  1. I have 2 books that I really should get the conservation removed but I am too "afeared" as they say.I had removed two tear seals on an internal page that did not affect the grade one way or the other but that is as far as I have gone with removal. Not saying I never will have color touch removed but I haven't yet. You are right about the difficulty to predict a grade after restoration removal. That is why I say they could put an "estimated" grade with their usual caveats about how their grades do not mean anything.
  2. Totally agree. CGC should state both grades on the green label and an "estimation" of the unrestored grade. That would help pricing restored books tremendously and would hopefully stop some of the wild variations I've seen in pricing.
  3. Dispatched to angry gargoyles to wrestling with Octopus
  4. There was an insane dislike for restored books among collectors waaayyy before CGC was even a pipe dream. I'm not sure how much the purple label played a factor with collectors who were around before CGC. Still, it is an interesting thought experiment: what if CGC had chosen green as the restored label and purple as the qualified? Would green be hated as much as the real life "purple label of death?" Green certainly does not seem to help the qualified books, currently, so
  5. Really disappointed I was stuck in OK and not in Dallas to see your collection. Absolutely stunning as always!
  6. That is really cool and cheered me up a bit! (Blondes do that to me. )
  7. The one that got away. I had consoled myself for missing the Dallas Collector's Summit this year by buying the last USA Comic I needed to complete my 6 through 17 run. Or at least I thought I did. They cashed my check back in November and told me that it would take a couple of weeks to clear; now MyComicShop tells me they sold the book to someone else and I bought it before they could remove it from their website. *&^&*%&@$#$$! Just heartbreaking. No real blame on Mycomicshop just looking for some shoulders to cry on.Do wish they had noticed it was sold before they cashed my check though.
  8. The slightly brittle book is a head scratcher. I bought this book raw through Heritage as a VG. I agreed that it was a VG and page quality was cream to off white (is that still a thing?) Read it with no flaking and did not notice any soft spots.
  9. I have one brittle book and one slightly brittle in my collection. This USA Comics #8 used to be G.A.tor's. I have not had it out of the slab but he told me it is still readable; it is the spine that is completely split throughout the book. I have no idea what this would sell for now.
  10. That has got to be a hard book to find in decent shape. That looks like a nice copy. Congratulations!
  11. I bought this one off the boards last year. I owned a copy back the mid to late 1980s but sold it along with the 4 and 5 to pay a medical bill. Price on it seemed to always out pace my earnings so it took me almost 30 years to get another copy. I'm hoping to get a number 4 as well but we'll see. The prices on Timelys are going up almost every day, it seems.
  12. This book was a Grail for me ever since I was a Tween flippin' through the Overstreet Price Guide.
  13. I managed to get this last year at the Dallas Collector's Summit.
