  1. Always loved ASM 2cover

Wish I could own the OA to this cover

Reckon it would be expensive though :(

I couldn't estimate what price an original Ditko Spidey cover would fetch, especially one from the first 10 issues, but it would have to be astronomical. I'm not an OA guy, but has one ever sold before from that time period?

The number 11, 15, 28, 30 are the ones I know of that sold but that was long ago when prices were cheaper

The 8 was for sale for 250k in 2004

250k and that was 12 years ago :o

Well, in fairness it never sold

That was just the sellers asking price

But I reckon its a $750k cover today maybe - if it wasnt destroyed in a fire - which it was in 2010 :(

Wow. I didn't know that. Is there an article online discussing what happened?

  2. Way back in the pre-CGC days, I bought a high grade Spidey #1 and sent it to Susan Cicconi via FedEx for a restoration check. I called Susan to make sure the book arrived safely. She told me that it hadn't arrived yet. So I called FedEx to see what was going on and they told me they were experiencing some delays.

The next day, a buddy at work who knew about the situation clipped this photo from the New York Times and passed it on to me. I don't know if my book was on this plane, but the plane's intended destination makes me think it's possible. The book somehow did make it to Susan, though a day later than scheduled. It wasn't a fun couple of days. But the book did pass the restoration check.

Always nice when your comic comes with a personal story

  3. I am one of those people that focuses solely on the ASM title and who has invested a lot of time and money to get a near-complete collection: newsstands, direct editions, variants, even the insane number of 140+ variants of ASM666. When the 1:1000 variants started to appear, I worried that eventually there would be one of these ratio-variants for ASM. Now I ask myself the question: do I want to spend such a lot of money on this book instead of a upgrade of one of my Silver Age books? And if I do, will I be able to find one? And if I find one and spend all this money, what will be next? Another relaunch with 50+ variants? A 1:2000 variant which will cost even more? And if I don't find this variant or I am not willing to pay this money, is there any reason to continue my collection or should I break it off at ASM328, ASM441, ASM700, SS31, ASM18 or ASMRYV5? Or should I stop collecting variants, get rid of all variants I have and just continue with the regulars?

I really don't understand why Marvel does this. The ratio is such that it will not gain them a lot of extra orders. On the contrary, it makes completists like me start to think whether it is better to stop collecting variants or the series altogether. That can't hardly be the intention of Marvel, can it?

I started off like you, trying to get a near complete collection with all the editions and variants, then when I saw how many variants there was for the reboot of ASM, I decided to just get the regular covers of every issue. Then, I decided to just stop at 700 because of all the reboots Marvel had started. Then the recent clone conspiracy storyline reminded me of the dumb sins past storyline and decided to stop at 500 instead, to avoid that. And now, I just stopped trying to complete a run to 500 because I wanted to downsize from having so many boxes. So if you head down this route that I took, it actually feels like a big relief trying not to get everything ASM.

I don't know if this is Marvel's intention, but it helped me save more money :D

I made it from ASM 201 to 700 with quite a few variants that I thought mattered. Then when ASM volume 3 started I tried to collect all of those variants but then I noticed that they just keep rebooting ASM back to "number one". To be honest that's when I said screw it and decided to focus on finishing up my early ASM issues with high grades.

  4. Some books I just got back, all silver age keys. I sent in 7 books for Stan lee to sign plus 4 books for Frank Miller/Janson to sign with a certified witness who then submitted my books to CGC. I also had two other books witness and submitted but my name wasn't on that invoice. The witness still hasn't paid his bill in full so CGC still had them there. I called and because I wanted to know about my books. Even though the complete bill has not been paid yet they still sent me my books, big thank you CGC.

Now a few photos. The Lee signed books are all books I bought when I was 8 or 9. All key books and golden memories.

    Enjoy my youth.

Awesome additions. Sadly I had to sell my old comics that I bought as a kid for a grail issue. I miss the reader copies though.
