  1. right. I don't think these folks have a problem creating a character that is going to exist in the Xmen universe or as a spidey villain or whatever. they will make money and the character may not really have a lot of value outside a marvel property, unlike spawn, which is going to live in its own world.
  2. If they are going to create, they just need to get paid accordingly, that's all. Not like they own it, sure, but a premium.
  3. seriously, I can do a cover that bad, probably better
  4. The FF 52 is like a $200-250 book? The ASM 28 a little less, the TOD $150-$200, the ASM 41 is maybe $75-100..the others are not that expensive in that shape, maybe add up to $75-100? ...How is that adding up to $6-7,000 AUD? ($4K+ USA) You guys do have mail and it's not like shipping a few comics will cost $2,000....
  5. seriously, there have been what, like 3 or 4 pretend thors granted thor-like powers? why not a lady? as for the variants...I am not against them per se, although there do seem to be too many, but when it's just a different not all that interesting cover, what's the point? Here's one...really boring, ho hum art, why do we need this? Want to do a "hot artist" Campbell, Hughes, Ross, Deldottio or whatever cover? Fine. But what is special about this? It's not even visually appealing. There are so many artists out there capable of producing a "wow" cover, why do we get this? (Admittedly, maybe a "wow" cover makes no sense for a book that will sell 2,500 copies, I dunno)
  6. You are misremembering (at least according to my 3 minutes of google research). Overkill was changed because Hasbro already had an overkill toy and I guess MacFarlane was partnering with Hasbro. Mcfarlane made the bedrock change because he was worried about a lawsuit because a Flintstones movie was coming. He had not been threatened. Also, names do get more trademark protection than a vaguely familiar looking image, true. The bedrock change was nonsensical. I have no idea how there could be any likelihood of confusion
  7. these new characters/retconned characters do not make trademark/copyright monopolies anymore. The captain marvel/superman lawsuit would have been a sure loser today. Seriously, if deadpool did not warrant an infringement lawsuit then nothing will.
  8. Are you sure your standards are not higher now? I watch movies from the 80s I thought were great movies and now they seem like krapola . We watched scarface the other day. It is full of a lot of bad acting (from good actors) and characters that are not credible. The dialogue in footloose was embarrassing. Both movies I thought were awesome back then.
  9. Romita did the cover. How do we know when he started it and how much Of the visual ideas were his?
  10. I don't have a problem with any of those covers. Sal buscema was allowed to produce horrible covers on peter Parker for a decade. These are trying to be a little different/artistic. Ms. Marvel is done in a slightly more cartoony style. I think it is aimed for a younger appeal. Also, Dunno if market research says women don't mind that style? With that said I don't like that stuff on my spidey books. Ramos, bleach. But I kind of do line skottie young covers, wouldn't want a book of his insides though. Powell works on monsters, wouldn't want him on x-men...
  11. As for dislike of attempts to make the comics more diverse... We don't live in a world that is 80% white and male and 100% straight, so why wouldn't comics be reflective of the world or at least the USA? Which characters have been retrofitted? She-thor was a temporary thing, right? Isn't Nick fury junior how they added melatonin in the comics? (Outside ultimate worlds) are we mad that alternate universes have alternate brown versions? Danvers Ms. Marvel keeping that name seems silly in the 2000s. As for gay characters and story arcs, again, 5% or more of the population, but i get that this may not makes sense if comics are meant for a 6 - 86 type readership. Admittedly, confusing for a young kid. Although both my kids were not confused on this topic as of age 4 given two sets of neighbors on our block, including two moms of my youngests' best buddies. Many kids do not have that to put things in context though. Otoh, are most comics now PG-13 with the advent of the younger readers lines? I just remember the letters section in FF 54 or 55. Some people were not happy either. Thanks Stan and Jack for not worrying about that so much.
  12. The main problem for an old fart is jumping in and understanding what the heck is going on as stories jump from title to title. It might explain why a title like walking dead has a core readership. You can follow the plot. And no dang reboots. I don't think comics today are worse than in the 70s through 90s. Some 70s and 80s books were horrible.
  13. Charlton just had a tough time ever getting a title with a cast of characters to survive. I guess some of the monster books had a host, but weren't the war books all solo stories? Their tv show comics failed and even stuff like e-man, which was not bad, failed. I think they had odd distribution? We'd get them on a road trip in the middle of nowhere, but I never saw them on a newsstand (and most still had comics when I was young)
  14. A bit shocked that issue does not sell for a premium.
  15. I don't think they are charging more. It's some sort of status award I think, dunno how you qualify. But a guy like greg Reece does not have it, so that seems silly to me.
  16. He returned it. I can see where he sliced into the top of the comic bag while opening the cardboard sandwich. The gemini mailer it came in was undamaged. It is obvious what happened. It does not take Sherlock Holmes, although I have great powers of deduction. Shockingly I put it up for auction with the damage and it is almost at the prior sales price. Go figure. I guess I gave in too easily on the best offer.
  17. There were quadrlions of them when they came out. I think they came free with some newspapers. I see less now, possibly because they fall apart easily?
  18. I had a lot of interest in the copy I had up in the $10-13 range. I think I had it at $18. I have others so I took $13.
  19. If you had the pages of the thanos copter I would be all over that
  20. All restaurants there. I went on once, rummaged around, saw nothing of interest. Probably just ignored the overpriced wall books. Never came back. Is Jim Henley next? Last time I was there the owner or manager was talking pretty loud about probably having to close the midtown location due to rent.
  21. It is pretty cold right now, 8-10 hours and 7-10 miles of walking might be a brute. I walked home from wall street to the 70s for fun once, but the weather was nice.
  22. You could walk Manhattan from shop to shop and see Manhattan in the process. Good for a trip April through October. Not so much now, it's freezing.
  23. A credible mcfarlane Sig seems to add $10-30 to a book. I see his son selling signed books and those are getting an extra $80++ but they come with pics of him signing the book and more, so there is little doubt. So in terms of value you are not giving away a lot chopping these up unless there is a tragedy and he dies young.
