for the Red Sonja #0 sneak peek. They're practically giving those away so it's understandable for them to save money where they can. I expect we'll see recolored/full versions of the art used in Vampirella #0 covers in Vampirella #1, too.

lol, what do you mean 3? Red Sonja #1 had the following:

    RED SONJA #1

    Cover A: Nick Bradshaw

    Cover B: J. Scott Campbell

    Cover C: Brandon Peterson

    Cover D: Giuseppe Camuncoli

    Cover E: Cosplay Cover

    Cover F Subscription: Mel Rubi

RETAILER INCENTIVE #1: (“CVR G 10-COPY BRADSHAW B&W INCV”) For every 10 copies ordered and received, retailers will qualify to order a Nick Bradshaw “Black & White” cover at the net cost of $2.00 each.

RETAILER INCENTIVE #2: (“CVR H 20-COPY CAMUNCOLI B&W INV”) For every 20 copies ordered and received, retailers will qualify to order a Giuseppe Camuncoli “Black & White” cover at the net cost of $2.00 each.

RETAILER INCENTIVE #3: (“CVR I 30-COPY RUBI B&W INCV”) For every 30 copies ordered and received, retailers will qualify to order a Mel Rubi “Black & White” cover at the net cost of $2.00 each.

RETAILER INCENTIVE #4: (“CVR J 40-COPY PETERSON B&W INCV”) For every 40 copies ordered and received, retailers will qualify to order a Brandon Peterson “Black & White” cover at the net cost of $2.00 each.

RETAILER INCENTIVE #5: (“CVR K 50-COPY CAMPBELL VIRGIN INCV”) For every 50 copies ordered and received, retailers will qualify to order a J. Scott Campbell “Virgin” cover at the net cost of $2.00 each.

RED SONJA #1 CVR L BLANK AUTHENTIX EDITION

That makes for a total of 12 covers (1 main/regular and 11 variants).

I was just referring to the Campbell covers: regular #1, virgin #1 and zoomed #0. Same for regular #2 and virgin #2. For Vampirella I believe it applies, too: regular, virgin and zoomed. I don't really care about the others.
