  1. I only left Joe’s old bags because they had his notations on them in some cases. I figured boardies might re-bag and keep the old, but this way you had the option. Thank you and enjoy!
  2. I’ve been able to acquire some of Joe Sinnott’s personal file copies of his Atlas work. Most of these were comps he received. In the 50’s, Joe went down to NYC from the Hudson Valley to get his assignments at the Atlas offices. He was allowed to take from the newsstand that Atlas ran in the lobby of their office building up to three copies of anything he worked on. Before his passing, with the help of a friend, he and his son identified the undercopies and sold them off. Joe then signed and retained the remaining nicest copy of each. (Joe signed on the margin of the first page of each story he worked on in a book; some are signed multiple times.) After his passing, his family began to release them. These are a few of mine; not all will be keepers but I am still deciding. (I believe the PCH books were not comps as they are not as high-grade as the others. Joe did fill in gaps in his archives with lower-grade back issue purchases if he did not receive comps.)
  3. Winter doldrums gotcha down? Con season still out in the distance, the annual Dale Roberts barroom brawl has faded into memory….Catrick has completed his latest cornucopia, Kramerica is winding down his masterpiece of a thread over the next few days….whatever shall we do???? Do not despair…for if you are patient….when least you expect it…..You Might Find It!
  4. Anyone who has never read a Herbie should — funny, weird, disturbing, usually.
  5. I have to be up and out early, so make sure that dog has plenty of water in his bowl tonight, Rick!
  6. One Price Drop here, or its off to MCS ... $350 shipped within U.S.!
  7. @Baltimore Lauren any insight?
  8. Only recent sale I can locate; none available on eBay, MCS, C-Link, Comic Connect or Heritage.
  9. The Taxx #1 (Parody Press 1996) tough-to-find Maxx parody about a berserk Australian account. Wolverine, Lobo and Sin City get parodied in the story too. VF range with most flaws pressable except some color rubbing, slight color breaks on back. If you’re not familiar with the book, those are not chips along the right edge. Page 1 sticks out a bit from under the cover. This copy is not pressed; would definitely benefit. Only two on the census, a 9.2 and a 9.0. With a press this one may be in the mix. (WAS $400) NOW $350 shipped within U.S.
  10. 5 Simple Rules (Please, please read) 1st wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread. Payment is Check or Money Order (yeah, yeah I know I'm a dinosaur, troglodyte, luddite, mennonite, hermaphrodite etc. - I just don't have or want e-payments.) Shipping: Via USPS Priority is included. Will adjust slightly for actual to Canada. Don't be listy including the little one in my head. Returns: Sure, just notify me within three days of receipt and get it back to me in the same shape on your dime, except no returns on graded books. (Kudos thread linked under my avatar.)
  11. I didn’t read him as being derogatory. I think he was being literal. Comics are not primarily scarcity-driven, though it can be a secondary factor. I have very scarce comics that are nowhere near as valuable as many far more common comics. As you said, in coins, scarcity is the separating factor. There is no content to read. I don’t see scarcity alone as a protection against hobby collapse. (Gold and silver coins of course will always have some value based on the metals) Sustained interest is the key to any collectibles hobby continuing to thrive, whether it’s comics, coins, big little books, muscle cars, guitars, watches, firearms, whatever. Collectors in these various hobbies stack the variables of condition, scarcity, beauty, functionality etc differently but all that is within the greater body of how many people are interested at all. I do see that comics’ definition of “keys” has narrowed greatly to increase the outsize importance of first appearances. But that may be a factor of readily available reprints of sought-after stories. (Eg — the Avengers kree-skrull war were keys based on content, the storyline. People on here can easily think of their own examples across eras — monster society of evil in Capt Marvel Adventures, ASM 31-33, Kraven’s Last Hunt, Great Darkness Saga in LSH, etc). All hobbies need their participants to be historians and pass along why a particular item is cool/interesting/desirable. Cynically, it’s easy to see this as salesmanship/shilling but there’s a difference. If knowledge isn’t passed along, new interest doesn’t take root.
  12. They just announced a 2-month residency in Vegas. Hopefully the idea would resonate with them since Jerry was a collector. I assume the Kitchen Sink books were his idea, or Kitchen cooked it up knowing Jerry was likely to think it was a good idea.
