More appreciation for classic Fate is growing (as it should). The latest clink auction just closed, and higher than I expected (a Universal 3.0 sold last month for $1,285, and the last time a restored copy came to market was last year; a 6.5 which sold for $1,100)

I hope you're enjoying the book I sold you a few years ago! It's about time that Dr. Fate gets his due!

Wow, that's super healthy given the movie still a year plus off. We haven't even seen much of a teaser or even real news yet. I wonder where this will land come movie time? $300K doesn't seem unreasonable.

I would rather have him on cover but as long as the cover art is decent, I don't mind. That's one thing I disliked about a copy of more fun comics 73 that I had. Great book, terrible cover. A lot of people feel that way about Strange Tales 110 too. I'm not a fan of the 110 cover to begin with though. In this case, its different. I do like this one.

But at least it had Dr. Fate on it. Half-mask face granted...

GPA for a 3.0 is now at $10,000.00 (June 2021)  and the last 2.0 sale in (March 2021) is at $3,800.00. The only reason they aren't already higher is because everyone who has one, has been holding them in anticipation for the upcoming movie. With so few sales, it is a challenge to track what a true FMV would be, given the insufficient sales data. For a 6.0? It would absolutely be tens of thousands now. It is hard to say for sure, but if you let it ride at an auction site such as Comiclink or Heritage, It would do well, without question.

    Wow!

    That's a crazy increase over the past year. I have a 5.5 with off-white pages...makes you think!

You can google CGC and get the FMV pretty easily. But the 2.5 average is in the 3.2k range and the 6.0 in the 6k range. There is only a few of them showing up being sold so that's going to be hard to figure out though.

The 6.0 is likely worth quite a bit more at this point. This book, as well as Shazam #28, have seen significant rises in value lately. No ones selling.

Got it. Thanks! Thought I missed some release news of some sort. This makes the search a bit more difficult. Guess I shouldn’t have waited. O’well.

Totally! I spoke to my sister and brother in-law about those, both of whom collect things outside comics. Prices within their respective hobbies are going bonkers as well.

You can see this with cars, comics, sports cards, watches, etc. Things are just on fire. Great for sellers; bad time for buyers.

Haven’t been on for a bit so I might be late, but did something happen that the prices are increasing again? I’ve been watching a few on eBay and the prices are about libel to triple the initial.

It seems like prices on all collectibles are rocketing. The cold reality? Some have done extremely well this year, while others have suffered greatly. It seems to be playing out with collectibles of all sorts.

That's not really true.  It all depends what grade we're talking about.  Speaking for myself, anything still on my want list is a book that is not currently available for sale.  If it were, I would own it by now.

I mean, even then that's debatable at best. The closest thing we can compare them to is DC and generally the disparity is huge.

You could always argue that most books in super high-grade, say 9.8 or 9.6 are rare (at least in comparison to demand), but high-grade Marvel's aren't what I would consider "tough to find".

So I caved and had my under copy of More Fun #61 graded. I wasn't planning on it (as I love to have a reader copy of this issue on hand - the color/printing process just looks great compared to modern reprints) but it was literally going to disintegrate the next time I tried to read it.

While I was expecting a lower grade, maybe 1.5 due to the brittle and stained spine, I wasn't expecting restoration (apparently the entire cover was re-glossed. Something both me and Metropolis Comics missed - but even though I bought it over a year ago they gave me a credit when I mentioned it this week which was super decent of them). At least it still looks amazing and matches my other restored copy :D As long as the inks are rich and deep, I'll be happy!

SIGH am I forever doomed to only own restored copies of my favourite Fate cover? Back to hunting for another copy or two (at least one Universal graded and hopefully another raw reader copy)

That's the 4.5R I sold you last year right? It's definitely a looker!

Dropping $1,800+ for a 9.8 -- or even $400 for a 9.4 -- on a non-first-appearance, speculating on a book for which you know demand will peak in less than a year, seems idiotic.

Welcome to the hobby, that's pretty much the gold standard over the last decade.

Like anything I'm sure 9.8's will hit ~$3K for a month or two and then go back down. That's how all of the movie books work. Some solidify a new base, some don't. Still compared to most bronze books it has a pretty low amount of census copies at 671, with only 36 9.8s.

Maybe - still not his first appearance, tho.

And the movie was announced *years ago.* There was an additional casting announcement made last week It's not like this isn't a known thing.

You're not incorrect, but 1 appearance 30 years prior is a bit different from most character arcs. The Rock is attached to it. It'll pop just like everything else.
