  1. Kudo's to Artboy99 (Karl)

In a deal that almost stretched almost 1 year involving a lot of communications back & forth Karl & I finally closed the deal on a book that I have wanted for quite some time. cloud9.gif

I would like to thank Karl for his patience and time in working with me on a book that he could have sold elsewhere at almost any time.

Now I just need to have it re-holdered as the airmail journey from Canada to Australia caused a nice big crack in the case. Fortunately no damage to the book or inner well.

    Thanks mate. thumbsup2.gif

    Grats indeed Russ,

I will greatly miss the book, I loved taking it out of the dark closet to drool over.

Kudos to you for being persistent!

  2. In my early collecting days I had an Incredible Hulk #1 that today would have graded a solid 6.0 if i hadnt monkeyed with it. It had a slight wave to the book ( it didnt lie flat but the wave was extremely minor ) and some very minor color breaking stress marks on the spine. What made the book so nice was that it had absolutely no chipping on it which I know is less common. Without the wave I think it was solid 7.0 material.

    Here is what I did:

    1. took a colored marker and filled in the spine stresses to make it look better

    2. took the book to where I worked as a part time picture framer and put the book into the drymount heat press. Unfortunately I didnt do it as carefully as I should have and put a great big fold in the book at the bottom 3rd of the book!

I think that ranks higher than falling asleep on my FF #12.

    :P

If only I could have told that teenager to take care of his comics!

  3. The one that got away:

There was a comicshop in my home town that started bringing in high grade comics, and the owner brought in an Ironman #1 that was priced at 40$ ( mint price in overstreet that year was 40 dollars. I asked to see the book and agreed it was Mint as I literally couldnt find a thing wrong with it. it was perfectly centered and looked never touched.

I paid him 20 dollars and asked him to put it on hold for me until I got my paper money ( i was 16 at the time ).

I finally got the copy and took it home and opened the bag to take it out. I began to open the front but the front page had that "static stick to the cover like it has never been opened before feel" so Iput it back into the bag.

2 weeks later I brought it with me to a comic convention that was in town and had many interested parties that wanted to buy it. They all offered me top guide..which I of course turned down. One savy dealer offered me double guide for it. OMG what a quick turn around profit I thought and sold it.

What a dope I am. It now sits in a 9.8 cgc slab.
