  1. I've talked to poeple about comics many times, I've found that the trick is to connect it (comics) to something tangible, something that seems more "real" to the listener. I've had the pleasure of holding lectures about comics for non-comic interested people, but always made the subject with some kind of angle. The latest I held a while back was "Sex and sexuality in comics through publishing history.". Sex sells. But more important, people know about sex, they know about literature. This was just a more niched dive into the subject, and a fun one to boot. :D

I wanted to get a Wolverine v2 #67 but didn't see a single copy, though it is modern. I also wanted a few of the later ASM issues in newsstand editions but didn't see most of them in any version, let alone newsstand. I did get a newsstand copy of #500, but that was the only comic on my list that I actually found, out of about thirty comics and in two days of looking. I bought maybe 50 comics but 49 of them were bought to trade with other people, not for my collection.

Weird, was also looking for that one. Got all other issues of the old man logan storyline, but not 67. And agree, ASM in specific numbers above 300 were not that easy to find, tried to complete my run from 200 and up, still 10 issues to find that were nowhere to be seen at the con.

This is one of the major changes I have noticed the past 5-6 years selling moderns and hot variants at local shows. Prior to that, you would expect to be asked for a 10-20% discount on everything, and more if someone pulled a stack of books. The vast majority of the post 2010 new wave of collectors pull a stack of books they want, add it up, and then pay full sticker for them no questions asked.

US collectors don't haggle anymore? I was there, and as a foreigner from a culture almost totally void of haggling, trying to go lower feels so wrong in some ways. Did manage to overcome that block on sunday and got some great deals, but still felt wierd.

  4. I'm also going to NY, the first week of october, for NYCC. I've been to the city before and already done the touristy stuff, was thinking about focusing on Brooklyn and all the comic shops there. Any tips on hidden gems (restaurants, comic book shops etc) are welcome. :)

Edit: I'm travelling from Sweden though, not the UK like OP. Comic book shops will be awesome as long as they have dollar bins and a somewhat wide selection to preuse (dollar bin back issues here usually lands around the equivalent of 5$ and up).

  5. Is Kva the punching bag? I thought that was greggy? Soon you'll tell me that ducttape ain't made of ducks, bowler hats are unsuitable for bowling, and that adds dont add up. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

  6. As someone who constitute as "international" (Sweden to be more precise), I'm always happy when I find a seller willing to ship to me. The GPS however is a killer, extreme fees (often $30+ to ship a single comic), import taxation on items that should be tax exempt and so on. I'm considering signing up for one of those relay services where you get a US adress that consolidate incoming parcels and send them to me.

But are you watching Gary V., Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, whomever  OR comic book related media people? :baiting:

I also didn't ask about the dozen or so Facebook, MeWe, etc. sites, but that is also something I'm interested in hearing people talk about in a thoughtful way.

Try to keep my youtubing to comic related content, but cats always seem to work their way in. 🤔
