There were definitely some impressive sales in the Baker auction, but many sold far less than I had expected. Many Baker romance that I would consider pretty scarce hammered for 50% or even less than my anticipated price. So we may look back and marvel at some of the record-breaking sales (Seven Seas 6 2.0), but others may realize that there were plenty of good bargains to be had on hard to find Bakers. If we were to post-mortem some of the results, I would say that the comics which exploded in price were the perceived iconic covers that appealed to the mainstream comic book collector as well as the avid Baker collector which drove more competition. The less iconic but equally scarce Bakers just didn't have that demand from the investor collector and thus stayed relatively affordable with a few exceptions. Either way, it was a fantastic auction and amazing to see so many Bakers. Congrats to Rick and Heritage for a great event!

George Gross is one of the greats. He does seem to very discreetly place his sig in most of his covers. -

I have always loved this wild torture cover. Just could never find the right copy. Perhaps my luck will change and I will be able to pick one up soon! -

Comics, Pulps, and Paperbacks: Why such a discrepancy in values?

So I consider myself a comic collector first - but I love good girl art covers so Matt Baker, Wally Wood and Jack Kamen are some of my favorites. But I also love Peter Driben, Enoch Bolles, George Gross and many others who did incredible covers for magazines, pulps and digest. I have stored most of my digests and crime mags and not taken a good look at them in about 10 years. Always fun to look through some of my past purchases. Glad many others have the same taste as me! -
