  1. Thank you buyers and lookers; I'm closing this thread now as its time to move some of the silver age original owner collection that I bought. If you're interested, watch for it in G/S/B sometime between the weekend and the next week or so.

Also FYI, I currently have a nice (all raw NM range) 37-book Preacher lot including #1 in Copper/Modern. It's a one-lot thread, so that one is remaining.

    Thanks all! -- Readcomix :insane:

  2. Okay, any fence-sitters out there scratching their heads? I'm going to close this soon, probably tomorrow a.m. (I'm EST) so I don't have too many threads going on at once. I have a small original owner silver age collection that I plan to offer a portion of in the near future. (It was an all or nothing deal, I only wanted/needed some things, but it was all cool stuff so I took it.)

Again, thank you to buyers and lookers. Will PM payment info once I close this. Thanks!

  4. Ok, here we go....I bought a large estate collection from the estate of a collector who was apparently a fastidious read and bag type. So the offer is 37 assorted Preacher books in what I would describe as newsstand mint. That is, to my eye the majority would score 9-something if graded, I would think. There may Outliers that would fall into the 8's, but most books should be safely north of 9.

Pix below include the back and front of #1, the condition of which is fairly representative of the majority of the lot. I do not see it being a 9.8 but it is a nice book.

I have also included the front of #11 as the color-breaking create in the upper right corner is the most glaring flaw I have found across the 37 books. Otherwise, it's mostly the odd spine ticks here or there. Happy to accommodate any specific requests for additional pix.

what's included: Preacher #1-11 and #18-37: Saint of Killers #'s 3 and 4, and four specials: One Man's War, The Story of You-Know-Who, The Good Old Boys, and Cassidy: Blood & Whiskey.

    $250 shipped.

These books belonged to a man whose neighbor gave them to him prior to moving out of state decades ago (they were the neighbor's son, who was an artist and why he kept the books).  They sat in a box until recently when he recently decided to sell them.  Sorry about the lack of information but this is all that was shared with me.  I asked on the spine tape and the buyer didn't know....  But he did tell me he has a bunch of big little books from the 30's and 40's he is interested in selling...

I guess that magazine is the 1st appearance of Marilyn Monroe (it was a throw in on our deal).(shrug)

Cool; thank you! I just love the stories of how these original collections get preserved and unearthed. We do kind of record our hobby's history here. Congrats, what an awesome batch to haul to the surface after all these years! (thumbsu

Found these in the wild earlier today!!!  I'm pretty happy (but wish a lot of the spines were not taped, especially because the majority didn't need any reinforcement)...

Sorry for the picture size!  I'm still trying to figure out this new format/forum...  Cheers!

Awesome! Is there more of a story you can share?

  8. 1. I've slabbed a fragile Mad 1 to protect it. I may do this with others, either due to fragility, or high grade and/or high value to the point that I do not wish to any longer open it multiple times.

    2. If I'm slabbing to sell, it's nearing sell time. I'm not tying up capital in a slab for a book I don't intend to keep until it's near time to move it.

    3. None. I cannot stand this trend as I still view autographs as writing on books. I will pass on autographed books.

I have .. "some" books that i think probably should be run through a pressing of some sort.

    My questions are:

The quick press i think if i understand correctly.. is just a press.. and the 'regular' press that takes much longer included some 'mild dry cleaning ?? ie removal of easy to clean stuff like maybe dirt/pencil marks, etc..?? right?

the other question is.. does it REALLY take 40 business days? I get theres a lot going on etc.. but seems like if there is an 8 week backup, maybe we need an additional person/press :)   Just wondering.. i dont want to send a book off and have it missing for 8 weeks for pressing and then 7 weeks for grading (if you dont do fast passes) unless I know up front.

    THANKS!!!

I have had books out for a while, two for quick press. I called in advance and asked about the differences. I was told a quick press is once thru and that's it. Full press may include additional passes and some hand work if necessary. I asked about whether a quick press also includes a dry clean and was told the press is the dry clean. Based on that, with just one NCB of difference-making concern on each book, I went quick press. Most anything else/more and I would have elected full.
