  1. interesting. I wonder how long before we see those dozen or so raws which make it to ebay. It may not be considered hidden outside this community, I can assure you it is not totally public information for most of the market. demand for unsigned copies of those could be HUGE! was the asm dell'otto 9.8 you were referring to the ss one here https://m.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN-800-CGCSS-9-8-1-200-DELL-OTTO-VIRGIN-COVER-SIGNED-BY-IMMONEN/163078083588 that one has the same white scuff defect I've seen on all the other copies so maybe they're giving it a pass.
  2. so somewhat similar to the v2 series where they kept the legacy numbering on the barcode but this time will do it on the actual trade dress below the new numbering? will this be considered Vol 5?
  3. so it's come to this now. ASM variants signed and tied to a grading company but possibly "hidden" raw stock released once the money has all been made? is that what I'm reading on here? and so much for quality. I just received an 800 Virgin dell'otto and it has the light white scuff mark at the mid left FC spine edge defect. I looked online and found this appears on every copy that has an actual photo. so much for distributor returns on defects. I wonder if cgc will give one a 9.8 and if all the cracked/resubbed competitor ss variants will get a green cgc label or a downgraded "name written on cover" label.
  4. Ugh I am so tired of this. Why is Marvel bothering doing a relaunch/reboot AGAIN? because of a new artist/writer taking over, because they made it to 800 issues after going through all that trouble justifying how the renumbering would work out, or just because that is the only way they are making money on comics? they could easily keep the numbering and pump out insane retailer incentive variants regardless of the numbering. you know they will do it all over again at issue 900 and especially 1000 like or worse than the action comics variants. why do they keep doing this over and over again? this is literally the definition of insanity or stupidity, not sure which.
  5. I was surprised by this as well when I got back into collecting but it would seem that the whole value in artist's art in comic titles has moved away from the comic issue and into the OA. Jim Lee's and McFarlane's OA are still in high demand regardless of the issue. If someone wanted to do the math and take the time you might be able to take the overall value lost in price per issue of X-men #248 (copies times peak value in grade) and see how closely it equals the price someone might expect to pay for the OA of X-Men #248 give or take a couple hundred thousand dollars. OA as a collector's focus has likely stripped a sizable chunk of the available economy and demand from the value of comics (especially for things like artist's first for a title or famous covers). Imagine if all OA was destroyed/unavailable and all you had were the comics? I have no facts to support this and I know there are OA only collectors that don't buy comics and vice versa but I'm sure it is affecting the demand/price paid for comics at some level whether past or present.
  6. I think some of the issues have more to do with whatever new printing machinery is being used. I just received a copy of one the 800 variants and like many from the last several issues there's been a 1/4" ink smudge streak on the back cover spine. this one also has a duller but wider 1/2" smudge on the left back cover edge directly across from the other smudge. those small non color break curved indents on the front cover which appear to be from their new gripper machinery apears to be occurring on the middle of the back cover as well. oh, and what is up with all the spine scuffs/pinhole tears near the middle of the spine or lower spine apex? despite these all being production related cgc is not giving them a pass like they did in the past.
  7. getting a 9.9 or 10.0 grades for really great looking 9.8s in 1 out of every 10 submissions?
  8. by that definition I guess that makes me....a semi-pro grader or enthusiast grader or hobbyist grader...
  9. Oooh! Man that's awesome. The use of a link to the photos makes much more sense. I'll try and set something up like that. That's pretty sophisticated. Great ideas. Thanks!
  10. Nice! Hey how do you have your cover pics in the cells? I've been thinking of doing this but not sure how it will distort the row sizing not to mention the file size. can you maybe post or pm a screenshot sample? I put my PQ in the grade column and descriptions but might be a good idea to separate them.
  11. excel spreadsheet. multiple tabs 1 run per tab columns are Box#, title, volume, issue #, grade, value, cost, description/grade notes, purchased from, census I have it synced to the cloud and accessible to my phone
  12. I see this as more of an inability to find owners of the books or inform owners of the demand for their books. I can also see that there may be cases where owners don't realize they own the book that is being sought and/or are too busy/lazy to dig through their massive stock to check. if a book did once exist but is so obscure and rare that any trace or record of it has been lost to time. So what we really need is a solution that allows you to broadcast your interest to EVERYONE globally. on the otherhand. does anyone know someone who refuses to sell for ANY amount of money?
  13. ...then again I guess some things haven't changed.
  14. does that site have a seller feedback system? I purchased books from 5 different sellers on there way back in 2008 when I was getting back into comics and on a buying spree. I recall being satisfied with 3 of the 5 orders. The 2 I had a problem with sent me books that were clearly not in the grade described. I reported the issue and was given a full refund on one and partial on the other. I stopped using them not soon after mainly due to how high each sellers shipping charge was costing compared to ebay and the fact that stock photos with a grade seemed to be the only option. Maybe things have changed since then.
