  1. Mad Max: Fury Road Without CGI

The post-apocalyptic chase film, which won 6 Academy Awards, easily stood out among the rest of the 2015 offerings because it relied on thrilling practical effects over CGI.

Proving that point, the good folks at ESPORTS TV have compiled a four-minute video of CGI-free shots from Fury Road pre-production tests, raw footage, and behind-the-scene footage. Watch monster trucks soar through the air, motorcycles leaping over moving vehicles, Tom Hardy strapped to the front of car, cars crashing into each other at high-speeds, stuntmen on wires jumping from one car to the next, and lots of big, fiery explosions that would get Michael Bay pitching a tent.

I see some people were giving this movie , but dang I LOVED IT. First time i saw it i ended up watching it again like a week later. Hahah i appreciate it even more after seeing that video, I mean, there was an AMAZING stunt team and who doesn't enjoy lots of explosions? And those were REAL. Thanks for sharing the video, super cool!! :)

  2. Way too much buzz being generated for this movie to not have a sequel (or at least a couple spin offs). The movie got trashed by critics and it still pulled in good numbers. I saw it - I liked it for what it was.

I'd like a Suicide Squad: Deadshot & Harley movie.

I'd pay to see a Deadshot/Harley movie! :applause: anyways, saw SS last night and thought it was enjoyable. I've read all of the new 52 books and obviously I wasn't going into the movie expecting the books. So that held my more critical side in check.

Gonna go ahead and say it: does anyone know why they didnt use King Shark and went for Killer Croc instead? From the promo still shots I was NOT impressed by KC, but after seeing the movie I don't think the effects were too bad for him. But still, I wanted King Shark. lol

Overall, i didnt go to the movie for a "compelling plot," and felt it was worth seeing! ...but was it worth the $36 on tickets for 2 people....? That's another question all together...

  3.

Great Giger stuff in this, have to wade through all the movie stuff, but if you are a Alien fan, well you've probably already seen this.

Big Giger fan here as well, thanks for noting Dark Star, haven't seen it yet

I believe ive seen this, ill probably rewatch though. :D I love watching behind the scenes stuff. I saw online the cast of Alien came together at comic con this year, that would have been awesome to see! I'm sure YouTube can hook me up.

(Sorry to commandeer this thread for Giger/Alien talk) lol

  4. This one is a new addition, haven't watched it yet but will:

    Dark Star: H.R. Giger's World

So after watching this I can say it's definitely directed toward Giger fans. There's a certain assumption of familiarity with GIger's body of work that is built upon. One thing that becomes clear is how he had little backing for his many artistic endeavors and more or less bankrupted himself to get them done anyway. So if that's the sort of thing that interests you, you'll enjoy Dark Star as much as I did. Probably not much fun for the casual walk-on fan though.

Working on Jodorowsky's Dune now. Don't remember seeing it mentioned here by anybody. Lots of good material for the Moebius and Chis Foss fans!

(I see this post is from a while ago,) but as a Giger fan, I really enjoyed Dark Star! I loved to see his behind the scenes work on Alien. And his home--so amazing! I hope to have a sculpture garden like that someday! hm

Also, Dune! Been working on that book. I'm finding audiobooks help a lot with "books like that." If you've read it you know what I mean right?

If anyone has more recent recommendations in the dark/sci-fi dept throw 'em this way! :)

  5. I have started re-watching the original trilogy in preparation far in advance for this film. I have the 2004 Box Set Edition, where Lucas altered certain scenes to take advantage of advances in CGI.

Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope is very sharp visually. But things like the Han Solo/Jaba conversation at the Millennium Falcon's launch bay seem out-of-place and distracting (I found out later this was added in the 1997 relaunch). I think by the time I get to the third film, that is where they added Hayden Christensen as the ghost of Luke's father.

I need to pick up the unedited versions.

Do you have a VHS player? The unedited are not on DVD :sorry:

Was NOT a fan of the add-ins  , shouldnt mess with classics! Time to whip out the VHS! I come from a family of packrats,we most definitely saved ours! "Be kind, please rewind." (thumbs u

  6. Really loving this show. Reminds me of the Goonies meets Guillermo Del Toro.

Exactly! This monster had the vibe of the monster in Pan's Labyrinth! Just finished the show tonight and thought it was great, I see some critical reviews but all in all, for a "Netflix original" I thought they did a great job! Looking forward to the next season! :)

  7. “He's a hilarious character, and he looks so cool, you know? The skull head, the hood, and his superpower is he can copy anyone's fighting style; can you imagine that visually? If he fought Deadpool and started whipping things around and doing all the flips, and then he fought Wolverine? It would be phenomenal - he's an incredible character.”

