  3. Hello everyone,

kinda heartbroken about this one thought I had a solid 9.0-9.2 raw copy but dropped it last night putting it in a bag and board and cause a 1/4 tear in back cover. I don’t know how cgc will grade it now. Front cover is gorgeous. Minimal spine wear deep color and back cover was flawless until last night. 2278B02B-8D22-4B8E-A89A-265A49A42606.thumb.jpeg.b4e0c55f2eace3d5e8e6db4869e3be6a.jpegE62F7D77-4D34-4CF6-8EA5-A5D3A58F3967.thumb.jpeg.3fa225eb33a52b85bb8d57d14ded38e0.jpeg

I agree with nmtg9 that the "pence first" idea is just a theory at this point, but I don't think it's important. The thing to remember with these is that the only difference is on the cover, even with the early L. Miller & Thorpe & Porter indicia changes, and that the interiors were all printed at the same time together. What order the covers were printed in is immaterial, really when you consider that the other 30-odd pages all came from the same pile.

Yes, colossus is awesome!, they are exactly the same as the 35 cent variants. In fact, many of the comics that were released in 35 cent variants also had pence variants in the same run.

A good question. I can only guess at an answer, but I suggest that most people prefer the more common cents covers because they simply don't know about (or know enough about) the pence variants. Speaking as someone with a foot on both sides of the pond, I like the added dimension these variants add to the hobby. I think the number of pence collectors will always be smaller than the number of regular cents collectors, but I've seen a real uptick in interest lately. I also think for very high grade key issues, the scarcity of pence covers can only drive prices up, eventually.

That's super interesting. I don't know to much about the bronze age pence I feel like I never see those lol. thanks for the input. Yea agree about the pence high grade covers for example I know in Hulk 1 the highest graded pence thus far is a 7.5 to the 9.4 cent copy. I know its harder to get a high grade pence just because there are way less out there.

That they were printed first is still just a theory I think.

Too many collectors stateside see them as inferior in some way. Which is fine by me, cheaper to buy for me.

My dad bought a 9d Amazing Fantasy 15 from a newsagents back in 1962 and set us out on this crazy journey that still continues for me today. :headbang:

That's crazy!! I would agree most people state side do feel they are somewhat inferior to the cent copy, but then their people like me who feel like they should fetch more that the cent. Thanks for your input!!

After looking at all the copies on eBay, there is definitely one spot of black CT bleed you can see just below the top staple.  Beyond that, I cannot tell if there are more.

Looks way better than a 4.5 super clean book. Correct me if I'm wrong, but typical the C stands for amateur so most like with the back it bleeds through the cover and onto the splash page. So I dont think it would be a good candidate for CCS. So the only way to remove that would be defacing the color spots on cover and removing paper with the touch entirely. The 1 would indicate very slight so i would think its only in one spot maybe two Iv'e had C-3 with just color touch and it was multiple color touches all along the spine. The grader notes did say multiple color touch spots at spine. ink bleeds through cover ect.  Or something along those line,.

I agree and wonder the same things.  I don't think there is evidence that the pence books where printed first .  I do think it will turn and pence copes will be more valuable because of rarity.

Thanks for your input. Yeah it was always mind boggling to me. I cant remember were exactly i read that, but I guess theory is because they printed the pence copies strictly limited they cam off the press first and the few pence copies out there have fewer marvel chipping from the blades being dull and or ink on cover seems to be brighter. But again there isnt a huge number of pence copies to look at were there is gorgeous cent copies with bright color and no chipping as well. So i can see that definitely being skewed a bit.