  15. Very interesting theory. I thought you were going to refer to Stark''s simulated Virtual Reality hologram that he showcases in the opening of Civil War where he's young talking to his parents in a hologram on stage at MIT. maybe he could use that altered VR to trick Thanos in the next movie.
  16. I agree. I actually mistakenly skipped episodes 11 and 13 and wasn't until Negan showed up again back at the Sanctuary that I realized I had missed anything. I went back and watched episodes 11 and 13 and with the exception of the scene showing how Dwight made it back to the Sanctuary, the strange helicopter flare scene, and how Negan gets back to the Sanctuary, those episodes are useless. But in looking back, you could basically watch the mid-season premiere and the season finale and been fine. I get why Rick saves Negan and it does parallel the comic but this is one area I think they could have deviated from the comic and been fine. I'm ready for the story to move beyond the cycle of Ricks group finds temporary peace, Rick's group is forced to move on/does something stupid, Rick's group encounters another group, the other group becomes a threat, Rick's group has to fight to obtain temporary peace, rinse and repeat. Oh yeah and write something that explains why emaciated zombies with no jaw muscles or arm muscles or much of any flesh suffering from bone/tooth rot/decay/osteoporosis are still able to bite through denim, flanel, or even t-shirts equal to a bite force of a pit bull and rip flesh when a typical healthy person biting as hard as they can could barely do that even ignoring the jaw pain. Reality would be that most zombies would be immobilized after the first week of not consuming any fresh meat and would be reduced to wiggling gurgling lumps of flesh and bones. The ones that had eaten recently you could argue could continue to be mobile but without a regular source of calcium and regular dental hygiene maintenance would have lost most of their teeth by now with the rest being loosely attached. At best, the walkers attack would consist of them falling on you and their teeth crumbling out of their mouth along with their jawbone as soon as they tried to bite down resulting in them gumming at your appendages. I don't even know why I bother to watch the show or read the comics anymore.
  17. I have a bad feeling there will be more than a few collectors with a full or near full CGC 9.8 run trying to sell off their collection soon. Way I see it there's 2 types of buyers for these: 1. Wealthy WD fans looking to obtain an entire CGC 9.8 run all at once (and don't care about the variants, 9.9's or 10.0s) 2. Other like-minded collectors who are themselves looking to fill gaps in their WD CGC 9.8 run. I would look through the census and isolate all the copies that have the fewest copies in 9.8 and set them aside. I'd then go through the registry and see if there are any others with gaps in their WD 9.8 run. You'll probably get more for those and any of the keys. Set those aside. Depending on the timeline for when you need the cash you can try to test the market and waters and possibly save time and money by offering the entire run on ebay for what you'd want to get for it with a best offer with an auto-decline set for the lowest price you'd be willing to take for it. Keep in mind costs for shipping/insurance/fees. If you get lucky and someone buys it -WIN! If you get a bunch of offers you get info on what the current market is and can try to negotiate up from their offers or end the listing and list it in FB groups, instagram, or some other high visibility site with low fees - WIN! If you get a bunch of PM requests for individual issues (especially the non-keys), you now know which ones are higher in demand and to set those at prices above GPA if you need to sell in portions - WIN! However, if you're like a JGWentworth commercial and just need CASH NOW then you're going to have to shop it around to all the major venues, FB groups and likely end up either consigning it with an advance in payment, selling it to the highest offer, or let her rip on ebay no reserve auction and send out lots of ads on WD discussion group events sections. If you have to break it up, you're bound to get the most (GPA prices) for issues #1-50 and take a slight hit on 51-75, a bigger hit on 75-100, and likely near or just below slabbing costs for issues 101-171 since by then the print runs were higher, collectors were buying 9.8 copies or multiple copies to get 9.8's. GLWTS and if you can please come back and let us know what you ended up doing that worked for you.
