  1. The ebay policy is pretty clearly 'no surcharge for PP fees,' and ebay might go back to enforcing it, or only when someone reports the listing, or some combination depending on how prevalent it becomes.

But the current policy pretty clearly has no problem with cash discount. But your point on buyer criteria is well taken. [if I adopt the policy I will omit from auction and only offer it at checkout, to avoid alienating potential bidders.]

  2. I used to offer free shipping, but you never seem to come out ahead with that customer friendly policy. In future if I list I'll go back to adding reasonable shipping costs w/combined savings etc.

I'll also probably add back the old policy of 3 per cent discount for payment w check since that's a customer friendly offer of a discount that doesn't help the seller at all.

I get why some buyers might click out feeling they aren't on an even playing field with other bidders, but I think most will appreciate the option to save a few bucks or won't care.

  3. Ten years ago when I sold comics on ebay I used the exact approach suggested by Broke as a Joke.

Exactly as he said, I gave a 3% discount for checks, and a few buyers took advantage of it (maybe ten per cent of buyers, particularly on larger amounts).

Either nobody turned me in or complained to ebay, or I was too small time for them to care (maybe 800 auction over 18 mos) but they didn't just swoop in and cancel all my auctions (as they had done in the past because I'd mentioned "esnipe" or something, I forget, I broke one of their rules and 20-40 auctions just disappeared into cyber-ether).

Re: the 3% cash discount, I happened to be a lawyer, but I thought I was just being clever, not lawyerly. ; )

  4. I think Ebay store has FVF on comics at 9%.

But w/o store I think flat FVF is 10%.

I'm not talking about the high end sales fee differences that someone mentioned earlier.

I sold a couple of comic items last week for first time in nearly 10 years, had a zero-feedback buyer that came through, money already released and package shipped. My money on other sale is being held up for 2-3 weeks, and I now know from above replies that this is in case I'm a fraud (this auction was an FF #52).

Before I found this site my plan was to pay for 1 mo store (the lower level store)and list as many time/ebay limit permitted.

I really hate ebay from when I sold 10 years ago, but OTOH they offer a service I have not found replicated better elsewhere (c-link, mycomshop, connect) they might come close here and there especially the first but EBAY still seems best outlet - although after a while here and kudos from purchases maybe I'll sell some key silver and bronze here.

The problem is to move the slower/low demand stuff I need a couple of dozen key books to gain attention of the buyers. Also at that point it makes sense to list the minor keys and #1s (as BIN for slight premium).

So maybe I'll start with selling he slow books here first, and if they move well enough I'll have no reservations setting the keys and HG at reasonable prices, reduced to reflect 5-8 per cent discount - splitting the saved ebay FEES that approximate 13%.

Bought a Amaz. Spiderman #6 here yesterday and it was such a pleasure not having to deal with Ebay stuff, even as the buyer. As the seller it would be a dream to avoid Ebay and just set a reasonable price collector to collector.

  5. Not even in the same strata as the copies you're discussing (but at least it's not a pence issue). But it matches the OP title, so jump in w my first post here to show off my 1.8 (just my opinion) of Hulk 1. Also have 2,5 & 6 in g/vg but what's to show off, it's not yet a set?

Just tongue-in-cheek about the pence of course, although as a yank I avoid them in same way as w restored books. Meant as info to our friend from across the pond. Obviously there are collectors who will desire it - a beautiful copy of the book.
