Another great yeller-color cover. Thanks for posting this book.

Gut feeling tells me that soil on the bottom left of the front cover is glue. Dunno why. I'm not going to downgrade the defect much.

    7.5/8.0.

    Great looking book. Really great.

Also, how many checks did that index accumulate back in the day?

I was fortunate to be able to get every issue!  Some of the early books are not in very good condition.  Issue #1 is pretty heavily restored.  Lots of color touch and who knows what else, but at least I have it.  No way I could afford it now!  I don't think any of the other issues have restoration.  I plan on posting many of the issue here since I am not good at grading and am interested to see what others think of the grades.  I will have to get some of these out of the safe deposit box so I can post them.

  2. I have another book to submit today for your review.

I have the Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Comics Index, which which displays the cover and basic details for spider-man 1 - 151.  When I was purchasing these back issues in the late '70 and early '80 I would write in the index how much I spent on each issue.  So, unfortunately, it cost me a bit more than is written on the splash page of this comic... it cost me a whopping $3.00!

This issue looks really nice.  The square bound spine is in really good condition.  The only issue I see is in the bottom right corner.  There is a bit of something on the cover and is a bit rough to the touch.  I think that might come off if the comic was cleaned.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this book!

  3. I have had this book for a very long time.  Probably purchased it sometime in the mid 80's, so it didn't cost me very much.

Somehow I ended up with two copies of this comic, and I think this one is a slightly lower grade.  I expect to post the other copy soon.

Decent gloss on the cover, but the right upper and lower corners are a bit soft.  The staples look like they might have a bit of rust on them and the top staple has a small rip in the cover.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this book!

  4. Hello Everyone,

Today I submit for your input Amazing Spider-Man 316.  I am the original owner, having purchased this at my LCS.  It has been read once and bagged and boarded.  This issue seems to be rather popular right now so thought I would look for your input and see what you thing!

I have considered submitting many of my comics for slabbing but the process seems rather daunting and confusing, and could get a bit expensive, especially for some of the older silver age Spideys.

As for this issue, I don't see any obvious flaws.  The paper quality may be more OW/W instead of straight W.

Thanks in advance for any input you may have!

  5. My first submission to PGM!  I probably purchased this in the early 80's when I was actively collecting.  Although I decided to start with Silver Surfer, I primarily focused on Spider-Man and have many silver and bronze age issues.  I kept track of how much the ASM issues cost me at the time and it would be interested to compare with how much they are worth now.

Let me know if additional images would be helpful.  I appreciate any input you an provide.

  6. I am curious if you could explain a bit about how the pricing works.

I am in a similar situation that you were.  I used to collect comics in the late 70 and early 80, stopped for a while and collected again in the early 90.  I have been thinking about getting some of my comics slabbed but have been confused how the pricing works.

For example, I have several copies of ASM 361.  If I submit them and get a variety of results back like a 9.2, 9.6, and 9.8 then would I be charged different rates depending on the grade?  I could be charged $27 (Value), $38, (Economy), and $65 (Standard).  Is this correct?

    Thanks!

    Marvel Index #1 1975

FN/VF 7.0 (Looks better but has some foxing / discoloration to back cover)

    $40

These things simply rock.  Awesome covers, thick statured (CGC DOES GRADE THEM). tougher to find.

I have one of these.  Every time I got a Spider-Man back issue I wrote how much it cost next to its picture in this magazine.  It is crazy to see how little they cost me in the early 1980's!
