In the past there is a concession stand in the hall that has been open.  It won't be a life altering culinary experience, but it will keep you from starving.  I'll also be bringing a good run of early Spawn. Pretty much a complete run from 1 to 50.

Sounds good.  I'll have to remind him to bring his list.  Last time we did this, he forgot and tried to remember by how the covers look.  With Spawn, that's nearly impossible.  The show is a week after his birthday, so I'm hoping he's flush with cash so he can take advantage of all the offerings over there.

  2. Bought tickets sight unseen because of the first line.  My nephew will be with me, and he'll be deep diving in those comic boxes.  His primary focus is Spawn.  Any dealers there going to have some Spawn on hand?

P.S. The website needs a little work.  Some links still go to past shows.  One last question: any food vendors?

  3. There wasn't enough happening to fill three days for the 2017 one.  Stan Lee was added last minute because WW screwed the pooch again with lack of advertising and ticket sales were presumably dismal, especially after Charlie Sheen dropped out.   So many unhappy  Stan Lee package buyers who spent big bucks because that was the "only" way to guarantee a Stan signature or picture, only to have them opened to general public early on in the show.  The only benefit was a shorter line for the VIP buyers.

The number of vendors was down to less than half of what I've seen at the other two previous Des Moines conventions.  I can't remember one, not one, comic book vendor in the entire place. There were comic book shops represented in the artist's alley area, but they weren't allowed to sell.  If I were in the market for fidget spinners, though, it would've been heaven.  Many of the vendors said they were contacted by WW last-minute in an effort to fill the place. What WW doesn't understand is people in smaller cities like Des Moines WILL spend a lot of money at their shows if they do it right and not treat it like an afterthought.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer about this particular event, but I look forward to this "hometown" show and it's gotten progressively worse each year.  I thought they were going to take a hiatus after the dropoff they experienced Year 2; you know, in an effort to make us long for what we were missing.

Got mine Cgc'd ;)  I could see it being tough to get tho. He had some of the longest lines iv'e ever seen at a convention.

Color me jealous.  I absolutely LOVE that photo.  The photo I got signed was the younger Luke as shown here with C-3PO - 11x14, signed by both Hamill and Daniels.  I'm probably going to have the Star Wars 1 action figure variant signed (he has two other action figure variants I might have to consider as well if this is his last gig).

And, yes, the line was ridiculous.

  5. Lucky enough to meet him at Star Wars Celebration 2017, along with many others.  I was dumb and didn't do CGC comics for any of them, just signed photos.  Trying to rectify that with help from boardies.

  6. Yeah, this was a bit of a shocker.  Even though it rained intermittently during this year's, it was still a lot of fun and weather didn't matter one single bit once you're inside.  Treacherous roads due to snow/ice would be the only thing to keep most people away for those February dates.  2018 is the 20th Anniversary, so I'll be there even if I have to drive down in a sleigh.

I'm very excited about this next one----I pretty much count Matt Wagner's MAGE: The Hero Discovered amongst the top echelon of some of the best comic book series out there in the last 40 years.  I was fortunate enough to discover this title in 1986 just as it was wrapping up, and just binged the whole series.

Over the years I've had the pleasure of getting to know Matt from over 30 years of conventions (ouch) and consider him a friend and one of the top talents out there today.

Three decades after Hero Discovered----more than 15 years after Hero Denied----Matt is bringing his Mage trilogy to a close.

MAGE: The Hero Denied #0 s/s Matt Wagner - $125  (if we're lucky, I can probably get Matt to do a remark on these---great white canvas!)

Lmt. qty, fifteen (15) spots to start

I've known Dan at Scott's Collectables UK for some years now from business dealings and trips to the UK. Congratulations Dan on the birth of your new daughter! I'm happy to partner up with him and bring this SS opportunity to the boards!

I have ten copies of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story #2 Phil Noto cover available that have been pre-screened 9.8 - If you are interested in one they are an additional $20 each which brings your all-in total to $195 shipped. These books have been not been evaluated by CGC yet but I have personally pre-screened them as 9.8 candidates. If you order one of these and it fails to come back 9.8 you can have your money back.

    (10 Available) 5 LEFT!
