Very nice copy. I like the nice, even wrap even with the white line.

Hey, check out this one auction. Bats 227 WITHOUT the cover

The census for #227 is quite revealing, I wonder why the amount of graded copies is so low. Compared to, say, #232 there is only a miniscule amount of graded copies on the census.
I would imagine it's the same problem you have with '71 Topps baseball cards and '85 Topps football cards. The black borders are so condition sensitive, they practically chip if you stare at them hard enough. The number of quality copies worth submitting are probably just plain fewer and far between. That said, I'm still astounded a cover is enough to drive the popularity of this book so high. I've been monitoring raw copies of this on eBay and it appears to sell really well even in lower grades. Admittedly, I really like this book and the fact that the story and interior artwork is rather blah, it's one of the few books that lends itself to slabbing real well as you never miss what's on the inside.

Wow. That's nice, but I take it that was a bit too racy for US consumption?

As popular as this cover has become over the years, as referenced in books and other media, I'm surprised no one has taken yet another cover swipe of the design in one of the newer Batman titles. I think it would cool to get someone else's take on it after all these years.

Another Adams Bats for the belfry.

Two new Bats from my childhood. Classic Kaluta and Wrightson covers. Picked up both for $65.
I can't get over how great looking the old label 8.5 is. There's a small crease that does not break the color on the top right. I'm sure this is what's keeping the condition from being graded higher. I can understand why now some people are scarfing up the old labels and pressing them to higher grades now. It would be so easy with this book.

Cool. I guess I won't feel as bad paying so much for that Batman 227. !

I guess I'm still ignorant, but how can CGC not consider pressing a form of restoration? Once again, I'm more familiar with the sports card collecting and practices such as this would automatically lower the specimen one grade value (if not more).

I'm not crazy about the green myself, but I do like the cover. Issue 232 was the first Batman comic that I bought since getting back into the "hobby" a couple of months ago. I really wish I hung onto the copy I had when I was 18. I'm sure it would have graded in the 9.4-9.6 range at the minimum.
Anyway, I actually became really interested in issue 227 when it was featured in the Dark Knight documentary from the movie Blu-Ray. Other than it being a cool cover, I never knew of it's significance in the collecting community.

I fully expected this to be a crappy, reading copy. I was completely floored by how great the condition was. It certainly looks better than some 9.0's in person versus this seller's scan. Not bad for $12 plus free shipping.

I just got beat out over at Heritage on a 9.6 Detective 395. I went as high as 3100, but started to get internet lag after that. The person who was on the floor bidding against me was much faster. Auction ended at over $3700. Wow.

Getting this week off to a good start
That DD was one of my favorite books in HS. I came ever so close to bidding on that one myself. If not for the fact that I have huge chunk of money ear-marked for an item over at Heritage, I would have.
By the way, I thought the final price on this book was a bargain. Congrats.
Is Batman 227 the "key" Neal Adams Batman book to have?