    :wishluck:

    ______________________________________________________

yes! Curious to see which route they go, I'm assuming they'll go CG with the whole head- VS- mask/makeup? Either way, I'm excited. :applause:

  8. With all the Alien V talk, I thought this was a nifty little trivia fact...

In the film Alien Resurrection (1997) the character Annalee Call, when revealed as being a robot, is noted by another character to be "an Auton, a robot designed by other robots."

Auton's first appeared in Jon Pertwee's first serial as the Doctor, Spearhead from Space in 1970 and they returned in 2005's Series 1's first episode "Rose."

As a fan of both Alien and Dr Who, very cool tidbit! Concept of Autons is pretty interesting, did some quick google-research. Would be a neat concept to see more movies/shows focus on.

  9.

... That sounds interesting, although when we spoke to del Toro at Comic-Con last year, it sounded like his idea was to go deeper into the kaiju world.

I had heard that before and was really hoping they'd expand upon that idea. I'm glad Del Toro isnt leaving the project completely. Seems like there's some good casting involved at least! Hadn't heard that john boyega was joining yet so that is exciting. Now just to wait until 2018...

  10. Lucille Tastes Blood And King Ezekiel Is Revealed In THE WALKING DEAD Season 7 Trailer

AMC has confirmed that The Walking Dead season seven will premiere on October 23rd, but the cable network has today released the first trailer for the hit series. This isn't the best sneak peek for the show because most of it is made up of flashbacks in order to avoid revealing who Negan kills in the premiere, but we do at least get to see the aftermath of his brutal attack as Lucille is covered in blood.

However, it's the time we spend with the Saviors which proves to be most interesting, while The Kingdom is also revealed. It's there that we get our first look at King Ezekiel, and yes, they've even brought the tiger to the small screen!

And although they took it down for now, King Ezekiel was revealed.

Ahh!! Thanks for sharing the trailer! I watched carefully to see what main characters they would show in the trailer to rule out who died at the end of last season, but see they purposefully kept most of them out of it. :pullhair: ...the wait continues...

"I don't know what the hell's going on, in the most wonderful way!" -Carol lol

  11. Are you my mummy?

Those two episodes freaked me out and gave my daughter nightmares for a few nights.

Ahh, yes!! The Empty Child definitely had the creepy factor! (As well as introduced the wonderful character that is Jack Harkness (thumbs u ) Any others in the harkness club? Love me some Torchwood, dare I bring up another series in the Dr Who thread.

  12. I've been watching this thread and, wow! So much talent!! (worship) I am moving from my apartment and found some old stuff hidden away, so I am posting my attempt at a watercolour owl I did about 4 yrs ago. Please don't laugh at him. (thumbs u

  13. I'm not familiar with Karl Urban outside his appearances in the Trek films, so hearing his real accent takes some getting used too.

It also looks like Chris Pine's hair cut is another throw back to the '60s show.

Never caught/lack of interest in Lord of the Rings?

After seeing them in the theaters, I got burned out, especially after sitting uncomfortably through the long ending of Return of the King. I respect the films but I'm not interested watching them again anytime soon. :tonofbricks:

:o What?! Those movies are totally worth all limbs falling asleep, especially Directors cut/extended edition! And return of the king was 2003, not worth a rewatch by now? (thumbs u

    Also,chris pine's hair.

  14. They had me at "From the brains behind Veronica Mars".

:bump: I totally see this thread is from a while ago...but, regardless--what a fun show, right? Anyone still watching? Or people who were excited for the show have thoughts on how it compared to the comic? Just realized that I started and never finished this show, so I definitely have a date with Netflix very soon to finish. :D

  15. "The basic idea is acting like ALIEN3 and 4 never existed"

    Thank God.

    OUCH!

lol Regardless of...past mistakes, i'll be going into A5 with hope. Prometheus got my thumbs up approval so.... *fingers crossed* ?

  16. Love the idea of a Harley movie, BUT can she not have the SS movie outfit and something closer to her comic outfits, please? Maybe this is an unpopular opinion and dont get me wrong, Robbie looks fantastic, obviously, but I just thought the look was too... processed. Not true to her character. The blingy "Puddin" necklace, "Daddy's Little Monster" shirt, customized "Property of Joker" jacket? meh. I liked the more raw outfits from the comic. Anyways, I'll still give Robbie a chance. ;)

Also, quick note: Where is King Shark in all these trailers? I want to see them work this CG magic.
