  1. Its not common but definitely not unusual. I've had several with a wavy banner. I didn't even bother having them reholdered but thats certainly an option if it bothers you. When you have a book reholdered you send it in to be encapsulated again and it keeps the current grade... Unless CGC feels it needs to be regraded. I've seen a couple of cases where a book was damaged and was regraded during a reholder.
  2. Everything the OP is saying is correct but I feel its because people don't understand the grading scale. They see a PSA 10 and just assume its as good as a CSG 10 and it's not. Personally, I have begun to seek out CSG 10's knowing what they are while its still easy to get a bargain (in some cases). I prefer CSG's slabs to any of their competitors but at this point submitting to CSG is tantamount to knowingly devaluing my collection. For now I'm not getting any cards graded. I hope the market adjusts and sees the value in CSG's grading services but its not looking good. CSG's turnaround time is less than half what their services page says which means many collectors feel the same. Especially since PSA has cut their grading services to higher tiers only. Where is the overflow going? A friend of mine knows someone who works at SGC and said there has seen a huge bloom in submissions and that they've had to expand. I've thought of giving them a shot but their slabs are terrible. Can't bring myself to do it.
  3. Just got my first submission back and there are a few takeaways. First, its obvious I'm not great at assessing a card's condition, but that will come with time. I've had hundreds, if not thousands of comics graded by CGC so I'm well aware of the parent company's mantra on strict grading but I was surprised at the grades that came back for cards which have only been touched once. I think included in this discussion should the fact card manufacturers are getting sloppy. I paid a fairly high price for some 2021 Illusions NFL and half the cards were in terrible condition. I had a box of 2020 National Treasures NFL with cards that came back 7.5/8.0. If I'm paying that amount of money for such a small number of cards my expectation is that I should be able to submit those cards and get a 9.5+ every single time without fail and thats not the case. The quality control of the manufacturers directly impacts this hobby from the collectors all the way down to the grading services. Over time, collectors won't see a point in sending in a card to be graded if it's going to have a significant negative impact on value. I guarantee I never pay for a high dollar box of cards again because the value just isn't there. They're very good at marketing but it would be nice to see some of that effort slide over to manufacturing and quality control. Panini needs to step up their game.
  4. Most pressers use a Wavelength Thermo-gravitational Fluid (WTF) bladder on the bottom side of the press so the 2800 pounds of pressure do not affect the back cover.

  15. I agree. For that kind of money I would never consider buying a book with that bad of a wrap. I definitely don't think it will go for over $10k.
