  1. the difference between comics and original art is....

the comic that came from, x-factor 70, is pretty much unsellable on ebay at any price, in part due to shipping costs

whereas pretty much any decent marvel page, even from the 90s, is going to get at least $10 + the cost of shipping

and probably more than $10 if it has a popular character in it (e.g., wolverine) doing anything interesting and if it's done by a popular artist

i can't tell from overstreet who did the art on #70

it's going to depend on the artist and what's going on in the page

people sitting around talking -- low bucks

a page featuring wolverine slicing up a bunch of baddies gets better bucks

  2. so, between the two you paid what, $1.50, $1.75 a book? Not bad if you plugged in some holes you were looking to plug with high grades. the 12 and 15 centers were crusty i presume, but how were the 20 and 25 centers?

Some of the charlton stuff is just terrible, but some not so bad. Don't know about your run, but there were some cool covers on some of Charlton's 70s horror/monster comics.

  3. that subbie 17 is the only timely i have, at least of the big names like cap, torch, etc. maybe i have others that i don't know are timelys, but not in slabs. looking at some of those great covers here it's a bit tame in comparison.

there's a reason why even in terrible condition these are expensive (in guide and market)

you can get some beat to heck DCs from the WWII era for not so much money sometimes, as well as fawcetts, not so with timelys.

  4. so you paid $75 for a slabbed VG variant or $180 + 50% ($270?)?

i see darthdiesel slabs the mid and low grades.

darth, is there a reason? are people worried about "fake" variants?

    just curious.

i vaguely remember seeing a slabbed VF variant go in the mid/high $200s a couple of months ago.

  5. I paid the 2004 OPG variant price in fine ($50, i think), not the regular issue price ($30 something)

Not something I usually do, but on this issue I made an exception.

Do you still think a Fine variant goes for what a 9.0 is listed at for the variant issue in OPG ($182)?

If so, does slabbing a mid-grade issue like this make any sense? Is the $180whatever dependent on a slabbing? A good scan ought to give people a good idea of the grade. I only ask because I've seen some of these variants in low grade slabbed and I don't understand why.

If I can triple my money it may make sense to move it. It would make my wife happy, give her the impression that I can actually turn a profit on the comics every once in a while (so long as she doesn't chase after my 10,000 other treasures!)

  6. y'all being experts and all on this, did i lose my mind when I paid 2004 OPG guide or slightly under for a 30 cent x-men 100 variant in maybe Fine/Fine+? If I intend to resell (which I'm not sure I do), should it make a difference in that grade whether it's slabbed and, if so, would it really matter if it's CGC or one of the (cheaper) others?

i see there's one up right now, but no ebay history for the last 30 days on that book. the current seller must think it's a big deal because he paid for a featured listing.

given that it's a book i'd want, variant or not, i figure it's no big deal (my other x-men 100 is very beat to heck), but had i been buying the regular version in mid-grade i certainly would have shot for a better discount or passed on the book.

any idea what the market on this book is in that grade?
