  1. There is a forum (Hey buddy, can you spare a grade) where you can post and get opinions on what people think it will grade if submitted. Post big pictures of front, back, and corners for best results. Your bottom right corner looks pretty good, the top right is just a little rounded, and it looks like a spine tic that breaks color to the left of spidey's shoulder under the price. Very nice copy.
  2. don't know about the registration issue, but it seems production related flaws are not counted against. Corners are good. A few spine tics on the front and one on the back. I'd say (9.2-9.4) if the registration counts as a production issue. It probably would affect a sale though, if you tried to upgrade copies. nice FMJ reference.
  3. On the back, in the scan it looks like a color break spine bend near the 'Agent 13' but in the pics it looks like a bend, no color break. Little bit of color wear on the bottom front right. Spine corners are a littl rounded. Other than that, I don't see spine tics on the front (maybe a small second one on the back under the bend/crease one), and the non spine corners look good. I'd give it: (8.0) (scroll over) as is, and maybe get a bump from pressing. I can't say the last part with authority though
  4. Looks like some spine tics and the sun shadow, some some bends on the back, plus rounded corners. Is there a crease across the R and E in Adventures? Great color, pretty white on the back where there's no shadow. I would guess a (6.5 ) (scroll over). Wouldn't mind a better shot of the top front, just to see if the edge is clean or has some tears/creases. If that isn't a crease, bump it .5
  5. I'll pm you the quoted exchange, but that's the jist of it. You make your best assessment of raw, and they'll give you a heads up if you were underestimating.
  6. I went ahead and asked when I subbed my first box. They want the tier you choose based on your best assessment of what you think it is raw, and then if it is over the valuation limit you specified, they will either check with you, or you can leave a note in the box that any over X amount be graded at Y tier (which I promptly forgot to do). I have some delusions of 9.9 or 10 on a couple of books of mine (mostly chromium covers as they seems to hold up better), so I checked being the optimist that I am (sarcasm).
  7. I wish I could claim such depth of knowledge, but I just pulled it out of my apse
  8. It's a real shame we find ways to ruin other people's days. If that were to happen to me, Peter David and John Byrne would have a few extra comic books, because I would've left them at the table and told them I didn't want them anymore.
  9. Yep. There is a natural effect in collectibles that lends to continually looking for the rare or different. Exclusivity is part and parcel of it. 'Oh, you have IH 181? Well, I have IH 180 where Wolverine really shows up'. 'Oh yeah, well I have Ludicrous Comic #72, where a guy who loks like a guy who looks like Wolverine is silhouetted, which turns out to be Wolverine in disguise!'
  10. Kingpin is awesome, but he's more a daredevil/punisher foe.
  11. Working backwards, I agree that being a creator, you want interactions with everyone to be positive. In fact, I think that should be the goal for all people in every interaction and everyone thinking so would go a long way to solving a lot of strife, not just in the comic world. And if a comic creator expressed verbal appreciation, why is that insufficient? 'Hey, thank you for liking my work, it means a lot to me' - is that equivalent to signing for free? If not, why not? That I agree with wholeheartedly. As I said in one of my earlier posts, it surprises me how judgmental creators are over what makes someone else happy. It hurts no one to sign in a window, and the world is a tough enough place, making up reasons to be dissatisfied with someone else's way of finding joy seems like it's just adding unhappiness to the world. WHo cares? Someone likes you enough to write your name, to the point they are willing to pay money. You need to disdain this why?
  12. Why does the creator owe their fans?
  13. Found some at a walmart around town. I don't know if it's consistent, but in the Spuergirl pack I picked up was a Harley Quinn 11 and Superman 34. The DC packs aren't bad (has a backer board), but he marvel ones are in rough shape. Picked up the Radioactive Spider Gwen, with a reprint of Wolverine Old Man Logan 1 and a Chewbacca. No Super Sons. On the ad/backer board, there is no Super Sons pack shown. I passed on Champions, Suicide Squad, and the Detective Comics one. Should I go back? Also, the Marvel ones were tagged at $9.98, but rang up at $5 even, same as DC. Also oddly enough, it rang up as a 4 pack but had 3 comics.
  14. We're on the same page I think. I'll probably just keep it raw since pressing doesn't make sense and slabbing without pressing doesn't make sense either. Thanks
  15. I can't tell if it breaks color either, but it's definitely a crease. It was folded over and stored like that for years. If a press can't get rid of it or the spine ticks, I think you're right that it wouldn't be worth it. Also, the corner on the cover seem good to me, but they don't line up with the pages, which I think give the non-spine side a rounder look in the photos.
  16. Thanks. Think a press will help/be worthwhile?
  17. Pics are a bit tight all around, can you get some from a little further away? The top back corner looks like a wrinkle, but it's hard to tell with the white on white. Also looks like there's a mark/color break near the bottom staple on the back. I think (9.4) (scroll over) barring anything that can't be seen by pic.
  18. Agree, but to be fair, if your friend really loved Sam Keith, he wouldn't make him write his name 35 times.
  19. First, thank to the advent of grading, your signed comics aren't worth as much as they would be had they been witnessed and submitted. That's not to say they're worthless, but they are worth less (than slabbed ones). Second, the first step is to get an idea of what you have. Titles and issue runs. Third, you have to research those runs to find the key comic books. This can be difficult as there are some with variant covers that are worth a lot , but the regular covers aren't, yet distinguishing these may be confusing in your research. Fourth, you have to develop an eye for assessing their condition. The books that were printed in the 80s+ pretty much have to be near perfect to be worth submitting for grading (with a small handful of exceptions). It is more than likely that as a novice, one tends to assume better condition than they really are. There are a multitude of nearly imperceptible imperfections that can derail a Modern (late 80s/90+) to the point where it's not worth grading. If you have older comics, Bronze, Silver, or Golden Age, they can still be profitable in less than perfect condition. Fifth, it costs a lot of money to grade comics. You should check the sold listings for graded comics (slabbed) and non-graded comics (raw). Often, by the time you count the costs of grading, the raw price is close enough to make it not worth the effort.
  20. Another prompt payment/good communication happy seller
  21. I'm the opposite . GG really fits Spider-Man better tonally, but Venom is definitely a deadlier foe, with the spider-sense blindness. And he's a perversion of Spiderr-Man, kind of a mirror. I agree Carnage is just doubly derivative.
  22. I'd give it a (2.5-3.0) scroll over to see. Nice book, just a lot of stains. Use a napkin fer cryin' out loud
