That Flash #128 is a neat cover, great artwork that draws you in. Makes me want to read the story to find out what the heck is going on!

Nice haul. You should post a current spreadsheet with each new update, I'd certainly send you links to some good deals on the missing books.

I'm somewhat surprised that most of these issues haven't come from the boards. I only collect 1 of the 10 titles you're looking for, so I'm no help at all. I'll check to see if I have any ASM duplicates.

I'm trying to be a bit more organic in my buying. I'm sure it would be easier and faster just posting in the WTB section and fielding offers for complete runs but I'm trying to assemble as I come across them or the mood takes me to search for a particular issue. For the most part, I've been able to get all the issues at OSPG prices including shipping. Thank you for the offer though but I'm more comfortable keeping to the buying/searching path I'm on. Cheers.

I was concerned about that, too.  Didn't want to discourage him. :makepoint:

Don't worry gentlemen, I'm not easily discouraged. If I don't make it, I don't make it. It's not that I will stop collecting. Almost every issue in my challenge is a key at some level. Besides it rekindled my love of collecting so I pick up books outside the challenge when I can.

Fair deal on the GL #2

and i always ilke the "still 10 cents" banner the Flash has............

It's pretty interesting reading the full page letters from the publishers on the first issues when they increased the price to 12 cents. They are very apologetic and hoping that the reader will still find value in the comic book experience even with the "massive" price jump.

Of the money you've budgeted, have you budgeted how much to pay per book?  How are you doing as to that metric?

I have a individual series budget and an individual book cap for a key (ie. ASM 14) and First issues (TOS 39). Some series budgets are higher like ASM and FF,  and some are lower like DD. I try to use Overstreet as a baseline as the general consesus from what I've gathered on forums here and others is that Overstreet undervalues books. So far I've gotten every book at par or cheaper than Overstreet guide value including shipping for my online purchases.

JLA's are still an affordable series in today's market IMO

this is a nice journal ti have enjoyed following your comic quest

I agree. Of all the series I am attempting to collect I feel JLOA followed by GL and DD are going to finish under budget. The one I am surprised the most by is FF as the prices on those are high and there doesn't seem to be any external speculator forces driving them up (movie/tv etc.)  Cheers.

Sweet pick ups ! that DD 5 (first Matador) looks more like an 8.0 ! i love that story and artwork, early DD's are awesome and relatively affordable ! the DD 14 is nice too

Both GL's are really good looking mid grade books

are you putting them in mylar's ?

Yep. In mylite 4s with acid free backing boards and a sheet of microchamber paper in the centerfold. The DD 5 has an inch long cut on the back cover so it looks like an 8.0 but grades out as a 6.0.

a TOS 8.5 CGC graded on average is 75 dollars. You might want to look into GPS before purchasing raw books. I mean no disrespect but showing something you might not be aware of

No disrespect taken. I am aware of GPS but it does not really suit my purposes. If I feel I'm out of my budget within each series budget for a book I won't buy. I'm not sure which # book you're referring to at 8.5 but the TOS 58 at mycomic shop in 3.0 is listed at $94 + shipping & fees, comiclink has a 3.5 on the exchange that just sold for $66 + shipping & fees and one 4.5 in auction that is currently sitting at a bid of $51 with 10 days remaining. Ebay has TOS 58 for around $100 + shipping for a 4.5. All CGC. I do feel that the TOS 58 I bought was a little over priced but in relation to Overstreet price, Online/Ebay it's not too high and it was still within budget. Plus sitting down and reading it, smelling it etc. was a great experience. It's probably best to think of this Journal as a midlife crisis and instead of a fancy impractical sports car, I'm buying comics instead. Cheers.
