MOST VALUABLE MODERN VARIANTS - THE RANKINGS
devald replied to Jaydogrules's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
I don't think those diamond screenshots tell us anything vis a vis print run outside of basic item specifics and where to click when placing an order. the yellow note boxes, for all the variants provided as examples, are all written differently telling me that it's someone free typing a lot of this information or cloning an existing item (cover A) and using that as a template. Who knows, maybe someone can reach out to "wsteph" at diamond to find out what they meant by case pack 1 when they entered this into the system. I think it's more likely than not that "wsteph" is clearly someone's user name. -

wouldn't you need to find another ratio variant offered in the same manner (after FOC) to see if it received the same "case pack: 1" treatment. the screenshots are of an ordering system at the end of the day. Using 1 could be a default value used by whoever setup the item in the catalog so that end users can access/order it. doesnt provide indication of qty produced. seeing the asm648 with 130 doesnt really tell me anything except that if i ordered 13000 copies of coverA and I ordered 130 copies of the campbell they'd send me one case of variants. for 667, I read it as I order 300 copies of coverA I get 1 full case of 225, a partial box filled with 75 copies and paper to cushion it. and then I'd have 3 separate boxes with just 1 dellotto. 5 boxes from diamond -
appreciate this but I am almost certain consistency is off amongst titles, e.g., batgirl vol 1 ended newsstand at issue 69 and the stephanie brown series started at issue 12. just like I'm sure there's no newsstand version of battle chasers 1 and young avengers 1.
-
apologies in advance if this is already documented in a thread or if a site exists, but is there a list of documented newsstand issues by title? curious what the last newsstand issue of batgirl (vol 1 2000 to 2006) is and I couldn't find anything while googling or searching the boards. thanks in advance

MOST VALUABLE MODERN VARIANTS - THE RANKINGS

So it's not a clear picture (apologies but best I can do as I don't own a copy) but it was pulled from here (presumably scans of the issue) https://comicpunch.net/reader/Spawn/Spawn-Issue-222/25 But this variant and its details were discussed on this thread where I originally saw the letter page picture indicating 400 copies (or less). https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/405472-spawn-variants/page/5/#comments But anyone with a copy of 222 can flip to letters page to verify but this was a surprise "chase" cover that wasn't announced and sent out at random. Similar I think to the Boom Studios "Jackpot" incentives a few years back. -

it was printed in the letter pages of Spawn 221 or 222 (dont have the issue or screenshot but hopefully someone here can provide) and the editor (or whoever managed that page) wrote as an announcement that there were 400 copies of this variant printed and distributed, presumably, randomly. -

That's my assumption/best guess.... but judging from the 1:250 and where that art came from, HC book below, it seems more likely than not. -

Interesting that the edition size is 2,500 copies for this... Marvel has been increasing the # of copies since their first glow in dark, SDCC 2018 = 1,000 Cosmic Ghost Rider 1 NYCC 2018 = 2,000 Return of Wolverine 1 SDCC 2019 = 3,000 Captain Marvel 7 -
I had to do something similar for my Danger Girl #2 and #3 in order to have CGC distinguish the versions. Also for Gen 13 #1 Cover A (1996 "ongoing") It was a little bit easier in my case since both DG 2 and 3 are $1.95 cover priced (Gen 13 is $2.50) with the newsprint paper stock versus the $2.50 (Gen 13 is $2.95) "glossier" stock for Directs.

I believe only Battle Chasers 2 & 3 were distributed to newsstands. Haven't seen a 1. Would love to see a scan/example of 1 though.

they'll most likely limit to two like the wolvie. And at NY they handed out tickets every 2 or so hours. and not all at once at the beginning. hope you get one... I'll probably get one off Ebay -

my guess if it was like NYCC Return of Wolverine 1 JSC. The marvel booth ppl would hand you a ticket to comeback at a later time, and then you could line up. This way they didn't have huge lines or books selling out too quickly -

If anyone is looking for the fanexpo War of the Realms variants, they have some 3 cover sets on their store. $99 which isn't terrible when compared to going price on ebay for the completionists, https://fanexpostore.com/comic-books/the-war-of-the-realms-1-convention-exclusive-combo-includes-covers-a-b-c.html -

new high for ASM 688 1:50 Campbell ?? per Watchcount = $ 1,892.18 Wow. A 25% increase from the 1500 sale mentioned in @Jaydogrules latest "The Score" ranking. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-Man-688-J-Scott-Campbell-1-50-Variant-CGC-9-8-NM-1-OF-23-COPIES-/303156134886?_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true -

Marvel introduces incentives to 2nd prints
devald replied to williamblood's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
first appearance of a character in a book/comic has no relationship to a printing/edition. TOS39 is still 1st appearance of Iron Man in comics regardless of which printing it is. See Marvel Milestone Iron Man, it is a reprinting of the first appearance (says so on the cover). And a second print is another way of saying a reprinting. both TOS39 and this marvel milestone are the first appearance of the character, just one is a much later reprinting. see also asm361, it's a second printing of the first full appearance. -

thought this was interesting... for those who like the art but don't want a store variant or can't afford the original https://www.sideshow.com/collectibles/marvel-captain-marvel-art-sideshow-collectibles-500794 This is the first print from sideshow where I've seen so many finishing options. -

So this one was mine and it did not sell at that amount. I leveraged the best offer function through ebay's messaging system. For whatever reason watchcount did not pick up the actual sold price through that feature. I've noticed this on other smaller books sold this way as well. I wonder if GPA and other sales aggregators mischaracterize realized prices when done thru ebay's best offer feature within messages.