  18. Actually, I think many mail order online comic shops will find that the expectation of grade IS a requirement to use their service. Otherwise, why would I use their online mail order sub service over someone elses or just go to an LCS? there are now more online mail order sub LCS than ever. some are very good (Midtown, UnknownComics) others are hit or miss (DCBS), and others are down right terrible (ComicXposure). If an online sub service wants to earn my business they have to offer me something comparable to what I can get at a LCS where employees check for damaged comics shipped from diamond, pull out the best copies for its subscribers, place the rest on the rack OR if all are damaged, return to diamond and request a new batch. another benefit of the LCS that online shops have to compete with is if I don't like the condition of my pull box copy I can go to the rack and find a copy in better condition. So yes, when 90% of the value of a modern after it is read is tied to its condition for grading, of course I expect the condition of the comic to come as MINTY as possible. I used DCBS for a year until I started receiving damaged comics and attempts to resolve wiht replacements or refunds were denied. I recommend the following shops for quality packing and customer service: Midtown UnknownComics My comicshop mutant beaver (canada) they have been very reliable with NM or better comics carefully shipped. most are NM+/MT. they always pack them extremely well. they do sometimes ship a damaged comic. Why i keep using them is each time I received a damaged comic or had an issue with the order they were quick to respond and resolve with either a new copy in better condition, an order adjustment, or a refund. they are also diligent about updates for pre orders and notifying you if a batch of comics they received was bad and had to be reordered. In other words, they understand their customers expect and deserve a comic as close to NM/MT as possible and work to provide it.
  19. at the risk of sounding like a noob, cause I am and haven't played a serious game in a while I'm dying to ask: what happens once all properties are bought up but no one owns a monopoly of any of the same colored spaces? Do players start negotiating trades with cash incentives? do people start merging and consolidate wealth and properties? what happens if no one can agree on a trade/exchange?
  20. I think WD #1 and the keys from issues 1-20 especially characters that are still alive will retain some sort of a floor but the show lost a ton of viewers once They lost me a season ago but I found that my DVR had recorded this last season. I tried watching it again and saw 3 episodes. For a bit I thought I was getting back into it but then realized my DVR had missed recording 2-3 episodes in between and what I thought was the show speeding up with back to back action episodes was actually the fact that I had skipped 2 or 3 episodes of boring content barely relevant to the progression of the show. And that's the issue with the show. They just drag it out. Maybe someday someone will put together an episode guide like they did with Star Wars, that lists which episodes to watch and which to avoid with a 1 liner describing the only 1 or 2 bits of relevant info in the excluded episodes. Don't forget, there's typically been a dip in sales prices between the seasons with a rise in prices once the new season starts. One of the WD threads here has a trend line showing this or maybe just look it up in GPA. I think it'll always be at least a $1k book. The 9.8 Black label may even always be a $2k book. Not sure about the 9.9's. But if you bought it at $2k or more and were expecting it to keep going you may be disappointed. As for the other issues in 1-100, the time to sell may have already passed. Not sure what the going rate is for NM raw but at one point it used to be $20/issue for non-key raws from issue 50 and below. Might be more of a buyers market now. I don't know, maybe if somehow the writing and tempo got way better or they decided to release a movie where a huge reveal in the origin of the zombie disease or hunt for a cure was progressed, you might see a spike again.
  21. Nor is it a substitute for describing the condition of the comic. UNREAD tells me nothing about the comic other than the book was never opened for reading but could have so much else done to it. When I see this in a listing I feel it's a coverup for so many other things that could be wrong with the book. I've received more than my fair share of "unread" but ...(insert obvious flaw here) I wish these sellers would save us both time and shipping and include any additional relevant information regarding the comic's condition after the words "UNREAD" such as this: "UNREAD, but has a bunch of color break spine creases from being bent over the comic display rack (or half filled comic box) all month" "UNREAD, but extremely manhandled by the store employee when pulling it out fo the Diamond box leaving color break finger bends" "UNREAD, but beat to hell by Diamond packing/shipping" "UNREAD, and covered with printing ink rub defects" "UNREAD, and with a blunted corner from when I dropped it while trying to insert/remove from the bag/board" "Brand New and UNREAD, and I may not be a professional grader but even I can tell this would not have a snowballs chance in hell of getting a 9.8 even during a loose CGC grading period" "Brand New and UNREAD, and ungraded as it was a CGC pre-screen 9.8 reject but why don't you try" It's annoying seeing this all the time but I choose to only buy from sellers who are willing to send me clear front and back cover photos or scans of the comic anyway. If they don't respond or can't be bothered to do that then it's a pass for me. Sorry to momentarily derail the cool Spinal Tap references, but my point is it's such a fine line between stupid, and uh...
  22. it tends to happen a lot with govt contracting where the cleared personnel or software developers are a significant portion of the intellectual asset. they arent necessarily sold but in many cases to encourage them to remain with the new company the key personnel are given raises, bonuses or contracts. in voldys case the trained and knowledgeable grading, restoration, and pressing, would be the key personnel Beckett would want to try and maintain, unless beckett has already been hiring and training their own resources. some of the other assets that could have been sold: real estate property, unless Voldy rented their space. encapsulation machines encapsulation supplies pressing machines grading/restoration tools voldys slab database of graded comics, notes, and cert numbers Web domain and of course the name or licensing I suppose much of that could be just liquidated if Beckett already has a setup grading vault in Texas and doesn't plan on maintaining the name.
