  1. Great cover, and one of the great Marvel slugfests -- reader copy required with this one!
  2. Sorry for my delay in thanks gang, been running around. But thank you all as this is much-appreciated and gives me multiple options!
  3. Yes, thanks DocHoppus for sharing! I think there's more kids out there like this than we think. There's a flea market baseball card dealer near me who sells a lot of $1 readers and does not want to bother with anything else. When he buys collections, he has a 14-year-old who sorts them for him and sells the hot movie books etc on Instagram. They split the profits. I met the young man one day and he told me how he bought an X-Men 1 and DD1 with his share. They are out there.
  4. Red dressed blonde in trouble to red dressed blonde who looks like trouble
  5. Who sells these today? Anyone got a good place to order from without having to buy a batch of them? Thanks!
  6. I understand; I'm just reporting words spoken to me when I asked on the phone. My interpretation/takeaway from that conversation was quick press was worth a shot for an NCB or two. I was just trying to understand when each level of service would be appropriate. The volume thing was of course on my mind too.
  7. I wonder why they would reject it? Transparency, including published grading standards used, would frankly be a good thing. Yes, there's an art to it too, and one cannot enumerate every flaw in advance in written form. But just as Overstreet puts grade definitions in print in the guide, published standards plus the grading notes for any book should be enough for any collector to reconcile the grade assigned to a particular book. But for now I would settle for understanding what a "Qualified .5" is. Maybe I never understood the Qualified label correctly? But we all seem to have the same understanding of it.
  8. Poke the grader. Notes about a stain on cover (must be invisible ink) and small tear on back (oh, now I see it...less than 1 cm). One good-sized spine tick. Sometimes they get it wrong too. That's all I remember the LCS reading me from the notes. Will go back for print-outs but I was in a hurry at pick-up.
  9. Hang out in a Ricksneatstuff sales thread for about a week...you'll change your own mind about a dozen times...but many of the top of mind classics have been named here.
  10. I agree with you. Neither book posted as examples (yours or Yorick's) gives the outward appearance of a .5 (a complete .5 needs to be much uglier); they both owe their "poor" status to incompleteness. The implication of the "Qualified" label is that the grade assigned (in this case .5) is what the book would be if it were complete. They are defying their own established pattern of logic. It will be interesting to see what answer comes in response to Bomber bob's post.
  11. Thank you buyers and lookers; I'm closing this thread now as its time to move some of the silver age original owner collection that I bought. If you're interested, watch for it in G/S/B sometime between the weekend and the next week or so. Also FYI, I currently have a nice (all raw NM range) 37-book Preacher lot including #1 in Copper/Modern. It's a one-lot thread, so that one is remaining. Thanks all! -- Readcomix
  12. Okay, any fence-sitters out there scratching their heads? I'm going to close this soon, probably tomorrow a.m. (I'm EST) so I don't have too many threads going on at once. I have a small original owner silver age collection that I plan to offer a portion of in the near future. (It was an all or nothing deal, I only wanted/needed some things, but it was all cool stuff so I took it.) Again, thank you to buyers and lookers. Will PM payment info once I close this. Thanks!
  13. That's Chuck's new in-flight grading service...the Mile High club
