  1. i just looked at the overall schedule of MCU phase five and wow, this is the only thing on that list that i want to see. blade also, i suppose, since Ali is such a good actor, though that's not coming for quite awhile. loki season two i will also see, but that's it. as a 50-something white male, the Marvels is very obviously not meant for me, nor is thundercats or whatever the heck it's called. i guess i'll watch guardians 3 even though i never finished number 2. captain america, no thanks. please let the new antman movie be better than the last thor and doctor strange ones, and please marvel, don't forget that middle aged male nerds are the reason you are here. teenage girls are unlikely to ever get on board in the way that men have over the last 15 years. you'll see when marvels comes out.
  2. we all know the market is soft right now from recession and inflation fears. but when i saw this gpa result of an asm5 5.5 selling recently for a ridiculously low price of $870, about half what it ought to be, i had to click the link. now i see why. the fading is absolutely ridiculous. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/the-amazing-spider-man-5-marvel-1963-cgc-fn-55-off-white-pages/a/122303-15029.s i saw another faded book like this also achieve a crazy low price this year, although i cannot recall the specific book. now, gpa will often break out sales where it says 'cgc case cracked' and other notes like that, separating them from the average sales of standard books so they do not 'contaminate' the overall results. how about a separate breakout for books with massive fading? seems like it would be a good move since i doubt that a book like this is a true reflection of the value of an asm5 5.5 grade, or any other badly faded book is either.
  3. thats amazingly fast shipping. i have yet to receive anything from them faster than 3-4 weeks, so i hope it's improving across the board. as for their website, it blows my mind that people make this comment. compared to comicconnect, whose site uses much newer software (i'm told), comiclink loads about ten to twenty times quicker, images are better, and the organization is easy to understand. i'll take comiclink's site any day. please do not update it! just add pics of the backs of each slab-
  4. won this one the other day from HA latest auction. i also think that the word DAREDEVIL may be the first instance of a pixellated look in comic type that i can recall seeing. i'm getting there on my 1-50 white page collection.
  5. +1 for years now i've been keeping screen shots of auction results of books that i am interested in. it's quite annoying that they won't report to gpa like almost everyone else does. especially on books you don't see that often, when one auction result can make a big difference in current value.
  6. you can't read them either if they're graded/ encapsulated, so by your logic the grade doesn't matter either. people want books with white or close to white page quality for the same reason they want an 8.0 more than a 2.5. because that's closer to what the book looked like when it was new, and the nearer one can get to that, the nicer it is to have as a collector and lover of the medium.
  7. just arrived from CC today. very happy with the presentation considering the grade-
  8. thanks for the thoughtful and knowledgable reply, much appreciated!
  9. https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/story-page/jack-kirby-and-chic-stone-journey-into-mystery-110-story-page-8-thor-original-art-marvel-1964-/a/7338-91013.s?type=lotlink--bidnotice-tracked-dailystatus how was the price (24k) of this gorgeous kirby thor page? is this in line with the market for this sort of page? this one below was 38k, probably because it has even more dynamic and awesome panels, but i would have loved to get either one. https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/story-page/jack-kirby-and-chic-stone-the-avengers-6-story-page-9-thor-original-art-marvel-1964-/a/7338-91012.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115
  10. very few people use them. comiclink also charges ten per cent and has far more bidders. i am not employed by comiclink, but i have given them tons of my money.
  11. about how much are them two awesome kirby/stone thor pages going to end at? specifically talking about the avengers 6 page and the JIM110 page. some great images of the god of thunder in both of them. i doubt i'll be playing, but i'd love to know the neighborhood that i would need to be in if i did choose to play. gracias for any guidance.
  12. for me it was when john byrne took over. the combination of his replacing the thing with she-hulk, and his insisting on inking himself instead of working with terry austin again made me completely lose interest. i know some people love the writing in his run on the book, and it may be very good, i cannot recall. but the thing was my favorite member by far. and i was more about the art than the story back then, as an aspiring artist.
  13. still undervalued, after all these years. hm... been hearing that for many years now. personally, i'd stick with marvel SA keys.
  14. this is an old cabinet card photo circa 1880s that i painted over and transformed into a white walker. at left is the before image.
  15. if you ever decide to sell or upgrade this book, please reach out to me first! great looking copy for the grade and with the hard to find WP to boot!
  16. my mailman forged my signature on the slip for a registered package several years ago and left it in my non-locking mailbox at the time. it was a 3k value package. i was on vacation and it was stolen. therefore my claim to usps was denied as they said they had my signature on the registered receipt. i was ultimately able to appeal directly to the postmaster inspector general who was able to process my claim and finally get me reimbursed, more than half a year later. i never saw that postman again either. since your case sounds much simpler, you should have a better time than i did. but if not, contact the postmaster inspector general.
  17. imho the ff1 speculation train left the station long ago. as @piper said, along with hulk1 and af15, it's already super pricey. everyone knows a movie is in the works. stick with the keys that you can get better than a 3.0 for your money. asm1, xmen1, jim83, tos39. avengers1 is a maybe. also asm2, 3 and 14 always do really well, as do all ditko key villain 1st appearance books.
  18. if you're holding for 5-10 yrs then get the best marvel early SA key you can get. i dont know if its jim83 in 5.0, tos39 in 5.0 or xmen1 in 5.0 but anything like that should do you well over that time frame. i'm less enthusiastic if its a book you can only get in 2.0 since those books are often hideous. but even those low grade keys do fine over time.
  19. this auction house uses a light room to shoot their books, not a scanner. all their books are white background like this. it's heritage. not a secret.
  20. i tend to agree that one cannot trust scans, but in this case, i do not believe this is a result of the scan. i'm well versed in photoshop, and when scans are bad, they enhance contrast, often to hide issues. aka as blowing out the scan. these images have tons of mid range detail, which never happens in bad scans in my experience. one could do this digitally if one wished. but i don't think that's the case on this book. as joey said, it looks weird, like a bunch of whitening work was likely done to the book. also i removed the image of the top of the case as it's not cgc. when scans are bad, the labels often give clues. but this label looked perfectly fine.
  21. see attached pics of a nice looking hulk 1. it's graded by someone not our cgc overlords with a regular label, and currently in an ongoing auction. i've seen a lot of hulk 1s, owned two copies myself, and i've never seen either a front or rear cover this bright. it appears to me to have been lightened through some process. i know this is a thing that some people do. i just wish to know from those who are experts on such things here @joeypost if they think this book has been lightened, and if so, if having cgc grade it might result in a conserved or restored label. i don't plan to bid on it as it will be pricey, but it has really piqued my curiosity.
  22. i LOVE cva and qes because i'm just too d u m b to be able to evaluate a book based on the cgc grade, the notes, and my own lousy eyeballs. this takes all the guesswork out of deciding if a book is a nice copy for the grade. thank you comiclink and metropolis for bringing these wonderful tools into our lives and unnecessarily boosting the sales prices of books that i want to buy.
  23. the sale price shown on CL is the accepted offer price, not a list price. but there have been a large number of big $ sales on the exchange the last 2 days, some for fishy prices, which does indeed make me question the legitimacy of all these 'sales results.' the scarcity of af15 with white pages compared to ff1 or hulk1 is a different world. very tough to find, unlike those other two.
  24. it's just you. grow up and take responsibility for your lousy packaging practices. the paper thin cardboard of a cut up usps box provides the same level of protection as printer paper. how you can have been a boardie for over a decade and not be aware of this is astonishing.
