  1. Please please please tutorial so I can block Mile High, and those DVD and color copies guys who are all over the golden age category!
  2. This makes a lot of sense. While variants are not my thing, there are plenty of long-time collectors who get excited about the relative scarcity of price variants. Heck, this is not a new invention. I posted maybe two days ago in comics general in what's new in your collection this week -- I just bought a 16-box collection that's maybe 80% classics illustrated. Apparently, the late collector was attempting to assemble one of every different Highest Reorder Number (eg - each different reprinting) of all 169 issues of the series -- literally about 1,600 different comics. I'm not keeping it all -- far from it. But I'll keep the early originals and some non-Classics stuff from the collection. Arguably, you get more variance for your variant collection with different covers than 30 vs 35 cents on the cover. But then I never chased those either. But the completionist is a strain of collector, and it's for them. We are a hobby of niches.
  3. Just saw this; thank you! Yes I do plan on moving most of the higher numbers; right now I'm leaning toward keeping all the original LDC's at minimum. I'll note the missing items in your sig line and see what is here that might close those gaps. I only parsed through #39 so far; happy to see this in there.
  4. Here's a look at some of the stack, with an array of the different HRN's of #1 represented. On the far right is the original edition. In the box above it, the EC pictured is the issue of Picture Stories from the Bible that is not in Gerber (Old Testament #2). Yes, that's Star Wars 1 next to it -- lots of bronze movie comics make up maybe 2/3 of the 15% that is not Classics. The rest is random GOlden Age and Silver Superman titles and a few one-offs. 16 boxes of fun and discovery! (Yes there's an original edition of #32 as well.)
  5. I've spent the evening sorting a 16-box collection I aquired yesterday, at least 80% of which is Classics Comics/Classics Illuatrated. It seems the guy was shooting for every different HRN (they're not all here, but he didn't too badly!) I'm through issue 39 thus far and it seems a good percentage of the original editions are here. Here's one of the coolest, the original edition of the Prince and the Pauper, and the only edition to offer this "horror" cover. Just 22 on the census.
  6. Northstar #1, early Tim Vigil art. Signed by Vigil and Mark Bernal, #488 of 1000. NM- with some light spine ticks on white cover that I would think could press out. $85 shipped in U.S.
  7. First in thread wins Shipping: U.S. included; Canada ships at actual minus $5. Payment -- check or money order; I do not have Paypal. Returns - Sure, just notify me within three days of receipt and get them back on your dime for refund of purchase price. Don't be listy Including the little one in my head.
  8. That's definitely Single Series #5 in the first pic, three books to the left of Tec 27. You can make out Phil Fumble easily enough.
  9. I gotta be nuts....16 boxes yesterday, four longs and a dozen of thos legal size banker's file boxes. It was N estate collection, and the guy seemed to be going after every HRN of Classics Comics/Illustrated, as about 13 of the 16 are nothing but. Pictured for example is the various HRN's of #1; most every issue of the 169 is like this. On the far right is an original #1. (The Picture Stories from the Bible in the box above it, next to a Star Wars #1, is the one that is not pictured in Gerber. Most of the EC Bible comics are here too.) There's not original printings of every classic, but many it seems. Found original #1 and #32 (Lorna Doone, all Matt Baker) last night on a spot-check. There's also most of the Juniors, two sets of Marvel Classics Comics from the bronze era, various foreign CI, the various special issues (Story of Jesus, United Nations, etc). The non-Classics boxes are various bronze era movie-themed comics including a near-full run of Star Wars, some of the very last 60-cent Whitman Comics in high grade, and a scattering of cool Golden Age (Shadow v1 #11&12, Mr District Attorney #1). It was too cool not to rescue; with 1,400 different U.S. Editions of Classics (counting each different HRN) 13 boxes with few doubles is probably pretty close though not quite complete from what I can see. I'll pick some keepers and figure out how to parse many to some new homes. The fun is in the hunt and discovery!
  10. Who knew LB Cole had a run of covers on Classics Illustrated Junior? Surprised me. Other fun items I've come across so far in this collection: special issues including first edition Story of Jesus, and the United Nations special issue. There's also Shadow Comics v1 #'s 11&12, and a Mr District Attorney #1. Go figure. Time for bed. I'll be discovering stuff for weeks in this collection.
  11. Ok, he's not complete for every HRN but the effort is Herculean. Only one LDC For issue 21 (three mysteries) and its HRN 30. Spot-checking now given that not all issues have original printings present, but so far there are originals for 1,11 and 32 among my spot checks.
  12. I might have some updates over time for this thread., and I may need some insights from the Classics collectors. I bought a collection today, from a deceased collector's son. Well, dad liked classics. 16 boxes, 4 longs and a dozen legal size file boxes, and 12 or 13 are all Classics. Most every number looks like this. Obviously, I'm not sure yet if there's every HRN for every book 1-169 but it looks like what he was shooting for. The other boxes are random GA, silver supermans, a near full Star Wars run, most every bronze movie comic, lots of religious comics including much of the EC output, and of course a wolverine mini #1 Lord knows what else I will find, but I am about to sit down with my Gerber and my overstreet and my iPad and start to get a sense of how close to complete his classics set is. I've even got the minis with cassettes still sealed. Never saw them before. I love the thrill of learning new corners of our hobby!
  13. Last four books coming up NOW...."Buy this thread" option does NOT include them, these four are priced as marked. However: 1) It still applies to everything before this point, as do above-stated discounts. 2) If you take any of the final four books coming after this post at their posted price, you may take any remaining books posted previously, at 25% off. Here we go, last four books, priced as marked ...
  14. Ok, I did the math -- the "Buy This Thread" option equals 28% off, so... Let's do any remaining individual takes at 20% off Take more than one item (but short of "buy this thread") at 25% off For those of you who have taken something already, whether full price or 15% off, take anything additional at 25% off. If that wasn't clear, just ask. This applies to everything posted thus far, which may be it. But I have some Venom 5&6 from that six-issue miniseries, I think, if I can find them. So I might add those last-minute.
