  1. I have several boxes of book runs or sequential issues I’ve kept over the years that had intriguing stories, good art, were part of my original PC or all of the above. I’d like to offer them here as individual lots so that anyone with an interest in the character (or good stories) will have some nice reading. Some of the larger lots will practically provide an instant collection of the title (actually, no “practically” about it since a couple of the bigger lots have a run of a few hundred same-titled issues). Due to their selling in lots, I’ll be generalizing about the book conditions, but to make up for lack of specifics, I’ll be conservative and undergrade their description. They should grade mostly high but if it will be better if I 1) noted a borderline VFN as FN and just leave it at that 2) price the lot to sell well below whatever FMV is currently and 3) include shipping. If that’s not enough to justify the prices, why… there’s more! Be on the lookout for some added free bonus items within the lots as well. With that in mind, again, I’m not looking at them as investments rather they are presented for reading enjoyment - not really profit-making. If they go into someone’s PC or someone spots an item to make money on, then… great! As some lots range into 1985, I’m going to post the required ones here while the main thread with older lots is at Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Only. This will take some time and I will be updating the Lot List periodically as I get through different boxes. Payment: PayPal or checks (must clear). I think my bank (TD) has Zelle, so if you are familiar enough to use it then that’s fine also. Shipping: Only to the US and is already included. Smaller lots will go via USPS while FedEx ground will be used for the heavier boxes. Insurance is covered up to $100.00 as per either of these shipping company’s guidelines and few lots will have an ask over that amount but extra insurance can be provided/requested at cost. Returns: No returns. They’ll be enough quantity, enough reading matter and enough cheapness to grant satisfaction. (I think, anyway). Miscellanea: No HoS or Probation List buyers. “Take It” time stamp in the thread will determine lot sales. PM with any questions or if a specific lot item picture is requested. Thank you for looking. 3. I think he steeples (pats a few times), gradually moves to the interlock, then (when realization dawns) releases and smacks his left fist into his right hand with an appropriate "Holy ...." exclamation. I don't know why our phones aren't ringing off the hook yet with calls from Hollywood.
  4. Am I the only one that noticed "Harshen Patel" is an anagram for "elephant rash?" And that "Brandon Terrazas" is also an anagram for "Tarzans nerd boar?" I mean... I can't make anything of it, but Batman can probably do a whole mini-series on these clues.
  5. And for more comparison, here's the 3.5 with water damage that sold 1/22 on CL for $12,027: Good colors (or at least a good scanner) but that water damage, along with the usual problems found in that grade, might make you go for the lesser grade with better eye appeal. Classic case of "Buy the book.." etc.
  6. It does seem that they have become affordable in that range, though the FF 1 was CR/OW with a large water stain and damage running from the front through to the back cover. Still, the X-Men 1 was a Suscha News pedigree! The higher grade SA keys seem to be keeping their value... if you can find them. I've been looking for a high-grade JIM 83 for a while now but there are no bargains to be had. I suspect that collectors are not selling too much of the "good stuff" in this somewhat depressed market or when they do come out the prices are high without too much room for negotiation, no matter the market trend.
  7. I also had never heard his voice; it's great that he was really driven to create those stories and genuinely seemed like a nice guy as well. By the time I was collecting he was deservedly well-known. I came to read multiple stories about him in the CBG (I particularly remember some by Mark Evanier), but especially in the Rocket's Blast Comic Collector where a young Don Rosa would glowingly mention him all the time in his "Information Center" (along with his favorite TV show, "The Prisoner," which caused me to seek out and view all the episodes by hook or by crook, but that's another story). I remember Rosa expressed a desire more than once to one day get the chance to write and draw some Duck comics like Barks, especially Uncle Scrooge. It was great as a fanzine contributor (and vicariously for myself as a reader) that he was able to get that chance and perform spectacularly.
  8. Just got my swag in from @William-James88 and I'm excited to dive in; everything's new to me! But wait Johnny, there's more: Reading, eating, and playing material! I thank you on my behalf and I thank you in advance on behalf of my wife who I see eyeing those chocolate bars!
  9. For a community that is famous for long columns about acetate cover additions or eBay miscreants, it is encouraging to see the vigorous support given by all in wishing to help someone - known to them or not - being especially appropriate given the time of year. I've seen comic book enthusiasts give generously on other platforms (IG) when real-life intrudes on our fantasy hobby and this ongoing two-week thread is no different, with fans, friends, mods, and coordinators turning out to keep it in the top five of listings. It is really special to participate in as well as watch as it transcends fandom and focuses on the humanity. I even heard someone strolled in to one of the New Year's Eve parties, raised a glass and declared "A toast to James: The richest man in town." He looked kind of familiar...
  10. Piffle. Hold my beer. You're just below the half-way point - luxury! For some real fun, switch around with me and wallow in the cold, outer galactic reaches. I'm so far removed from the action, I recall the immortal words of Bob Uecker: "When I came up to bat with three men on and two outs in the ninth, I looked in the other team's dugout and they were already in street clothes."
  11. I've dealt with Jim a few times (as have we all) and a nicer person you couldn't find. Hoping for a fast and complete recovery so we can start seeing those monthly threads again. I'll confirm his PayPal ID with you Sharon and send a bit of help, as well as keep monitoring here for any other way to donate.
  12. To hear him tell it (and tell it he does over the span of 17 back-slapping pages) he was able to see stacks of comics even from the top of the stairs with the piles increasing as he descended. In his words: "... by the time I reached the bottom of the stairs, I was very, very excited." (https://www.milehighcomics.com/tales/cbg13.html). Of course that was probably nothing to the feeling he got when later they steered him to a walk-in closet also filled to the rafters and insisting he had to "clean it out" too.
  13. Reminds me of the scene in "Goodfellas" where De Niro continually beckons to Lorraine Bracco to enter this dark warehouse and she runs away, suspecting he's trying to kill her. Clearly no comics in the warehouse too I bet.
  14. That's a tough question as I bought all the SA/BA books off the shelf at cover price and stopped collecting when prices increased by leaps and bounds (instead of 5-10 cents every few years) shortly after. Also when they had those multi-title crossover stories, multi-cover cash grabs and incessant title restarts with new #1 issues (but that's another thread). That said, I do remember slogging through some Englehart/Springer/Sal Buscema stretches in Captain America in the 70s that had some laughably bad dialogue (I think he had discovered the use of the word "freakin'" and it was really overused), some pedestrian art (blank panel backgrounds and clenched teeth for all with Buscema, while "bad Springer art" is just a redundant statement) and some stories that really don't hold up. If it weren't to keep up continuity, I could have done without many issues in that run. Later on there were some pricier Daredevil (post-Miller) and Thor (can't remember if it was pre- or post-Simonson, but Thor was reduced to over-dramatics with perpetual open-mouthed hysterical warnings/threats and an incredible ineffectiveness of Mjolnir, which just seemed to perpetually bounce off whoever the villain-of-the-month was). The Cap stories were tough to get through, but I guess because of the higher prices those DD/Thor issues had a worse price/quality ratio.
  15. Since it's a Holiday Raffle, why not some toys and ornaments? All unused and sealed except for the Dredd Pack #1 which was carefully opened. Some age spots on boxes but, well... you'd have age spots if you were a few decades old too. Added extra picture for more recent bobblehead that I had also set aside for the raffle but misplaced in my storage. I'm sure that never happens to you! Shipping to the U.S. only.
  16. I'm in and know what it is - just have to take the pics!
