  2. I'm hoping for some advice on this Fantastic Four 49.

Some notes on this comic are-

this comic does have amateur color touch, it is slight,  but as far as i can see it's been color touched in 3 small places on the cover

also on the back cover it looks like the comic has been folded both vertically and horizontally down the middle(I have taken pictures at odd angles to try to show this off) but on the cover it does not look like it has been folded at all

any advice or opinions would be great

    thank you

    , a 4" spine split (maybe more),

This comic doesn't have spine split, I went back back and look at the pictures that I posted and there is one picture that slightly could be misinterpreted for a spine split due to the shadow in the picture but really it's just me showing off but the cover is detached at one staple, if you look closely again I think you'll see there is no spine split.. If you want I can take a better picture directly up is spine to show it off better

thank you so much though for your advice and input it really helped

  4. Hello I first want to say I thought very hard about if I should post this here or on the 'hey bud can you spare a grade" forum, in the end . all things considered I thought this would be the best place to post this particular thread.  If you guys read this and think I'm posting in the wrong forum please let me know and I will immediately delete it and repost it in the "hey bud can you spare a grade" forum

anyways I have an  Avengers #1 here,  and this comic has been restored and in my opinion it's a very poor amateur restoration job(although I must admit I don't know a lot about restoration)

to me it is very obvious there is a lot of color touch along the spine and pieces have been added on the back cover.

Basically what I'm hoping for is,  could you guys please look at these pictures and give me your best estimate on a possible grade and I would love to hear any opinions on the restoration

what all do you see has been done restoration wise to this comic?

In your opinion how poor is the restoration done on this comic book?

And ultimately could you please give some kind of rough estimate on a grade?

Truly thank you so much to anyone who replies

The ink is just one more blemish on a well-worn copy.  It'd be nice to see a shot of the last interior story page and to know whether the cover is detached at the top staple.  I'm comfortable calling this a 2.0 GD (although I could definitely see others giving it a 2.5 GD+).  Most folks are kind to early ASM.  (thumbsu

    Thank you for your opinion

Cover is detached at both staples but there is a 1/2 inch spine split at the top

  6. Hey I was hoping I could get some help on this comic(Daredevil #83)... Overall I would grade the comic in 8.5 + range , it's in great condition but in the bottom left hand corner it's got some kind of blue ink defect.

I don't know if this is a defect from the factory and if so how much it would affect The grade?

Or if it's not a factory defect and someone accidentally did it and if so I'm wondering how much it would affect the grade?

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

  7. I have another question about high grade comics and how to grade them.

I have quite a few comics especially new and modern age comics that are easily 8.0 + comics but they have fingerprints on the covers right where the reader would hold them while reading them, some of them have even wore some of the color off the covers where the fingerprints are.

I am providing pictures of Amazing Spiderman #572 as an example of a modern age comic with fingerprints and the fingerprints Has even wore some of the color off the cover.

I am also providing pictures of a silver age copy of Avengers 52, in my opinion this comic is in the  8.0 range but it has fingerprints on the cover right where the reader would hold it to read it , but unlike the Amazing Spiderman #572,  this comic simply has fingerprints, they have not wore any of the color  off the cover.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on how much fingerprint  defects like this effects comics in the high grade range and would appreciate any opinions on what the grades of these 2 comics are with these fingerprints

thank you so much to anyone who responds

I agree.  But if the book is otherwise a 7.0-7.5, then I would drop further for rusty staples on top of other flaws.  Personally, one full grade so final grade is 6.0-6.5 (assuming otherwise 7.0-7.5)

    Rusty staples are bad.  :sumo:

Thank you so much for your advice and opinions it really helped a lot

I do have one more question,  hypothetically imagine this same book in the same condition but the staple is completely rusted , how much would a completely rusted staple effect the grade of a comic like this

    thank you

To many variables, rust starts small as discoloration and eventually can take over and can turn to dust and break. feel free to display a picture of the book for an estimated grade.

Here's the book that made me ask this question, overall in my opinion this book is around the 7.0 to 7.5 excluding the rust on the staple.

but on the bottom staple about 1/4 of the  staple has slight rust on it and it looks like there's a little bit of rust migration as well.

I just don't know how to grade this book, I don't know how much the rust affects the overall grade or if it really drops it all the way down to a 4.0

    any advice would be great

  10. I was  hoping some of you could tell how much rust on staples effects comics that are in the high grade range.?

I've read about 1/2 a dozen grading scales.. I can only find mentioning of rust on staples on grades 4.0 or lower, so I'm assuming that means rust on staples Knocks pretty much any comic down to a 4.0.

I'm basically just wanting to know if that is correct and  if a comic is otherwise like a 8.0 or 8.5,  if it has rust on a staple doesn't  automatically knock it down to the 4.0 range

     thank you

  11. Hello I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out with this comic, in my opinion overall this comic is in the 7.5 + range but it's got a couple defects that I don't know how to do grade

In a few spots along the spine it's got some indentations, none of the indentations break through the cover, I've taken pictures at specific angles to try to get the light right to show the indentations as best as possible, could you please look at the pictures and give me your opinion on the grade of this comic book and how much these indentations hurt the overall grade

    thank you so much

I was hoping to get some advice and opinions on this comic, overall the comic is in great shape but in the bottom right corner on the cover,  it's got a tiny chip missing and the same chip is missing out of  the first page of the comic, Simply put,  I just don't know how much this defect effects the grade

if you guys could please take a look and give me your opinions on the grade of this comic I would greatly appreciate it

  14. Thank you so much to everyone who responded, I feel like a lot of great advice.

I may end up one day sending it in to CGC to get it graded one day especially if I ever have to sell it, but I honestly don't plan on ever selling it or at least don't plan on selling it until I'm an old man.

I'm a massive collector and have a huge collection but I honestly don't have a single comic that's been graded professionally and I've never sent a comic in to be graded and the reason is  because I don't plan on selling my personal collection.. I do sell some comics on eBay but none are huge keys that would be worth sending into CGC.

Basically I'm just going through my collection right now, again it's been about five years since I really updated my major keys and checked to see where prices are,  and with this particular comic  due to the restoration  I just wasn't sure what to  grade it or where to value it.

So I made this post here, hoping just to get a rough estimate or some good advice, which I've gotten so thank you all very much

Huh. I only asked because you said it was restored. How do you know it's restored then? Did the seller tell you?

    I inherited the comic

I know it's restored because  I can absolutely see restoration on the cover,  I see plenty of spots where I can see some sort of color touch has been done specifically if you look at the $0.12 in the upper left corner you can clearly see 1/4 of the 12 cents has been colored in  and  is a bright white,  there's also multiple spots on the spine and around the staples that have been color touched but I don't know how or what was used in the color touch

on the back of the book too, where there are some tears, it looks like they've been put back together somehow
