Ah, you meant when the story events are published out of sequence. While I agree that some people seem to have trouble with that, only release dates actually matter when defining firsts and that is already established, otherwise a ton of flashbacks would be acknowledged as first appearances.

For the purposes of this discussion, a preview is only pages from an upcoming issue that were published in advance as an advertisement, not anything that was called a preview but is really more of a prelude.

Not again! :censored: time warps. How far back did I travel this time?

I can't agree with covers being first appearances, especially in the age of variants.

Like your definition of preview better. I was just trying to give an example. Hopefully, an overstreet advisor uses it to define previews.

Sorry but it has been established a very long time ago that covers are part of the story. 1st appearance of a character (on the cover only) goes as far back as the Platinum age.  I agree with you that covers shouldn't be 1st appearances but I can't argue against 100 years of fact and consensus amongst comic book historians. Ultimately, comic book covers can be the 1st appearance of a character as it is part of the story.

  2. We wouldn't be talking about it if everything was straightforward. I don't want it to change but it has too. It is starting to confuse everyone especially new individuals to the hobby.

Example of #4 is Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 (Gambit cameo) Predates Uncanny X-Men #266 (1st Appearance of Gambit) / Avenging Spider-Man #9 (1st Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel) Predates Captain Marvel #1 (Note: Chronologically Captain Marvel #1 (2012) is first or the beginning of the story but was released after Avenging Spider-Man #9)

Above are 2 perfect examples on why some definitions (1st Appearance and/or related) need to be expanded or changed.

Make it clear to everyone with very little wiggle room for interpretation. For example: Ads are advertising .......... and cannot be a 1st appearance of a character as it not presented in the serialized or subsequent story in the form of a comic strip / Previews are a preview of a story ........ but can be 1st appearance of a character if the preview is an original story not reprinted or retold in the subsequent story / Cover Appearance is the appearance of character on the cover ..... and can be the 1st appearance of a character as the cover is presented as part of the story

  3. Some other notable issues

    Marvel Age #6 - Cloak & Dagger / Magik / Hawkeye

    Marvel Age #7 - Marvel Tails Preview (1st Spider-Ham ?)

Marvel Age #88 - Guardians of the Galaxy Preview (Old team)

    Marvel Age #89 - New Warriors #1 Preview (1st Night Thrasher ?)

Marvel Age #98 - Toxic Avenger Preview (1st Toxic Avenger ?)

    Marvel Age #100 - Sleepwalker #1 Preview (1st Sleepwalker ?)

    Marvel Age #102 - X-Force Preview (1st X-Force ?)

    Marvel Age #117 - Marvel 2009 Preview (1st 2099 characters ?)

    Marvel Age #138 - Cable & Deadpool

There are more issues with significance but I will write about those another time.  Feel free to verify the 1st appearances (Cameo or Predates) as they could be wrong.

  4. To clear up a few things.

Darker Image #1 is the 1st appearance  of Maxx if you didn't know.

From what I was told over 10 years ago that the Darker Image Ashcan distributed at conventions or comic cons had the sticker and direct marketing had no sticker sent to lcs (excess copies).

  5. #1 - 1st appearance of Patrick Mulligan

    #2 - 1st appearance of Toxin

    #3 - Toxin appearance

Note: #2 - Pat Mulligan is seen transforming into toxin, toxin is seen and the name "toxin" is given to the symbiote by Carnage or Venom (can't remember who)

This community has given 1st appearance status to other characters for even less reasons or evidence. Basically, #2 is the 1st appearance of Toxin.

  6. There are people on the boards who have said "confirmed" for a movie or tv show with even less evidence.  Its funny because if this was Kevin Keige this would not be an issue. Head of Fox X-Men films is telling you what they have planned in the future and that's not confirmation but Kevin Feige does the exact same thing and no one flinches. The same situation happened 3 years ago when Fox mentioned Gambit, New Mutants and X-Force movies planned in the future and same people who are now questioning me said 'confirmed".

  7. I have nothing against you.  I just don't need to back up every post when a simple search you can get the answers.   I did not name any specific issues, all I said is a good speculator would be buying X-Men comics right now and gave examples.   You can clearly see Fox has a plan to expand and that people  should ahead of the game. Hence, why Daken might be selling well right now and people anticipate him in future movies.   I don't need to talk about something that is hot that is your job, you have a thread (Transformers) dedicated just for that.

  8. Daken is returning to comics. Look it up.

With all the recent confirmation of X-Men properties and characters a good speculator would picking up everything X-Men related right now.  Just in the last week Mr. Sinister confirmed, Alpha Flight confirmed, Exiles confirmed, Blink confirmed & Dark Phoenix confirmed.  That's not even from what we already know like New Mutants, Gambit, Deadpool 2 (Cable & Domino), X-Men and X-Force. With Legion and the X-Men tv show confirming more X-Men characters to be added.  Hell, I just waiting for Fox now to announce X-Factor and Excalibur soon. lol

Thanks, any idea on the print run(s)?

I have issue 1,2,6 as well as what I've been told is an original hand-drawn and colored piece.  Out of the two people that I encountered whom owned these books, both had some direct connection to Blair himself, and have had them in their possession during the whole time.  This could explain why the ones I have are pretty beat-up...

    1. 500 copies

    2. 400 copies

    6. 200-300 copies
