  1. Well the reason I asked these questions is that.

People, who don't know, think that "Polybagged version" is somehow worth more than the non-Polybagged version based on what I can see from eBay sales even though they were all polybagged.

The ones that are labeled "Polybag" seem to fetch more money which shouldn't really be the case (In the case of Spider-man #1 McFarlane.. yes but not in this case).

    No.

You shouldn't care about anything CGC puts on the label that doesn't serve to properly identify the item, other than their grade.

Next time, choose a name that doesn't make me hungry!

Interesting. I haven't done a Fast Track in a while because of the the increased actual TATs. What do you guess is the threshold for what would be considered a "small batch"?

Looks like I'm getting the one day treatment. Awesome!!

I'm not sure but I think closer to submitting double digit (ten or more) count would increase the probability of delaying it. I think 6-8 is safe.

More detail since people seem to be interested in this.

    Shipped 2/22 - Delivered 2/24

    Received 3/21 - In Processed 3/21 - Scheduled for Grading 3/21 - Grading/Encapsulation/Imaging 3/22 - Quality Control 3/22

It looks like if the submission count is low they go immediately to grading the book because as soon as they opened the package they went to work on grading it.

I'll be getting my book back in about a month + a week and most of the time was spent just waiting for them to open the package.

My feelings exactly.  It wasn't long ago I was spot on with grades, and now I can't believe what I get back.  We are paying more now, for lower quality grading.  I'm seeing grader notes "light spine stress" and looking at a spine that is smoother than smooth. I have another book with no spine stresses noted and there are multiple obvious stresses (which by the way were NOT there when I sent the book in) and it's a 9.6.   I also bought a CGC 9.8 book recently that shouldn't have graded a 6.0.  3 corners were all sorts of bent (no damage to case which means they let it slide). <--- Stuff like this makes me think bigger retailers get preferential grades.

Not trying to make an excuse for CGC's poor grading but... they do state that even if the comic book is cased in the slab, it doesn't prevent the comic from being damaged while inside the slab. I know from experience that if you shake a slabbed comic book vigorously enough that the comic book will move inside the slab and hit the inner wells and damage the book.

Some people call it shaken comic syndrome (SCS).

It is true. CGC stupidly making multiple entries for the exact same thing doesn't change that. Also, the notes can change over time, so if you see multiple slabs that were graded at different times, they won't necessarily have the same notes.

    Yes.

Again, CGC does stupid things sometimes (far too often, frankly). Being inconsistent is the only thing they do consistently.

Hate to do this again but... it's not the timing... as you know that the certificate numbers are sequential (higher the number the more recent the submission)

    3893111023 Grade Date: 12/01/2021 - Poly-bagged Edition

3989814009 Grade Date: 01/17/2022 - No mention of Polybag

If what you say is true then shouldn't the one that was graded more recently have the polybag notes also if the one that was graded before had it?

This leads me to believe that if you do not submit the book in the polybag then you won't get the "Poly-bagged edition" or "polybag removed" on the label.

Stuff like "Poly-bag removed." that appears on the right side of the label is part of the entry for that issue in CGC's system. It has nothing to do with any individual copy.

That can't be true otherwise this wouldn't happen.

Same books and one has "Polybag removed" one doesn't.

And from my understanding all 1st prints of this book were polybagged.  What would make CGC say one is a polybagged version and the other one isn't on the label? Seems really inconsistent to me. Did they only label the ones they received in a polybag "Polybag edition"?

  6. Question 1.

If I submit a book that was originally polybagged but pulled out of the bag will CGC not put "polybag version" on the label? Particularly in the case of Todd McFarlane's Spider-man #1, the polybag version does not have a price on it and it's obvious it's the polybag version but will they note that in the label if you remove it from the bag?

    Question 2.

In cases where it's obvious that the book was originally in a polybag (like in example stated in question 1) will they write "polybag removed" on the label if the item was removed from the bag and sent to CGC or will they only write that if CGC removes it from the bag.

I'm asking because I have some comic books that are in need of pressing due to the "polybag crease" that resulted over time and I don't feel like having CCS press that book because it will add months to the delay.

  7. I have a related question.

I really want to remove my book from the polybag and press the book myself (because CGC will take forever if I get them to do it) before I send it in to CGC but for some comics the label makes a distinction between a "polybag" edition and regular edition. So here are my questions.

    1. If I remove the polybag myself then will it get the "Poly-bag removed" text on the label or does it only stay that if CGC removes the polybag bag for me?

    2. If I remove the polybag then will CGC label it so that it says Poly-bagged edition, or do they only do that if CGC removes the bag? In case of Spider-man #1 (1990) I know there is a difference between the Polybag edition and regular edition (the polybag edition doesn't have a price) but would CGC label it Poly-bagged edition if they don't open the bag themselves?

Unrelated question but does anyone know if you can tell the difference between polybag version and regular version of Web of Spiderman 90 other than the polybag?

  8. My book finally shipped today. (Day after my birthday.  Nice birthday gift!!)

With the exception of few lottery winners who got their slow modern graded super fast, it seems like it is first in first out (FIFO). I submitted my books in July and was marked received 8/29 and a few weeks after people who posted they got their books shipped and their books were received 8/14ish, I got mine shipped.

And they were all graded 9.8 so I'm pretty stoked!!!

So if your books were marked received around 8/29ish.. you should be getting your books soon..

Even if everyone complains... we all know it...

It won't stop the submissions... because when you can take a modern book you bought for $20-30 bucks and get it graded at 9.8 and turn it into 200-300 bucks... there's just too much money to be made for people to quit this...

This is good.. mine was received 8/29 so I might be few weeks away from getting mine shipped.

  11. I think everyone should start posting the submission numbers when there is a change in status along with tier (modern, express, economy, fast track).

The submission numbers seem sequential and some of us might be able to use it to see how many submissions are before ours.  Kinda like taking a number at the DMV.

(Although it seems there are people who are "cutting" in front of the line)

My submission number is #3916975 Received 8/29/21 currently at SFG.

I think I saw that submission #38XXXXX are being shipped now.

Sampling of mine.  The June 14th has been in G/E/I since Sept 17

    image.thumb.png.b9ee2e1daf60efb7fdc3b67b7169baad.png

The 10/25 actually arrived at CGC early in Sept. Part one went direct to shipped, never any other status. Part two was in received from 10/25 to 11/5 then direct to ship.

While I'm extremely glad to have those 10/25 books back, I would have greatly preferred if my June 14th received order stuck in G/E/I  was processed through - It's some seriously messed-up nonsense.

Yeah this is what I'm talking about. I have a slow modern shipment that was received 8/31 and it's still SFG and your submission slow modern like mine got received on 10/25 and it got shipped already.  This is definitely not first come first serve.

  13. It looks like they're shipping books that they marked as "received" in June.  Mine was marked received on 8/29 (even though USPS delivered it in early July).  I probably have about 2 or more months worth of waiting so I'm guessing I'll get my books back in February if I'm lucky.

  14. I'm hearing stories from people that submitted after me without fast track getting their books back within like couple months and my books that I shipped in July and CGC opened in August are still in SFG as of today... IF this is true obviously I'm going to be upset over this... I thought it was first come first serve for same service level items?
