I was wondering why all these "CGC" comics were selling for multiples of their raw counterparts so I searched google, found the main CGC page and came to the forum.
Four years later I'm still trying to figure out why CGC books sell for multiples of their raw counterparts.
My experience was very similiar to Conjob here. I had gotten most my Vertigo comics bought and was thinking about encapsulation. Checked out the site and the rest is history.
Why do you keep calling him Conjob?
it's a Constantine thing, you wouldn't understand it.
Thanks for the informative reply.
just like a friggin lawyer. someone else has to do discovery for him
Thanks for letting them know Sal. I was out getting some OTC meds to help with a nagging sinus headache. Oldguy looks almost exactly like John Constantine in Hellblazer. Drop him in a trench coat and a tie with a Guiness stain and he is right there.
A while back I took one of those "If You Were A Comic Book Character Who Would You Be?" tests someone posted a link to on the forum. Guess who I was?
Toad?
that was a hanging curveball if there's ever been one, and you let him off easy. you must be overworked or something

i came here to worship at the feet of FFB. there's a small congregation of FFB worshippers in the strip mall just down the road from me, and they kept badgering me for spare change whenever i left one of the stores. so i took home one of their booklets - a strange amalgam of "The Art of Internet Debate" and the positive aspects of comic book conservation - and became quickly hooked. plus i think i was drunk on a nice Russian River Valley Pinot Noir at the time, which as we all know just adds to the FFB effect. when i got here, i saw that there was already a sizable contingent of FFB worshippers, so i just fit right on in...
actually, I was bored at work, did a search on comics, and found this forum. from there, it was very similar to tth2's experience;
...unlike some recent newbies who seem to like to start new threads asking whatever question is at the top of their little heads at any given moment, I lurked for a few months and ran a bunch of searches to read up on what people had been saying about various issues before I finally posted.ahh...bitterness towards the n00bs...

much thanks to lighthouse aka TPBking aka GothChickDaddy for the great deal on some modern Trades. if you would just list everything at once it would really make my life a lot easier, you know
Where would the fun be in that?
But just for you... and you alone... when my 500-book Bronze prescreen comes back from CGC, I'll list everything at once. No "Don Rosa Collection, let's pick 15 random books to sell this week"...
done and done! i'll trade you some slightly-read TPBs for 'em, as i seem to have too many lying about and gathering dust and animal dander. pennies on the dollar. whatcha think?
-
belated thanks to nikos for selling me that MTU 12 at a price no one could match...even though i didn't get any freebies. thus is the price of being a cheapskate.

Your comfort is out sole concern Sal
proofreading is your friend, you know

You can't hotlink scans from GCD anymore.
What comic is this?
that sucks.

Kudos to Rocketeer for some nice looking Tec and freebies!
Kudos to Comicsupply for an accurately graded silver age Green Lantern and the fastest shipping I have ever seen.
Kudos to October for taking the chance on a 30% junk grader.
blind squirrels, nuts, and all that you know

prolly involved cutting out the along the dotted lines...that Four Color 422 is a nice one, shame about the spine rub/chipping/tearing
-
yah, you will see those coloured in diamond prices inside the starburst all over the place.
it's not as common as the regular newsstand, but it's not technically a "price variant."
whitman variant, yes, but it seems like these were quite plentiful in certain areas

Shouldn't be too hard Sal. Aquaman gets no love, whatever Age he is from.
And yet he's getting his own TV series. Might be a good time to be picking those books up.
shut! up!
yah, 'tober, you snooze and things get bought out from under you...or something. they were very accurately graded, too, with WHITE pages, the both of 'em.
yay me

just picked up a pair of VF/VF+ SA Aquamans from Sid the Bass Man hisownself at 40% off guide.
slowly building a cheapskate VF SA Aquaman set here
-
Kudos to SidBassGMan - or however that username is capitalised - for a pair of sweet, accurately graded, and excellently packed SA Aquaman books!
could not be happier, unless they had been free

Kid's got nothing on me...
I bought my first comic box when I was 10 back in '75 and had a hell of a time putting it together. (no instructions
)
And it took me 30 years to find out for sure out that the shiney side of the board goes against the comic.
I always used the shiny side of the backing board against the comic, as it made the most sense.
you and 99% of the rest of us, i'd wager

is that Stalin? at that point in the war, Russia was on our side against the Nazis.
maybe it's the leader of Hungary or Romania or one of the other Axis allies, but i doubt that it's Stalin, despite what the OPG says
-
Thanks out to herc2000 for a quick shipment "across the pond" of some nice House of Mystery books.
Nicely packed and graded!
word! double thanks to herc2000 for exactly the same thing! the Aquamans were graded tighter than 's hatband, and packaged stiffer than...than...something really stiff. i'm drawing a blank on a good analogy.
but kudos most def to herc2K

once again, Flaming_Hertfordshire comes through with some sweet BA Marvels for the kid! of course, he sent it registered mail, and i had to go send my lovely wife to sign for them since the USPS is only open when i'm at work, across town...but s'all good!
Way to go, guv'na! You're all that, and a bag of fish n' chips
-
you guys are sure that 141 is a Cardy? i mean, CGC has been known to misattribute cover artists.
it sure doesn't look like Cardy to me...
-
nochips is most definitely the man...nice Bat-books!
-
Craig Flessel, Alex (Xela) Schomburg, Lou Fine, LB Cole, and Carl Barks. not in that order. not sure what order, exactly
-
A big thanks to Sal
for our first deal ever off these boards - a throng of "Greggy-sweet" DC Whitman variants! Sent the books before I paid. I even forgot to pay for them after I had them for a day or two
...then Sal even reminded me to pay for them! What a guy!
Thanks for going out of your way on this one.
you're paying in advance next time, mister! one chance is all you get!
actually, if you're going to pay more than i asked for again next time, i might let you wait a month before sending the money!
big ups to Darth for being an all around stand up guy, once you remind him about his debts....
-
btw: Anyone here have any idea what a Warrior #1 mag would go for in VF? Or in NM- or whatever? I found a copy -- but I couldn't get an idea on price...
I'd say $10-15 give or take. I think I got mine for about $5, and would call it VF-.
Way undervalued IMO. A true quality series.
i agree...mostly because i have three or four issues
