  1. A fool and his money are soon parted, to be sure. I overpaid badly for both of my high-grade Promise books, but that's not a big deal to me because I overpay badly for non-pedigree books all the time. I'm content with what I paid for my midgrade Promise book, though ($7,500 plus tax and shipping). I have no regrets about that purchase. In general, it seemed like the mid-grade books went for strong prices but not insane prices.
  2. Boxing with a fatty to boxing with a phantom.
  3. Dudes on a 7.0 white pager to gal on a Seven Seas white pager.
  4. I stopped following several books after the scans were posted. It seems like grading has gotten soft across the board—so I guess the Promise Collection was just a harbinger of things to come.
  5. Brunette being sprayed to duck being sprayed.
  6. Puppy scrubbing himself to puppy being buffed.
  7. Not among younger MCU fans. I left engineering about 15 years ago in order to work in education, and since then I have regularly worked with Millenials and now Zoomers. I never run into any who collect comic books, but I regularly chat with younger people who are fans of the movies. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Spider-Man get mentioned far more often than Captain America, whom the younger kids seem to find boring. Wolverine was popular among people my age (Gen-Xers) but there has never been that much awareness of the character among my students. It seems like there's always more of a focus on characters from recent movies, but even when the Avengers movies were all the rage, Captain America didn't seem to spark much interest. Deadpool doesn't get mentioned as much as he did when the movie came out, but even he would probably rank ahead of Captain America among the Millenials and Zoomers.
  8. Jumbo and scary to Jumbo and scary and furry.
  9. I'm not sure why you would trust their pressing not to damage your comic. Pressing often damages comics. Sometimes the spine even splits during a press. There is no guarantee.
  10. Diminutive green baddies to gargantuan green baddie.
  11. Green baddie partially shown to green baddie partially shown with other green baddies implied.
  12. Jr. with an ax to Sr. with an ax to grind.
  13. Junior on his own mag to Junior on a Master cover.
  14. Lash Lightning to a hero with a lightning bolt on his chest.
  15. Weird Comics to a very weird dude on Weird Horrors.
  16. Maybe she thought it would encourage him to run around with the kind of gal who kept a dagger in her garter belt (and it probably would have).
  17. As a kid, I always wanted to collect the CMA run so I could read that story start to finish.
