  1. Good point, Sqeggs...dehumanizations of the enemy, I would guess. Duffman; I dunno, I like both that True and that Real Life, so all I can say is "ha ha"!
  2. Based on what you have said above, I'd still be inclined against, but I don't know your preferences and collecting goals. if the book is complete but labeled purple due to trim, is that the worst of it, or does it not present well? Worst case, you've got a complete low-grade copy of the third most desired comic, generally speaking, on the planet. I would think you could get more in cash for it and buy what you want, I'd there's approx. $4k of books in that collection you would rather have. Also, do you know it was trimmed, or was that identified in the grading process? If so, I would want to know how they are certain since so many say trimming is the toughest resto to detect accurately. There's a pretty broad variance in size among SA books from the same print run; I'm just saying I'd want high confidence with a key of that prominence. That aside, a good litmus for you -- if you converted your AF 15 purple point-five to cash, is there a book you'd rather have for the $$ than what is in the collection you are considering trading for? That's my 2 cents; hope it helps you in the way you were looking for. Can you post your book, and/or say more about your target books from the collection and your collecting goals in general?
  3. Thank you! i will have to photograph and post mine (interior of Savage Tales #1) for the committee's review.
  4. This thread is overdue for a and I was pretty happy to find this in this kind of shape:
  5. Of course, an MGA80 needs a 79, where the DP is teased as coming next issue on the letters page, but as "The Legion of the Strange."
  6. That's what I was thinking....BWS not, over his career, as anti-sig as Ditko, but fairly infrequent compared to most. That about right?
  7. Ok, total ignorance here as I'm not a sig collector (though I have a few acquired by happenstance, including BWS, which is why I'm asking), so his sig is not particularly common? I get the sense he's not exactly like Ditko, but has signed on and off sporadically?
  8. Thanks, but wow! 9.0 is sky-high for this book!
  9. As I promised Sal, I am resurrecting this magnificent Association dedicated to this underrated team.
  10. Funny, I just re-read this old thread because the headline sucked me in and I thought, "No brainer #1 even though Avengers #4 is my favorite book. What am I missing?" I still think the majority will stick with #1, but I see the argument that the real Avengers begins with Cap. Someone said without Avengers 1 there's no Cap revival, but it could be argued that the title might not have lasted had they not come up with #4. So it could be viewed a little like Hulk 180 and 181, though reality is it won't. I do think Avengers 4 and Flash 123 big as they are are still the most underrated SA keys for basically introducing the concept of linkage to the GA. I do have to wonder though, thanks to this thread, what the values would look like if the first and fourth Avengers stories as we know them had appeared not in a series starting with #1 but a converted title a la TOS 39 or JIM 83. Fun stuff to think about. i quoted the above because my 70's and 80's recollection had TTA27 in a bigger weight class than DD1 and ST110, due to relative difficulty to locate. Before the Internet era, that was a legendarily tough early SA book to locate. The other Marvel bottom-feeder key as I remember it was Sgt Fury #1.
  11. Read through this thread and completist collector that I am recovering from being, I had to add Boy Commandos 7 to this mix. They meet Thor and Odin in this ish.
  12. Cleaving the red raider to cleavage in red dress
  13. Forgive me if the new search function has failed me, but I thought we could use a thread to place any books that we have that are not in the Gerber Photo-Journals. I'll kick us off with an E.C., the only Picture Stories from the Bible that is not in there:
  14. Eight hours in this thread? Where ARE you guys?!?!? making a splash to flying four flags at full staff
  15. Yep...I suspect they mislabeled the pedigree....I believe it's from the Timothy Leary collection
  16. So a new comic is actually priced at four times inflation. Makes the dollar bins today's quarter bins, sort of. Though I guess if you factor in the ever-inflating money supply it's all a bargain.
